Great place to bring kids. It's a small place but it's fun. The hatchery is located next to a church. The pond behind the church is beautiful and peaceful.

I feel like I cannot say this enough but once again another place I had no idea existed! I can't even say how many times we drove right by having no idea this place was here. Anyway this is my son's new favorite place in the world because nothing is more amazing to him then feeding fish. It's reasonable and you can drive right into the cute town of cold spring harbor so it's basically a win win. I think there was a playground at the top of the hill but next time we will have to investigate it. I see us coming back here a lot because like I said it's literally my son's favorite place right now lol.

I like to walk the grounds sometimes bc I'm too cheap to pay the 6$ admission fee. The pond behind the hatchery next to the church is a special place. Serene and quiet, perfect for a date. The fish hatchery will let you feed the fish and even catch/ bring home your own trout if you want.

Nice little place to visit in Cold Spring Harbor where you can learn about the various native fish species in New York such as trout and see where they are conserved before being released into the wild. There's also a small fishing pier which is catch and release for an extra fee. There's also a small wildlife conservatory with fish, turtles and reptiles along with a separate small aquarium. It's $6 for adults which isn't much. They also host events throughout the year so check their calendar. Recommended for a short visit.

Nice place for locals and out of towners. This fish hatchery has been here for a long long time. I saw one review from someone who must be uneducated about fish hatcheries. There are supposed to be lots of fish in a small area. And yes people do actually catch fish and eat them. Come check this place out and it's great for kids and the whole family. You can feed the fish as well if you buy the fish food from the admissions desk. $6 for adults $4 for kids and seniors.

For a $6 admission fee for adults you can explore the small grounds with trout, carp and more. (and throw em some food if you do so desire) They also have a room to check out with TURTLES, frogs, salamanders, water snakes, small and large mouth bass, catfish and more. You'll probably only spend around 45 mins here, but it was something different to do and cheap. The staff will answer any questions you have. You can also come here and fish and take home what you catch. Also, if you have a pond or lake you can buy trout to put in it. The small ones go for around $4 each and then go up to $6 a pound. You can only buy them if your pond/lake has suitable living conditions for the fish.

The baby turtles inside are the most fun.

The wounds are caused by the accidental scratch that always occurs, and the aggressive nature of the trout.

I remember being fascinated by the plumbing setup in that store. There was basically a network of plumbing under your feet. I think the new store is by appointment only and I've been there a few times. It's worth the phone call and personal attention. Call to confirm this though, I am not 100% sure. I consider myself well-versed in the hobby but that doesn't mean I don't need a hand from time-to-time and it certainly doesn't mean I know everything. Some of my coral wasn't looking so good and I just wanted someone to take a look and offer their opinion. Downs did just that. I called Downs at noon on a Friday and they were booked for the day but he still stopped by at the end of the day to help out. I figured I wouldn't see anyone for at least a few days, never mind same-day. He was concerned that if we waited to long I might lose a few pieces and he didn't want that to happen. Downs is a really good guy. Doesn't try to shove products down your throat or his methods. This hobby definitely isn't a one-size-fits-all and he understands that. While I don't think he agreed with all of my methods, he considers them and works around them. While I enjoy doing my own water-changes and maintaining my own tank, I will definitely have Downs by once a month just to look things over. One other important thing to mention and this may or may not be important to most people. With babies and kids in the house, we take our shoes off. As soon as Downs walked in, he took his shoes off before I even had to ask. Now imagine having them service your tank(s)? Drop-clothes, plastic, I am sure they are meticulous. I'll see you soon Downs, thanks again!
