This is THE place to go in the Los Angeles area. When my wife passed in 2012, I took some of the insurance money and purchased some gold and silver coins and ingots as a hedge against inflation. These were all purchased from APMEX, a very large and reputable source with a guaranteed "buy-back" offer. All purchases were made in 2012-2015. With the current record-breaking high values of gold and silver, I decided to sell my holdings. I requested a quote from APMEX and found that the value of my total purchases had increased by over 300%!! Of course, that would involve shipping and insurance on 20 pounds of precious metals, valued at $25,000. This led me to research LOCAL shops for the best deal. I spent several hours contacting 8 different dealers in Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley, and Santa Clarita Valley. ALL, except one, quoted the exact same amount for 1oz of Credit Suisse Gold (in assay). Coins Plus was the exception and was higher. Naturally, I chose them! However, grandpa had had his coins mounted in what appears to be a capsule of a thick lexan or acrylic encapsulate that the electronic meters cannot penetrate through to assess the coin composition. Because that impostor could not logically impute the possibility, he loudly and blatantly barked that no gold was reading out after barely attempting to scan , jumping to the conclusion that it wasn't a real coin at all! He was offensive in his insult implying that I must be a con , or a shyster attempting to perpetrate a criminal açt of fraud! Ì would have been utterly humiliated had anyone really been in the room . All previous visitsI noted there were 20 or more clients packed in the place--- every time! There was one, beside me. I was dignified and nicely asked if he might refer me to a similar business, he was very rude when I attempted to clarify directions and distance. I felt he had an utter disdain in dealing or helping me, obviously he'd figured I was a no good criminal who didnt deserve another minute of his time. Ì am a woman, a widow, and I'd worn a camo hunting hoodie that belonged to my beloved. I'm quite polite and also have a knowledgeable and astute collecting educ. Several encounters I had with the owner and the son been very unsatisfactory. I asked them to look into some issues with previous transactions. Got promised to resolve the issues. I had to call back to check about them and was treated like "what are you talking about ". This happened more than once. They are gonna take some time to learn the coin business. Although it's been months since I was in the store, I do want to put this out there for anyone thinking of doing business here. I did business with the prior owner, Jeff, for about 15 years after my best friend referred me to Jeff. I thought Jeff had retired and hoped I would have the same great experience with the new owner. I came in to sell some old jewelry and some coins I had purchased from Jeff. I was disappointed with my experience under the new ownership. It was a busy day in the store so the owner's son helped me at first. Then the owner came over. I found both of them to be cold and unpleasant. They were pleasant with the "regulars". The owner was frustrated/irritated because it was so busy and made me feel like I was bothering him because I wasn't making a purchase. When Jeff was the owner at this place, I considered this place to be top-notch. There is now a new owner, and in my one transaction with him, I found him to be friendly but completely dishonest. He quoted me one price for the coins that I had to sell when I first arrived, and then quoted me another, much higher price, after he had counted all the coins up. When I challenged him on this, he pointed to his computer hook up, and said that it was not functioning, so that he had no way of checking the spot values to verify what I had to say. Moreover, he wasted about an hour of my time using some sort of detector to verify that every single one of my coins were authentic. By the time I was finished with my transaction at the store, a group of approximately 20 old men had gathered in this small store and were milling around the area where I was standing. Apparently, they use this place as a gathering place, and I felt like I was at a sleazy bar. The combination of this group of people and the owner's attitude left me feeling intimidated, and I regret the decision to not just take my coins back and leave, but I felt bad for the fact that this new guy had spent so much time counting up my coins and verifying that each one of them was real. I took a few coins in to see what , if anything, I had. No intentions to sell anything. I went in and was greeted by a seemingly personable man behind the counter. Jeff was there speaking with a customer. The guy looked over my coins and gave me the disappointing news. He then thought to get a second opinion over where Jeff was now tending to his own business. Before the pleasurable man even reached Jeff, without even having looked at the coins , Jeff says "those are all damage". Cool. No biggie. So I look around for about an hour, picking up a few things to buy , it being the polite thing to do after being allowed to look around for so long. I was there an hour and Jeff never said one word to me until he saw me standing by the stuff i wanted to purchase. He then walked up, took the items and asked if I was ready to go. No smile , no kind of friendliness nothing like I had read about. I paid for my things and left, without even a thank you. Sat in my car a minute thinking " well that sucked" . I went a few days ago asking for coin grading. He never even answered me. Instead, he told me most of my coins are fake. When in reality there are not. in fact, he told me my 1872 trade dollar was fake. Seems to me he neds to do his homework considering i was just offered over $30,000.00 for it. I decided to cash in a box of random coins (some collector, some foreign) and didn't want to just walk in and tip the box on the counter. I called ahead (expecting to get blown off) and the staff was super friendly even as I expressed my ignorance of what I had. The guy was patient and encouraged me to bring them in and that he was willing to buy anything I had. A few days later I stopped in and he definitely honored his word. He made what I thought was going to be a long process very simple and quick. He quickly sorted out my coins into two piles. The "save/spend" pile of common coins and the "I'll buy" pile. I was in and out in 10 minutes with very professional service. Even as he sorted, he made small talk and answered my dumb questions. Prior to going in a did a rough estimate of the coins on Ebay so I could gauge the ballpark figure I was hoping for. Sure enough his offer was spot on.
