They have some cool looking coins, but I was here for an appraisal of my Dansco Nickel album. I had a near complete set 1938-2005 with proofs, all gem BU and many many toners and some full steps. After flipping through the pages and not even really looking at it they quickly offered $100, I decided not to tell them how dumb they were and politely declined. A few weeks later I sold it for $450 on OfferUp, and even that was a low price. They go for $600-700 online easy. These guys will try and rip you off, be careful selling to then either they dont know prices or are looking to make a buck at your expense. read more

He said his name was Maui, the receipt said Calvin. Complete jerk, he was condescending, insulting and rude. He gave some major discounts to the customer before me who spent $199 on silver, then when I was trying to get a price match of $5 off on three gold coins worth almost $6,000, he refused to price match the world's largest gold retailer, which would have only been $5 off each coin for a grand total of $15 off almost $6,000! Instead he proceeded to insult me telling me this isn't "Walmart", he then tried to in fact charge me over a dollar extra per coin, and when I confronted him because on his website the coins were $1,918.30 each, he responded by saying that he was "rounding up", but if I wanted him to he would round down, and then never did. I was about to tell him off and walk out but because I had driven over 30 minutes to get there, and because I didn't want to miss out on the price dip on gold this week, I went ahead and purchased the coins anyway spending almost $6,000. I have been a customer for over 11 years, I will never go back again. Oh I forgot to mention while I was in the parking lot the prices on his website were actually at $1,916.20, they literally went up $2 while I was in there so all I was asking for was that he matched one of the world's online largest gold retailer SD Bullion who was selling them at $1,913.00. Because "Calvin" is listed on Coin galleries' website as one of two contacts, I assume that he is a new partner in this business and or is the manager, therefore he will never get a single penny from me again because this is not a matter of some Rogue employee. My first time in here. Jess was our sales associate. I let him know that it has been awhile since I purchased coins and had some questions. He said of course. I asked a few questions. In the middle of 3 different conversations, we were interrupted by another customer, that seemed to be well known by Jess. Instead of continuing to assist me, he turned away, stopped speaking to me and proceeded to answer the questions of the other well know customer. Not once but 3 different times in about 15 minutes time! At that point I was done being ignored and literally disrespected by this man Jess! I am in customer service and this was appalling to me! Regret not being assertive when I allowed this salesman (no name identified, no name tag) to tear up my jewelry popping the stones out in front of me saying they are CZ anyways. My engagement ring was in amazing condition when it came through those doors.Prior to that he had taken my jewelry into a back room for a lengthy time (at least 20 mins.) My engagement ring had inset diamonds in band and I know it was expensive when purchased in 2002,. Other items:My Mother's Day ring had 2 Sapphire stones, a pendant with garnet, and another with Sapphires. My heart sank as he carelessly destroyed my jewelry that I am only selling because I lost my job and am in need of cash. My gut is uneasy on how this situation was handled. The price for actual weight of gold is what I was paid for that is their justification for taking stones out. I wasn't offered the stones either but I have a gut wrenching feeling that the stones were replaced while he was in the back room for so long. Hind sight , Every other place does their inspections right in front of you and in less time. I am not happy about how this was handled. I would like to know what happens in that back room that can't be done out in front of the customer since there is plenty of unused counter space. Feeling duped ! read more

He was courteous and professional and really knew his stuff, plus he had a great personality and engaged us in conversation which made us feel totally at ease and comfortable. Went to the Coin Gallery to sell some coins that had become excess to my collection. I upgraded my collection by purchasing several coins that would replace the ones I wanted to sell. I did my homework by consulting the Coin Dealer Newsletter (known in the hobby as "CDN" or the "Grey Sheet"). It is The Bible of the coin collecting world. According to the latest edition of the "Grey Sheet," interest in Morgan Silver Dollars (my type of coins) and the prices paid for them was the highest it's been in recent years. According to the CDN, action for Morgans at recent auctions and coin shows in Baltimore, Las Vegas and Long Beach was brisk and represented a renaissance in prices. Like I said, I did my homework. Took a look around the Coin Gallery while I waited for assistance. In display cases, along with a couple of 100 oz silver bars, a number of coins were "slabbed" as in graded by a professional grading service. The coins I saw were graded between AU-58 and MS-63. I also noticed these prices were pretty stiff. I presented my coins and asked if these coins would be candidates for upgrades. After examination, I was told my coins were nice (they were already graded by PCGS as ("Mint State") MS-64 and MS-65 (investment grade coins)). But, they were unlikely to be upgraded. Knowing these coins would be some of the nicest in his shop, I asked if he was interested in purchasing my coins. The counterman stepped away and went into an office. Knowing my individual coins were worth between $92 and $345 EACH (according to the "Grey Sheet"), I expected a substantial offer. Needless to say, I was shocked, almost speechless, when he offered me $110 for a coin the "Grey Sheet" says is worth $345. I tried to engage him, to negotiate. The counterman's excuse for such a low offer and his unwillingness to negotiate? "Morgans aren't selling." Tell that to the publisher at The Coin Dealer Newsletter and the coin show vendors at Baltimore, Las Vegas and Long Beach. I've bought, sold and traded coins and bullion for years. I've had dealers offer me fair prices and not-so fair prices. I've had dealers tell me they weren't interested in my coins. It's all part of the coin world. However, I've NEVER received such a low-ball offer for my goods as I received from The Coin Gallery. Not EVER. Period. Needless to say, I took my coins to another Phoenix coin shop where I received a much fairer price (over $300) for this coin, in addition to the other coins I had with me. In sum, a very bad experience. I won't be returning to the Coin Gallery -- unless I'm willing to buy at prices ABOVE retail and sell coins at prices low enough to almost qualify as giving them away. read more
