I've lived in Portland for about six years, and I can honestly say I have never been so consistently disappointed by a cafe. This is not based on one bad experience. I've probably been to Maplewood around ten times over the last few years. It's in the neighborhood, the cafe itself is cute, and the food and drinks are generally good, so I kept giving it another chance. Somehow, each visit has been more frustrating than the last. The biggest issue is the service. I have genuinely never experienced such consistent indifference from waitstaff. There's a tiny counter at the front, and the line will often stretch well into the next room. Meanwhile, three or four employees may be moving around behind the counter without acknowledging the people waiting at all. No "We'll be with you in a minute," no greeting, no indication that they've even noticed you. You just stand there watching them until someone eventually decides to take your order. It creates such an uncomfortable atmosphere. Every time I come in, I feel like I'm inconveniencing the staff simply by being a customer. And then there's the wait for the food. The food and drinks are good, but I've repeatedly waited 45 minutes to an hour for things as simple as a bowl of potatoes or a warmed-up piece of quiche. At a certain point, the quality of the food does not make up for the overall experience. Today was the final straw. Someone cut directly in front of me in line and the staff said nothing. Each person ahead of me then seemed to stand at the counter for ages before anyone helped them. When it was finally my turn, the first thing I was told was that they were "pretty much out of all food," despite the cafe not closing for another hour. When I decided to just leave, the person at the register looked genuinely delighted that I wasn't ordering and gleefully said "okay bye!" I genuinely do not understand what the deal is with this place. If this had happened once or twice, I would chalk it up to a bad day or a staffing issue. But this has been remarkably consistent over multiple years, regardless of who is working. The lack of hospitality almost feels intentional. After five years in Portland, Maplewood has unfortunately come to embody some of the things I find most frustrating about the city's restaurant scene: high prices, painfully slow service, an oddly dismissive attitude toward customers, and the sense that you should somehow feel grateful they've agreed to serve you at all. I kept coming back because I really wanted to like this place but I'm done trying lol. Pathetic.

Shopping is definitely a workout. LOL. Yes, lines get long at the cash register but it move pretty quick. Staff is friendly and will assist with any issues. For drinks, they had couple of self ordering kiosks. I ordered the sea salt strawberry green tea. Took them 5-6minutes to hand out the drink. It had a really good drink. I could taste the salt that mixed well with the citrusy flavor of the strawberry. I finished the drink by the time we walked out of the store.
