I had heard about The Halal Guys for years but somehow never had the privilege of trying it, mostly because this cart is usually packed. We walked straight up and, to our surprise, it was fairly empty-- clearly our lucky night. We ordered the chicken sandwich with everything and the beef platter with yellow rice, and OMG... it was incredible! These guys are clearly commanding the halal food scene, and after finally trying it, I completely understand the hype. The food was flavorful, satisfying, and exactly what we needed at that moment. There's something about eating a great late-night meal straight from NYC food cart that just hits differently. I will say, my sandwich was VERY spicy. And i love spicy food, but this was another level haha... My entire mouth was on fire. The funny part? I literally could not stop eating it. It was that good. Sometimes the simplest food, at exactly the right time, becomes the most memorable. This was definitely one of those moments. Now I get the hype!

Also, when I say options I am not referring to Chipotle or Taco Bell as that would be sacrilege. I don't know at those companies did their research about expanding into the neighborhood but they didn't do good job. I'm referring to the handful of other taco trucks in the neighborhood that put Taco Bell and Chipotle to shame. According to Yelp, I'm the Duke of this establishment and as the Duke I usually order a burrito, whether it be steak, carnitas, chorizo or the chicken. You can't go wrong with any of the options. It's a good amount of food for $10. I haven't really tried the other items on the menu but I've been told the vegetarian quesadilla is good too. There's no space to sit as it is a taco truck but there is an area to stand and eat. The service is usually pretty quick.

The Lexington one I believe. Anyways... I ordered the absolute most exquisite dish that can come in a styrofoam container. When i say that this dish brought tears to my eyes I mean it. I sat on the 6 train devouring this meal while I knew all the people next to me were looking at me like I'm a savage. This meal had spicy rice but on top of the spicy rice on the left side was lamb that was cooked with so much love. Now I looked to the middle of my styrofoam takeout container and I had salad with tomatoes sitting there so beautifully. Finally I looked to the right of my container I had shrimp that tasted like the best shrimp I ever had besides when I went to Cuban petes with my girlfriend a few months back but that's a different story. This meal was topped with such savory white sauce along with a very tasty hot sauce all for the amazing price of $10. And guess what my guy threw in a soda to go with it. A cold Hawaiian Punch for these really hot summer days we are having.

I got everything with my son to go. The steamed jhol momos were the best for reheating add a bit of water so they do not dry out. The fried mono I learned should be consumed right when you buy them to fully enjoy them. The flavor was good but they were less crunchy and dried out when reheated. The gravy chicken over rice taste like halal chicken over rice without the white sauce. Pro tip: for fried momos you need to eat them when you buy them otherwise they will dry out or be limp when you reheat them. The best for reheating are the steamed momos.
