So I Googled and found this place. My wife ordered the Trio of Cheeses to start and a Tiramisu to finish. All of which was good. I got Betty's IPA, made by Betty, lol. Again, all of it was good. Met some friendly "neighbors" from Modesto, CA, USA. Hung out for a while over beers. Ambiance - Small local business. Cool decor. Indoor and outdoor seating. A clean shared outhouse for the toilet. Service - 5 stars, welcoming and inviting. The bartender and waitress were very relaxed. Price - 22 Euros, $26 USD; reasonable for a nice break and everything we got. Everyone left happy. To be able to fully appreciate this place, I had to stop thinking in terms of real New York bagels…read more I just think of it as a French sandwich place that happens to serve frozen H&H bagels (toasted, duh). The owner is extremely pleasant and friendly and I'm pretty sure he recognizes me by now. I usually get a sandwich to go because the place is so tiny and you can always eat by the fountain on Place du Marechal Lyautey or on the quais du Rhone. So Americans and Anglophiles beware - this place doesn't even know the meaning of cream cheese, but you know what? I kind of like that. It's better than the other so-called bagel shops in Lyon that serve horrendous Philadelphia cream cheese. This one makes bagels "a la francaise" = with chevre cheese, or mozzarella, or different kinds of ham and tomatoes confit (I'm kind of laughing just thinking about it).

Their coffee is delicious because it's Mokxa, which is arguably the best coffee in France. Five stars for the coffee here. Now for the story of today's lunch. My friend and I met here for lunch because they open at 11:30 and I have a one-year-old who naps around 1:00 pm, so I was hoping for an earlier-than-most-cafes lunch. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The lady behind the counter seemed a little annoyed that we arrived at 11:30 and even more so that we were there for lunch. She sat us but informed us that the kitchen did not open until noon. We sat and waited. (No high chairs, of course, and the little one started to get antsy halfway through the meal. Thankfully I had a pouch of applesauce for her.) The daily vegetarian lunch option was ravioli with pumpkin and preserved shallots. My friend and I both enjoyed it, as well as the salad that came with it: fennel & orange. Simple and delicious. We each had dessert: I chose the tiramisu and my friend had the pineapple with cream and spices. He liked his a lot; the tiramisu was mostly cream and, therefore, slightly disappointing. Overall, because of the quality of the food and the coffee, I'm giving this place four stars. Some of the servers are very friendly and some of them aren't. I think 14,50€ for their lunch plate with a salad plus dessert is a pretty good deal for Lyon. (And it was filling.) Also you can buy bags of Mokxa coffee here, which is a treat because it means I don't have to go all the way to the 1st arrondisemment to get it!

My only regret is not bringing my lover or close friend to enjoy their brunch special of a savory dish, a sweet, juice, and coffee for €24. But I'm probably not.) Anywho, I stopped here the other day after an exhausting afternoon of shopping. The guy behind the counter was very helpful and could even explain things a bit in English (which was great because I have no idea what an "Everything" bagel is called in French and I wasn't leaving the stand without one.) I ordered this bagel with only cream cheese on it because, again, that's the most common way to eat bagels in the states and that's what I wanted. I had to assure the poor dude three times that yes, I only wanted cream cheese on it and nothing else. Hilarious! I guess that's not something people do in France? The bagel was okay but it was too bready, just like at Kaffee Berlin. Maybe I should open a bagel shop because I'm absolutely sure everyone here would like bagels the way we make them back home - dense, chewy, and eggy. The bagel was warm and there was delicious cream cheese on it so all-in-all I'd say it was an okay experience. Oh, and did I mention it only cost 1,50€? Cheaper than a sandwich and just as filling! I might go there again one day if I'm really, really hungry.
