I really don't understand the bad reviews, because I had a great time here. The security was extremely thorough and friendly. Bartenders were welcoming and efficient, plenty of space to dance and move around, and the bathrooms were clean. The sound system is great too. Coda is a toronto fixture for house music and is fairly casual too. The location is on Bathurst just north of Bloor St. on the west side. You can see the lineup outside as security checks you out before you go in. I went one night to see my local celebrity DJ, KTA play a show the night before she attended the Junos with her nomination. It made for a party-like atmosphere with plenty of cheering etc. I didn't know about Coda before going, just bought the ticket online and showed up in shorts and a t-shirt and flip flops without checking for a dress code and luckily looks like there isn't one, whew! The guy in front of me had a backpack and he was getting hassled for that by security as they started getting louder and louder if he wasn't listening and doing that they said. They could have been nicer, but really? bringing a backpack into a club seems like a silly thing to do. It's down into the basement and has decent lighting effects and the sound is dope! The crowd was into dancing and taking selfies too, quite a fun night. I would go again! read more

Room for improvement: girl collecting cover says they take credit at the bar (really?) but they in fact don't. Would've pulled more from the ATM had I not been misinformed. So bad experience, on Instagram, thier posts say door opens at 9:30, people start line up at 9:00,the line was like 100 people, but no one gets into it until 12:00, unless you have a table booked for 400 bucks, just a table, drinks and others services are exclusive. So , They are just pretending it's very busy and trying to make you pay much more. I don't recommend visiting at all very disappointed. read more

The customer service and how nice the people that go to Coda continues to blow my mind every time. Every club should strive to have this type of service. 1) The staff spotted a guy talking to me who had gotten a little too close and I pushed him away a couple of times. Poor guy took too much M... lol. His friend did take him away from me, but within moments, I was asked if I knew him, and when I said no, they went up to him and escorted him out. 2) I forgot to pay for parking and after being there for an hour and a half and realizing I asked if I could leave and come back. They said no at first because they don't allow re-admissions, but after I said "please, I'm gonna get a huge ticket" they let me go. As I'm running to my car, I hear some change fall out of my wristlet. I go pay for parking, come back, and the guy that was standing near the club hands me a tooney that I had lost. His friend was like, "he was looking for that the whole time you were gone." The staff notice me coming back, allow me to bypass the line really quickly, before I even ask. 3) The people that go there actually talk to you, without hitting on you, without ulterior motives, just super friendly, nice people. I had a wristband for VIP and when I tried to get into the VIP section the bouncer wouldn't let me in, he told me to come back in 10 minutes. I was waiting there for maybe a minute or two and someone else went to go in and he let them, while the door was open I tried to go in too and he slammed it on me. He told me oh I just said to come back later because it's busy when he finally let me in. As soon as I got in someone who said he worked there (manager, I think) told me he didn't like my vibe because I wasn't dancing and asked who gave me my wristband. I left and was there for maybe less than 10 minutes total. I've never been treated so bad by staff at a club before, ever. read more

I was assaulted here last weekend and am still recovering from a concussion. Two security staff dragged me from the dancefloor into a room out of sight from other patrons and bartenders. Once they took me there one guy slammed me to the concrete floor head first. Then a guy pinned me down in a choke hold while three others shared my head as a punching bag. This is a cool place for techno, tech house, house, etc Pros: -they get awesome "underground" DJs visiting -music system is excellent. One of the best places I've been to music wise -it's fairly big, so can hold a large amount of people comfortably. Dance floor is pretty huge too -lots of places to sit without having to get a table -clean fairly big restrooms. Never had to line up Cons: -the crowd. Lots of roid guys in tank tops. Also I like that you can dress casual at these establishments, but some people really pushed the boundaries here (quite a few people in shorts, yoga pants, other gym gear etc). Also note that the crowd is really young (I'd say most are in the 19-21 range).. this could be a pro or con depending on your age. Also warning that a fairly large % of the people are smacked out (it'd be similar to what you'd expect at a rave) Anyways, I'm really happy that Toronto has places like this. read more

For some reason, my review disappeared from Google, so I'm leaving a review here. Honestly, I had a great time here until around 3:30 AM. Around this time, a lot of people left and that's when problems started arising. Some guy touched my butt and another guy tried to grab me. It was weird that the guy tried to grab me because I was in front of one of the sitting areas and next to my boyfriend and my friend was there as well. I feel that security needs to pay more attention past 3:30 AM. I feel like women should be able to stay past this time and feel safe. Just wanted to put this out there for women who are thinking of staying during late hours. Here, I've seen and heard names like Josh Wink, Ricardo Villalobos, Adriatique, Sasha, Solomun, Ida Engberg, Adam Beyer, Art Department, Ten Walls and many, many more. The crowd is mature for its age and the vibe is amazing. The electric music culture runs as deep as the owners themselves, one of which plays himself. The staff is very friendly from the security to the bartenders - they treat you like a customer and a human being. If you love electronic music - you should visit CODA. read more

I was violently assaulted by security staff and held in a corner away from anyone I knew and from view of any patron. I'm now nursing all my injuries... NEVER go to this club unless your into violence abuse and a horrible time. I'm a 5'3 female, not a very large person... I had a bouncer that was at least 6 feet holding me off the floor my my throat. This venue needs to asses who they employ and put the staff through rigorous training so they can learn basic human interaction skills and maybe a little bit of customer service training. This club is disgustingly dirty as well, every surface I touched was sticky and disgusting. Not REALLY a fan of Coda, but it's only because I don't particularly enjoy house music. I'm an idiot, I didn't check beforehand what kind of music they played, so that's on me. Other than the DJ, I thought Coda was a very... well mannered club? The bouncers were all so friendly! Whenever we needed help they would come and accompany us if needed. The bar was also very spacious and not crowded- unfortunately some of the mixologists didn't know how to make the drinks I wanted, so I'd have to show them the recipe. The age at Coda was older than I anticipated. I saw a handful of older couples dancing to the beat, and it's definitely not crowded in here. There are even tables and chairs for you to sit down at when you got tired. The lights weren't as flashy as other clubs, and I thought the music could be louder. It's a very spacious area, and coat check costs $3, which isn't too bad! I probably wouldn't come back, though. read more

When we heard one of our new favourite artists was going to play at Coda, we jumped on the chance to get tickets. The show ended up being sold out in a matter of hours. When we arrived, I was worried. The line up was massive! We asked the bouncers if there was a line for ticket holders and they kindly told us it was the empty line behind the big one. We walked right in. ID, security, ticket taking, coat check, all took a matter of seconds. The first thing I noticed was that everyone knew everyone in this club! All I saw was people running up to other people, high fives, smiling faces, hugs. I could already tell this place had a great community and a great vibe. I also noticed that you could dance ANYWHERE. If there is a cushioned box to sit on, you can dance on it. If there is open space by the bar, you dance there. If there is a bottle service booth near you, you can dance there too. Security is not uptight about keeping the booths separate from the regular crowd. With a sold out show, I was worried that the space would soon be limited. It was about 12:30 and I asked a girl beside me what to expect. She said "This is it!" I had so much room to dance! Coda does not cram people into their club like sardines. Thank goodness. In addition to this, the people who attend this club have respect for personal space. As a side note, the bathrooms were consistently clean with lots of stalls which is a big plus. So here I am, having the best night in a LONG time, its getting kind of late, we are getting tired, and maybe a bit hungry. But what is this? A fruit kebob is put in front of my face. Yes, that's right. Coda was providing fruit to its concert goers to ensure everyone was nourished in the wee hours of the night. The bowl is simply passed around from person to person. At the end of the night I was pleasantly surprised to see that security was controlling the coat check line and maintained order so it didn't become a mob. I think what really makes Coda so fantastic is the fact that security is so on point. All in all, the music is amazing (tech house, techno, deep house), the sound is the best in the city, the people exude some wicked vibes, and the staff are attentive. I will be coming back to Coda the first chance I get. Leave the bangers and the kandi at home, Coda is electronic music without the nonsense. read more

I'm surprised no one has said anything about Coda's sound system... Gives you that unadulterated good shiz... Hits you right in the feels. One of the city's best, without a doubt. Otherwise, the venue itself is clean and nicely laid out, they bring in some great local and international talent, and there is actually room to dance! The fans stay blowin' to keep us dancers cooled off. Not to mention... What a pleasant surprise to go to a club and not be treated like a piece of garbage! Love this club. Had reservations about going, wasn't sure what to expect but my expectations were way exceeded! MACEOPLEX best DJ on the planet, have waited years to see him as he's usually in Europe or South America. Sound system is killer. High quality but not deafening..great vibe, everyone's there to groove on the music, no hustlers LOL. Centre of dance floor gets hot - could use more fan action but on the periphery u can chill on a couch or bar stool. Great way to end my clubbing drought of decades! Went with my 2 sons in their 20's - we all had an amazing night. We had purchased tickets in advance and outside there was a line up but the club staff went down the line to ask who had printed tickets, and pulled us right out of the line and into the club! The chicken fingers from the bar are fucking delish too, omfgggg, I'd totally come here on a night it's free cover just to eat those babies. They have a no tolerance policy for any kind of lights or LEDs, which is a huge bummer. I get what the owner's trying to do by not allowing any of those lights in here, but cmon, I've seen some people being told to put their lights away when it's something small and barely a disturbance. CODA is an amazing place. It is the old Footwork (Brant and Adelaide) moving to a bigger location. In order for me to give this place a fair review - I need to get people to understand how the old Footwork used to be and what it represented to the electronic music lover. I have been a long time participant in the Montreal electronic scene and eventually moved to Toronto in 2007. The Guvernment was too big for me and always attracted a bad crowd, mixed in with horrible staff and security (read the horror stories online if you will) - so wanted to find a place that would cater to pure electronic music lovers who were past the age of just getting silly drunk and hitting on women in the club. My friend introduced me to Footwork in 2008 and was blown away. The place was cozy and always played really good quality electronic music. They never appealed to the big masses with big name DJs - but rather more niche but excellent techno/house DJs (definetely NO Guetta, Armin, Tiesto or the likes). The staff was ALWAYS friendly, from the security (who always addressed me by SIR and treated me with utmost respect, even when I got kicked out for being too drunk - "SIR, I would have to ask you to leave as you are too inebriated"), the friendly coat check guy (he used to allow ppl to take their coat out in Canadian winter when going for a smoke) to the bartender who never overcharged. The crowd was fantastic - the place was rarely packed to the point you couldn't walk anymore - and it instilled a friendly community type of feel - where people bonded, were friends, didn't push around and respected the concept of personal space - to the point that some ppl used to apologize for you stepping on their shoes ("sorry to be in your way"). The DJs seemed to relish this, as they were always putting up an incredible show. This place carried me for years and LOVED it... until it shut down in 2014 to find a bigger location. It eventually moved to 794 Bathurst - the old Annex Wreckroom - and renamed CODA. I went there for the first time almost afraid that they might have destroyed that amazing vibe that Footwork had. Been there 5 times already. The feeling is still overall the same. Friendly bouncers and coat check, albeit not AS friendly (no more get your coat for a smoke) and bouncers a bit tougher (kicking ppl out for burning on the dance floor - unheard of at Footwork), but still friendly and professional. Much bigger dance floor with a large bar area - felt at ease and immersed right away. The crowd is relatively the same - friendly people, more mature that are there for the music and not for fighting or hitting on chicks. The first few times there were a lot of wannabees (being a new place they thought it was your regular commercial dance club) but eventually they were weeded out once they discovered what this was about. In conclusion - just went to CODA for the 5th time since moving from Footwork and now I can say with certainty - most of the old Footwork feel has come with them - staff still friendly, excellent vibe, great DJs and an awesome crowd, ensuring that I never left home without making some friends. But somehow the bigger location, the larger crowd has slowly pushed CODA to let go of some of the coziness that Footwork had, an obvious effect of the size. Do I still love it? YES, absolutely, and this is still my place to be for great music. But I will always remember my amazing nights at Footwork... read more

I tried this once late night cover was 20. Packed a lot of shirtless dudes people rolling as usual at after hours. However something about the height of the ceilings and the amount of people had me feeling a lil claustrophobic. The music was dronish and I didn't feel enough build ups and drops. Maybe I'm spoiled but I like well cooled huge lofty like over 50 ft ceilings or open night sky with my house and techno. This is the place to dance, get your party on, and get lost in the beats. For $10 cover (Fri), ~$7 shots & drinks, I had the time of my life. Last time I partied this hard was a year ago on Bourbon Street. NYC clubs are so expensive and pretentious. Not here. Everybody was here to dance and have a great time. All dressed casual, no high heel-mini skirt-dress to impress types. Mostly hipsters that just wanna get down. Nobody bothers nobody. A tip from a previous yelper and she wasn't kidding. And the DJs are incredible, some even spins in Ibiza. Sound system is off the hook. Lined up at 11:45pm and got right in. Coat check ($3, I think) girls were very professional and so were the bar tenders. Saw a man with a small flash light in his mouth bussing and clearing the floor all night. They turned on the fans around 1:30am and party started pumpin around 2:30 with more kids comin in thru the door. Plenty of room to dance, two front & back bars, STOOLS and couches to sit on for free if your legs get tired. Clean bathroom with lots of stalls. No waiting. Small outside area for smokers are down the stairway by the coat check. You wanna let loose to the beats, this is your spot. read more

Went here a few months ago, One of the best dance clubs I have been to! No cover for ladies, and the live DJs absolutely kill it! I could dance all night, they know how to read crowds, and don't play typical "top 40" music which is very refreshing. 7$ shots when we went to, which I believe was in a Friday!
