What a hidden gem!! I just started working in the area and can't believe more people aren't talking about this place. There are so many hole in the walls in the area that are under the radar but I am all for it! This is a fish market, so yes it smells like fish. You get over it pretty quick being that it's in a warehouse district with delicious food and you're most likely there during your lunch hour for a quick bite instead of a romantic dinner. I ordered one of the lunch specials which was paella and really expected a small portion for the price ($10.99), but not at all! The table also comes with limes, bread, and salsa. Larry S. and I got sucked into the black hole of Hialeah where the streets have two names and the space-time continuum reaches the inflection point where the GPS fails. When this unfortunate event happens (rarely, fortunately), it's usually met with frustration and wasted time. Yesterday, however, it resulted in us finding Cod Seafood! Don't let Hialeah's sketchy zoning turn you off. Yes, it's a seafood restaurant next to train tracks and industrial warehouses, but thanks to the same magic that warps Miami's usually reliable street grid system, the fumes from the nearby paint factory give Cod Seafood a wide berth. Note - we also found the location of all of the socks that go missing in the dryer. They're here in Hialeah, being darned by Jimmy Hoffa. The restaurant is clean and well-maintained with a basic interior decor. They have a fish market where I believe you can purchase fish and have them prepare it for you right there, or you can take it home. No fishy smell inside at all! They also have a great menu with lots of different options, including reasonably priced breakfast specialties. We ordered fried calamari, a bacalao croquette, oysters and ceviche. The food was ready quickly and was absolutely fresh and delicious! The standout for me was the calamari; crisp and not at all greasy. The ceviche was a perfect acidic palate cleanser garnished with plenty of cilantro. Due to language barriers, we didn't realize the oysters would come in a cocktail sauce, but Larry reported that the raw bivalves were deliciously fresh and tender (I did not partake. Raw oysters = eww! Not to mention that they function as the waterway's liver, filtering out all the garbage with which we defile our waters. But I digress...). The bacalao fritter was approximately 95% fish with very little filler. The service was fast and friendly, although please note that no one working there speaks much English. Even if you have zero command of Spanish (which, let's be honest, if that's the case, you'd be nowhere near Hialeah; the gravitational force field surrounding the city would sense that and repel you immediately), you can still point at what you want and the server is going to make every effort to ensure you get it. Oh, and for all that fresh and delicious fish, the total came to $30. The ceviche alone would have been $30 in Wynwood or South Beach. I have never been so happy to get lost in Hialeah! read more

Server brings water with lime wedges, bread and a salsa which was very good. Ordered fillet of grouper grilled with onions, plantains and white rice with red beans. $ 14.99 The reds were a nice change from the normal black. One of my go to fish markets that is also a restaurant. It is truly a hidden gem in the inner-city. I usually come here during lunch because it is quick and tasty. They have great lunch specials. If you don't want a lunch special, you can pick out your fish and have them cook it for you right there! The lunch portions are filling. I am like a bottomless pit sometimes and this place filled me up. I've never bought fresh fish from here so I can't comment on that service. The waiting staff was super nice and helped my coworkers and I the first time we went. After that we really didn't need their help and once they got to know us they already knew what we wanted. They had fresh raw kingfish, shrimp, snapper and other seafood in a clear refrigerated display case to buy and cook for yourself, as well as a whole menu of made to order food. I ordered a seafood Mecca of calamari, shrimp, lobster and mussels in a garlic butter scampi. Honestly the best part of my experience was Ruben. We came here twice because of him! His staff was also so helpful and patient because we literally took 5 mins to order and never once did they rush us. I really appreciated that. What a pleasant find for a Sunday Lunch. Where the food and service are both on point. Arrived a little after 12pm and a few other customers were already seated enjoying their starters. We ordered a Pitcher of fresh squeezed limonade (my favorite thing to drink) and the Cod and Fish fitters. This is only issue, they still were cold in the middle. I didn't send them back nor did I complained. My wife still ate them and truth be told, the waitress was so nice and I didn't feel like killing the good energy vibe she was giving off. Next up was the fried grouper dinner for the wife and the grilled Covina for me, both of us had the red beans and white rice. Both were exceptional delicious. I also ordered a Minuta (fish sandwich) it was one of the best I've ever had. They are competing with my all time favorite spot the Bahamas Fish Market so this is a big compliment to them. Lastly the Flan... very good as well, but my wife and I both like our sugar syrup (caramel) burnt a little more on the top, it's make a better tasting flan in our opinion. Nonetheless this is a Spanish speaking place primerly so you might have difficulty if you only speak English. We ordered the special shrimp al ajillo and it was not good it just had a bad taste to them and the Shrimp was hard. My father ordered this I would've returned them. After passing this place time and time again we decided to try it for lunch yesterday. After viewing the menu I was hesitant being that for their fish sandwich you have a choice of tilapia, swai, or snapper. We ordered the snapper but as I suspected that is not what we got. The fish was not fried like other restaurants but was wet and seemed not cooked through and was not snapper and still had skin on it. The croquettas we ordered (lobster and fish) were excellent, they put down a wonderful homemade salsa of tomatoes, fresh cilantro and red onion with the bread, the sandwich was dressed nicely, and a wonderful cafe cubano afterword, but with all its good points nothing could make up for the bad fish. To make matters worse we both got sick afterward. I would never ever return after this bad experience. read more
