Price was very reasonable. Fish was huge compared to what I get in the US - two pieces of fried fish or three if getting a larger portion. But, no tartar sauce. Not sure if tartar sauce does not come with fish and chips in the UK. Honestly, fish and chips both taste was okay. I would not crave for this in the foreseeable future for sure. Not sure if I could ask for Diet Pepsi refill. But was thankful for a place to dine in for hot food on Boxing Day.

This place was very good indeed…read more It's my first ever to this chain - I wouldn't be a fan of its chairman as I find his political views and support for Brexit emetic but, setting that aside, I was curious about the fish & chips I saw advertised here at about a tenner, with a pint of blonde beer, leffe in the price. Leffe has been around 783 years. I resisted a comment to the charming and wonderful young staff on the irony of this guy's pub selling this beer, as it's owned by InBev Belgium, which is the European operating arm of the global mega giant Anheuser-Busch. I imagine the staff couldn't much care anyway. I do admit I thought I was going to be served rubbish fish here but it was bloody good, a generous portion of fresh cod, light, crunchy batter and very tasty. I was served up a very good deal indeed. Sadly the supporting cast - the chips and peas were just so so. Likewise, my wife who opted for a burger meal rated the burger and the rosé wine. I couldn't face a second pint of leffe as I'd likely be swaying, so I tried a pint of Doom which I think was under £2. It was pleasant and after two drinks each it was time to call it a night. So the only other bit to report is that its card only, they don't want real money. I couldn't see a means to give a tip. We noted that cashless was quite common around southern England something else I'm not a fan of. I can't see us returning to a 'Spoons' any time at all let alone soon.
