I was on vacation is Kuai on the first week of December. i was researching what is going on in…read moreisland and this event popped up on the calendar on google. I figure it would be fun to come check it out and see what they had to offer. Parking We came here around 5 ish since i think this event starts at 6pm. It was hard to find parking since there was only one giant parking lot nearby which is some sort of church or community center, not too sure. Since the lot was full we had to go on the side streets and look for parking. They had parking on the streets in front of the homes, but that was all filled too. I had made a few circles and luckily i found parking at a nearby church. It was a 5 min short walk to the parade. Event The parade started on time. They had different organization, fire dept, police dept, and different floats going on. The floats were ok, nothing like wow, but it was cool. A lot of people participated the walk and it was great to see the community come together as a whole for this show. Art show They had an art show going on at the same time when the parade was going on. They had various vendors selling all handmade crafts. Lots of jewelry, bags, ornaments, and clothing for sale. This is perfect for people who want to shop for one of a kind or unique items. Most items were expensive but it is worth it. Food They had a couple food trucks there. one of the food trucks was a coffee and tea truck, so if was perfect if you need some caffeine. They also had a fundraiser booth for a high school or college going on, who was making food and selling them too. We had early dinner so we didn't get any snacky. Prices were average to be $10 and up. A lot of the items were sold out within the first hour, so if your looking for something yummy, come here first then go to the parade. Overall it was a fun local event which maybe happens once a year in december. If you love food, art, and a free parade then its your kind of event. Yes there are lots of people with limited parking spot so arrive early for less stress. Thanks for reading and Mahalo for reading.

All we expected! Note: going early to spend extra time in…read morethe gardens isn't really an option. They open at 4:30. They take your picture on the way in ($30, ready at the show if you want to purchase it), then we boarded the tram. The guide shares about the plants, views, some history, and points out many things along the ride. We were free to roam the gardens until the imu ceremony. Many beautiful plants, trees, picturesque spots. I can see why weddings happen here! I found a beautiful spent flower on the ground I was curious about and took it to one of the aunties. She didn't know, but immediately brought me to another family member who identified it right away. So helpful! You can claim your dinner spot if you'd like (groups are reserved, otherwise it's open) while everyone's exploringthe grounds. When it's time to open the imu, the host explains the culture and history in an engaging way, then it's time to eat! They have a good system for sending tables up to eat so nobody's rushing. Mai tais (open bar included) were smooth and delicious! Food was excellent, all you can eat. Plenty of time to eat, enjoy company, listen to the music (wasn't too loud--yay!) while talking, and then we headed to the show. The seats were padded stadium seats, and rather comfortable. The show lasted about 50 minutes. Professional and nicely done. We both loved our entire time there. We'd been told this is the one to go to, but we searched Yelp anyway. It was clear from the reviews it was a good fit for us and we were not disappointed. Spendy, yes, but for dinner and a show (and the tour through the gardens), it's not that bad. We were very pleased.

Mixed bag here. I thought the food was good, not great. Just good. The desserts were just ok…read more But I thought the show was excellent. This is my first lu'au even though I live in Hawaii. I was impressed. I thought the performers were awesome, especially the fire dancers. Just really awesome and the dancers were enthusiastic which made for a better performance. I thought the audio was a bit off. The volume was crazy loud to fill the huge tent but it was hard to hear the individual voices of the narrators. So maybe something to boost the midrange a bit in the balance of the sound system or whatever. I'm not a sound engineer. So if you're visiting Kauai and are looking for a lu'au, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kalamaku. I think you'll have a good time.

This was the first luau I've attended in a long, long time…read more This was one of if not the priciest luau that we found when we were shopping around for one. I feel like if this is your first luau, it's worth the price, but I would not pay the same amount to attend a second time. They have a pretty good variety, and number of vendors stationed in their outdoor area. The items sold range from sweets, to jewelry, to little knick-knacks. It's a pretty good selection of things for people looking to buy gifts to bring back home. The ambiance is very lively and enjoyable however at times it felt a little too lively since there were a good amount of kids running around. It would've been fantastic if there existed the option to attend a child-free luau. How enjoyable the event is would also depend on where people are seated. People on the outskirts of the stage would have a harder time being able to listen and watch the show, while people closer to the stage would have an amazing time. My party got to have both experiences since we were initially seated on the outskirts and were brought closer to the center. It really upgraded the experience. The food was pretty hit or miss. Some of it was pretty good, specially for the catering style service, while other dishes were less than average. The drink options weren't the best. If you've a sweet tooth the open bar would be fantastic, though, as all their options were definitely on the sweet side. It would be nice to be able to opt out of the open bar, or have more options for those that want less sugar with their alcohol. Between all the good and the bad, I think this totals out to a very average luau experience. 3/5

Juggling all the different pieces was difficult for me from afar, and Kaia was able to streamline and simplify, ask questions to clarify, and was clearly very strong at coordinating a lot of moving pieces. We wired a slack guitarist, Paul, who was so sweet and totally knowledgeable around the history of music on the islands which my husband and guests loved. While he claimed to be back ground music which could be totally fine for another party, we so enjoyed giving him our attention as it was just so pleasant while we enjoyed our cocktails and settled into the groove of the night (We hired White Ginger for catering, also recommended!) The one fire dancer, 2 drummers and 2 dancers performances went off without a glitch, and the performers were gratefully adaptable to the space, as the rain and winds were a bit tough, so they had to move creatively within the space, which they did, with grandeur and integrity. I was so pleased, and have every reason to put my fingers together for another manifestation for friends and family! We were an intimate group of 6 adults and 1 fire dancing loving child, and it was all just right (even if we wished others were lucky enough to be in attendance - they would have been a great combo for a 20 person or more party easily!)
