Coconut Scuba - If you are a first time scuba diver, uncertified as myself, and looking for an unreal and unique experience - this is perfect! My friend and I bought a discovery tour that included : - 1 lesson in the pool - 1 dive at the museum (Isla Mujeres) - 1 dive at the coral reef (Isla Mujeres) - boat ride (to the spots, but still nice) The instructors are so incredibly patient and kind! Personally, I had Manuel and Ulysses and they were personable, thoughtful, funny, and easy to understand. My friend and I felt extremely lucky to have such guidance in a first time experience! The layout of the day definitely took longer than we thought. The day started at 10, but they needed to drive us down to the new location. After our lesson, we actually waited an hour for a the certified divers to arrive so that we could all leave on the boat together. That did not bother myself and my friend, we just took a nap in the sun! But for anyone trying to have set plans afterwards, be mindful that you won't arrive back to port until 5:30/6pm. My friend and I were STARVING afterwards, having eaten light to help with nausea that can come with diving. I would recommend bringing a snack for AFTER your final dive, but eat fruit or granola and yogurt beforehand. The museum was actually prettier than I thought! I had believed that the museum was somewhat of a waste, but it was beautiful due to the wildlife that has taken root among the statues. I had never scuba dove, but had snorkeled and done snuba. If you have done these activities - you will feel right at home ! My friend had done none of these and caught on super quickly as well! The reef was spectacular. We saw many bright fish including the parrotfish! Yellow, blue, reds and orange, and even a small pufferfish. We saw a turtle once we got back onto the boat - timing is everything! If you are mindful of all the different coral and types of underwater sea life you can truly appreciate the dive regardless. You enter a new world and the time flies by as you soar over the reef. My friend made a comment that isn't as saturated with color, and I do think that is a good point. Don't expect neon edited colors, although some purple's did pop, as this is a natural place! Overall, I'd return to dive with coconut divers, and would recommend them to a friend. read more

I did my Advanced Open Water PADI with Coconut Divers and it was the best experience. Gonzalo is an excellent teacher who was very thorough and you can tell how much he loves and respects diving by how he cares about his students and their training. I felt so comfortable and really came out of the course a better diver because of him! The rest of the crew was just as amazing and caring. Ulysses is a very skilled master who helped everyone really enjoy themselves. I was able to watch him with beginners doing a discovery during my cert dives and he was kind, patient, and helped them have the best time! My brother and sister in law also did their advanced cert with him and they had nothing but great things to say. Ricardo was a great captain and Poncho took incredible photos underwater for us! We saw so many amazing things and creatures during each dive (wreck, reefs, and underwater museum) and our favorite was the night dive! We saw a ton of rays at the wreck, spotted a shark, barracuda, eels, octopus, and many turtles, lobsters and crabs during the night dive. We had the best adventures even when the waters were a bit choppy because of the winds, we always felt very safe. They were so flexible and willing to take us out because we almost couldn't go due to the harbor closing because of high winds. They communicated constantly with us and when they found out the good news it would open, just later that day, they offered and we jumped at the opportunity to do the dives we planned! We stayed at the Riu Palace Peninsula and it was literally a couple minute walk across the street. We'll never forget our experiences with the crew and will definitely be back for more when come back to Cancun! Highly recommend for all levels and ages. read more

My wife and I got our Advanced Open Water PADI certs with Coconut Divers in Oct 2023 and had a great time. Came back in in May with my sister to get hers completed and experience was even better. Gonzalo and Ulysses are great instructors and dive masters. Ricardo was a great captain and navigated us through choppy waters and Poncho is a great underwater photographer, amazing shots at night. Coconut divers didn't show up to our tour. We were at the meeting spot and waited 30 mins before leaving because they never showed up. We couldn't get ahold of them through instagram, WhatsApp, and trying to call them. Save yourself the headache and book with someone else. read more

I did 6 dives with Coconut Divers - 2 cenote dives (went to Chac Mool, highly recommend) and 4 ocean dives (3 reef, 1 museum). I dove with Alex, Ulysses, and Gonzalo (I think that was his name anyway, definitely started with a G). I really enjoyed my time with all of them and they were fun and made me feel safe. I was also very easily able to make reservations with them through whatsapp after calling and having a bit of trouble with the language barrier on the phone. They communicated very well on whatsapp (in english) and I would be happy to dive with them again. Saw a spotted eagle ray and a nurse shark on our last dive. read more

We did a couple reef dives with Ulysses (dive master) and Richard (captain). It was a blast. These guys know their stuff. Ulysses planned the dives well. I'm nuts for Coconut Divers! These guys do a good job of getting inexperienced divers out to the reef and breathing underwater! We were shown a quick movie that ran us through the basics on how to operate the octopus and several reminders to keep breathing no matter what. Then we went down to a shallow swimming pool at the yacht club and marina next door, where we practiced how to wear the breathing apparatus, how to put on our mask and clear it underwater, and the basic hand signals. Then, we were off- the crew took care of everything for us- non-alcoholic drinks, got our tanks and weights, offered wet suits and all the equipment. They were quite knowledgeable and did a good job of keeping an eye on us to make sure that we didn't get in any problems or trouble while diving. Our dive included two dives- one to the underwater art museum, and one to a coral reef. Both places were excellent picks, right off the coast of Isla Mujeres. The dive masters kept really good supervision of us underwater, and I felt comfortable diving with them. The boat driver was a bit fast on choppy waters, making a few of the members our our dive team nauseous. read more

I was looking for a Scuba certification class for while I was in Cancun and im so glad I found Coconut Divers! I had emailed a few different places but ultimately went with Alex and his shop due to his customer service via email. Alex was our dive instructor and was super patient with my husband and i. Some of the requirements to get certified are pretty tough but Alex kept telling us to take our time and we were in no rush. He was so encouraging the entire way. I dove Angelita and Taj Maha with Coconut Divers. The dives were great! I've been diving for about 30 years and worked as a divemaster for a couple of years, and never seen anything like either dive site. Manuel, the divemaster on the trip did a great job. Safety was definitely his top priority but he also did a great job of teaching about how to dive caverns, what we'd see, and made the dives a lot of fun. I will definitely book with them again the next time I visit Cancun, and would recommend them to both new and experienced divers. I think Alex and Manuel would both be excellent instructors to take a class from as well. I was looking forward to doing a reef dive with them too, but the weather did not cooperate. Alex did a great job of letting me know as early as possible about the weather cancellation. They were also very flexible about organizing a trip to see the dive sites I wanted to go to. Alex, Leif, and the rest of the gang are extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and nice. I wanted to get three days of diving in, but was uncertain of my schedule. The communication with the various staff members was excellent, and they helped me decide when and where to dive, even making concessions for my odd schedule as there were other divers who were extremely flexible. My last day, I was supposed to dive a wreck, and after talking with the other diver on my boat, we decided to do two reefs instead because of my light cough, feeling a deeper dive might not be best for me. He wasn't put off by it at all, and felt like we had a better time getting to see more of the reef. The general flexibility was the biggest positive point for me. I was extremely pleased with everything. One note, when emailing, as it is with most people you email with, ask just one question per email. As we've all done when answering an email with multiple questions, a single question gets answered. I found I did the exact same thing myself this morning, so I really can't complain about it. =-) Great staff, fair pricing, and overall a lot of fun. They helped me experience new things like cenote diving, new reefs I hadn't seen before, and more. The dive masters I worked with were extremely nice, and most importantly they were excited to show me new things under the surface. As I'd expect, safety was paramount, but enjoyment was an extremely close second. These folks are top notch. I will be diving with them again next time I'm in Cancun. read more

No hesitation recommending this shop... Why? Read on my friend. The synopsis- small shop. Personal, friendly, very flexible. Boats and gear well maintained. Wetsuits a touch worn, but what do you expect? My wife and I are only open water certified, not a ton of dives so take that for what it's worth. We also researched the heck out of this before choosing coconut. The 'kick ass' web sight was not up yet, may not be ever, who knows. So I email- within an hour or so (and this was after business hours) Lorena responded- ma have been the standard reply, prices of dives various combos. Cool. So now I have questions... and right away, I get answers. She says that basically we can mix and match whatever we want. So we 'book' r dives, each 2tank. No deposit, no problem. Fast forward a week... we drop our bags at the hotel and head over. As we walk in I am greeted by name! Very nice. In no time at all we are getting fitted for gear and heading out. Lorena was our guide day one. She was very gracious, easy smiles, encouraging- don't we all want that? And that was our experience on all of our dives. Three different guides for the four dives- each had their own style, none was off putting. Part of our stay- Not coconut related* was a time share presentation. We let the dive shop know thinking we might miss a dive- no problem. We are told if we don't show up we will simply do 2 dives the next day. And as timeshares go we were held hostage until it was to late.the next day, we show up and all is well. No hassle, no worries. It was a long day with 2- 2tank dives but very fulfilling. All told we did 4 reef dives, very nice- 1 wreck dive, super cool- 1 MUSA dive(meh)- and 2 cenote, absolutely amazing and a must do. Wicked thermocline made visibility poor but the shop can't be blamed for that, nor the skill of the other divers read more

My husband and I found Coconut Divers on the last day of vacation in April of 2018. While we were unable to dive with them at that point, we decided to use them next time we were in Cancun. They were friendly and very helpful. In January of 2020 we went back to Cancun and used them. The web site seemed to have an issue but I emailed Coconut Divers and Lorena answered very quickly. We communicated a few times in email and got our dives set up. We stayed in the resort right next door - very nice to be able to just get up and walk to the dive shop. And we left all our gear at the shop after our first dive. The weather was not very cooperative during the week. We had planned 4 days of diving but were only able to do 2 due to the Harbor Master closing the port to small craft. However, Lorena was great about keeping us informed if the dives were cancelled. Side note: My husband and I are both advanced certified but while he is good - I'm still getting the hang of diving.... We were able to do the cenote on one day and a wreck/reef another day. Leif was our dive master on the cenote. He was funny, very safety oriented and didn't hesitate to nicely let you know your skill level (which was great). He also convinced me that I could do the cenote as I was a little nervous. Lorena did the wreck/reef. Again safety was the first priority. There was some current that day that I had a little trouble with. Lorena kept an eye on me and helped me a couple of times. Also, I am due for a knee replacement next month and could not make it back into the boat with all my gear on. Lorena helped take my BC and fins off and Ricardo helped me onto to boat. Lorena is a great dive master and has a million-dollar smile and personality. read more

Took a 1 hour snorkeling trip from Hacienda Tres Rios. Simple boat piloted by Jorge. Took us to two reefs: one a large area about 15 minutes north from the resort and one where a boat was sunk. Depth was about 10-15ft with good visibility. Lots of fish and a few small lobster. It was good for the $50 pp price. read more

Most professional dive shop around. We were afraid as first time divers to be mixed in a large group and to not have personalized attention. Coconut divers exceeded our safety standards and expectations. Andrea took special time to instruct us on everything we needed to know.
