Delicious. Tried a few . The parking is a bit tricky. But the establishment looked nice and clean.

Gi & Jo Cakes - Mermaid Cake

Those have come out looking and tasting outstanding. However, the reason I am giving a 3 star today is because of my wedding cake experience - which I would deem as the MOST important cake of my life. I did not get the same level of quality nor service that I normally get from her. I know this was a time when she was getting more demand than she was able to keep up with and losing orders and what not. That being said I was very communicative in what I wanted (sent a picture), and when I wanted it by, including the delivery location and time, and she confirmed everything on multiple occasions. Because of past orders, I trusted her 100% to deliver a wonderful product as she always has. Well, when I finally got to see my wedding cake on the day of my wedding, the first thing I noticed was a large bubble on the top layer - sure, this could have happened after delivery, but it was unsightly. This, I could and did get past. The second thing I noticed was the writing N & G looked so ... well not artistic. It was by hand, but did not look very sophisticated or elegant at all, I honestly would have preferred no initials or initials in non-cursive to what we got. I was very disappointed as it looked like it was added in haste, or a young child drew it. The middle layer was a little more gaudy gold that I hoped rather than the champagne gold color in the picture, but I was okay with it. And the last thing I noticed was the color of the top layer. PINK! The picture of the cake I sent was WHITE!!! Why was it Pink? Shocking! So, I tried to forget about the cake and keep enjoying my wedding day, and the cake did taste great. And to her credit, the bottom layer was absolutely gorgeous! So for the wrong color and the bad monogram, I am deducting a star. The other star comes from customer service. I did reach out to her to let her know about the bubble (she mentioned it wasn't there when it was delivered, so that's fine), and the cake color. For the complaint about color, I basically got an "oops" with absolutely no sincere apology nor suggestion for correction. Not even credits towards a future cake. It was this, that has now completely turned me off to ordering with her again. If for my wedding cake, all I got was an "oops", then I feel she did not care about me as a repeat customer whatsoever. This, I could not get past. Bummer, really. Very disappointing.

Thank you for the Beautiful cake!! You took my ideas and made the final product more beautiful than…read moreI could've imagined. The prettiest and yummiest cake!!

Am I doing something wrong? I really want to love this place. The customer service is always…read morefriendly and neatly located right next to the beach. However, every time I've tried cupcakes this past year , it's very dry. Living in San Diego with so many bakeries and cake spots, this simply doesn't live up to others. Everything is so pretty, but for the price you pay it simply doesn't live up to standard.

BabyCakes is fine. In a world of dessert spots and bakeries, BabyCakes can easily satisfy your…read moresweet tooth. The guy behind the counter was nice, informative, and (most importantly) very honest about what we were getting. As my wife and I looked at their selection, we were angling towards the 12 mini-cupcake sampler and were told that it was about $32. With single, larger cupcakes running around $4-$6, it was overall a bit steep, but we figured we might be in for something extra special. So, we swallowed the cost and bought three mini Blood Orange, three Red Velvet, three Chocolate, and three Classic Vanilla cupcakes. Overall, the cupcakes are pretty basic. They're cooked well, they're visually well crafted, and the frosting is light and sweet enough on the tongue. Flavorwise, the vanilla cupcakes were pretty forgettable. Both the Blood Orange and Red Velvet options were overwhelmed by some bit of fruit jelly dolloped on top that muted what could have been a tasty cupcake. And the Chocolate ones ... those were damn delicious! Very rich, sweet, a deep chocolate flavor, an excellent cupcake all the way through. I honestly think that if we had decided on the regular sized cupcakes, we would have thought more of BabyCakes. The cost versus what you get aside, the small size of the mini-cupcakes made it very easy for a single ingredient to overwhelm the entirety of the dessert. And I honestly only can remember the chewy texture and sweet and sour flavor of that berry jam instead of any moist richness of the Red Velvet or the tart citrus I was hoping for in the Blood Orange cupcake. As it is, I'm sure I'd come back if I were in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to Imperial Beach just for visit here.

I really want to give this place another try but for now, my review is for their boba drink. I had…read morea huuuuuge boba craving (as usual) while we were down here and I saw a kid walking around with one! We hunted for it and came across this little kiosk. No line at all, pretty early in the afternoon on a warm, and nice day overall. Surprising to see that it wasn't busier. I went for my usual, Thai tea with boba, just a small size since I was a bit hesitant on it. I should've honestly trusted my gut and went for an iced latte boba instead. The only reason I didn't was because I already had my cold brew coffee in the morning/for the day and didn't want to overdo it. I also should've asked if they brew it fresh.... I should know better by now and here I was, extremely disappointed. My poor drink was not good. I wish I could've finished it but I was struggling. They had reeeeally good chewy boba but the drink itself was nasty. They use powdered Thai tea which is not the way to go, ever. It's missing that strong, Thai tea flavor and honestly just tastes like a weird birthday cake flavor. I was extremely bummed but we plan on visiting again in the near future and will definitely update my review then. I'm sure their coffee drinks are better and I hear they're known for their egg tarts. IG: @ammysalamii

This is my first in San Diego and it tastes just as good. Portuguese egg tart crusts are made out of puff pastries while Chinese egg tarts are made out of shortcrust casing like a cheesecake crust. The puff pastries makes it flaky and less doughy. The custard is also less eggy and more creamy in the Portuguese version. I also got the Macau Dolgona coffee no boba with half and half. So good! Must try. You have to really stir to mix it all. This kiosk stand is literally between Gap and Banana Republic, more so towards Gap. Make sure to eat it when it's warm and it takes like 3 bites.
