I was driving down the street when I saw their signage and made a U-turn. Jamaicaway is located…read moreinside the Nashville Farmer's Market. It's a restaurant but you can also get some bulk Jamaican groceries too. They have so many vegan-friendly options for sides and mains. They even had some vegan desserts. I was impressed! The entrees were clearly marked V for vegan and VG for vegetarian. Their menu descriptions also took the guesswork out of determining what proteins were used. e.g. Soy Chicken, Curry Tofu, Jerk Seitan. This also helped me pick, as I am trying to avoid gluten. I was informed that all of the vegetable sides, except for anything with cheese, are vegan. SPICY JERKED SOY CHIKN (vegan) - I ordered a large plate so I could have leftovers. Both the small and large plates come with two sides, but the portion is bigger with the large. That being said, the portion was huge! The Jerk Soy Chikn was good (not spicy). I paid for an extra side so I got rice and peas, greens, and cabbage. The rice and peas tastes like it's made with coconut milk. It was some of the best rice and peas I've ever had in the USA. The greens and cabbage were very good as well, but the rice and peas were top tier. I went back and got 4 additional sides of it before leaving Nashville. VEGGIE FRIED CHIKN (vegan) - Made with soy. Coated in a seasoned batter and served with mango chutney. Delicious! I loved that chutney! I got a side of greens beans too. They were just ok. I tried the Pineapple Ginger juice. It was good and the ginger was strong. But Riddim n Spice's has better overall taste and both the pineapple and ginger taste fresher there. When I told them I was traveling 4 1/2 hours they were nice enough to package my food in travel friendly containers. I'd love to try more of their vegan options, so I'll be sure to run it back the next time I'm in Nashville.

Disappointing Experience at Jamicaway - 9/18/2026…read more My wife visited Jamicaway today, September 18, 2026, at approximately 10:22 AM and ordered her usual large spicy jerk chicken. We have been customers for years and have generally enjoyed the food and service, so what happened today was especially disappointing. While her order was being prepared, one employee had already placed chicken on the plate. Another employee came from behind the counter, went to the plate, and removed some of the better pieces of chicken that had already been selected. She then replaced them with pieces that appeared to be much lower quality, containing significantly more bones and less meat. My wife asked why the chicken was being removed from her plate, and the employee responded that the previous employee had done it incorrectly. While mistakes can happen, we were very disappointed with the way the situation was handled and, especially, with the attitude displayed toward my wife. As a longtime customer, I believe customers should receive the same quality of food and level of respect regardless of who is preparing the order. Removing the better pieces of chicken from an already prepared plate and replacing them with pieces containing considerably more bone and less meat did not leave us with a good impression. That said, I will not allow one bad experience to stop me from supporting Jamicaway. We have been coming here for years, and I hope this was simply an isolated incident. I would encourage management to look into what happened and remind staff about proper customer service and maintaining consistent food quality. We enjoy supporting local restaurants, and hopefully our next visit will be a much better experience.
