The pub has a bar area and a restaurant area - we only ever went into the bar as you could eat int here and it was really cosy (dogs are also allowed!). The staff were incredibly friendly and chatty (lets face it, Yorkshire, particularly North Yorkshire folk are possibly the most friendly on the planet - i challenge you to disprove this!). The food was INCREDIBLE. Nothing fancy pants, just really good food, VERY big portions (trust me on this, you dont need three courses - choose your weapon of starter or dessert to go alongside your main - we made the mistake one night and 1) couldnt eat it all and 2)pretty much rolled home). We spent an evening in the pub, had a meal and then sat playing card games - we felt incredibly welcome. So welcome that we ended up visiting three times in a week long holiday. The only thing pub about the Kings Head is that there is beer flow here. Is one of the best restaurants I have ever had the honor to consume platefuls of masterpiece after masterpiece. THE freshest farm/garden to table I have ever tasted, they had a chalkboard menu wall where by the second time someone walks out to erase, you wait in anticipation to see that what you really want wont be removed. The menu isn't massive but everything on it is good. The bread rolls are obviously freshly baked on site and are delicious. We also split a bowl of potato leek soup, which was very nice. The pub is pretty large and also has a back garden with picnic tables. We stayed inside next to the bar to chat with the proprietor and soak up the traditional decor. There is a large variety of beers and ciders on tap,as well as an impressive range of whiskeys and other spirits behind the bar. The publican could not have been nicer - a tall Glaswegian who offered us a sample of different local ales on the house, and even offered us eventual help in case we have trouble on the canal!
