The bedrooms are spacious, comfortable, and have all the amenities young travelers are looking for (cable, wifi, etc). Breakfast is scratch-made, breakfast casserole, or a french toast casserole, bacon, fresh fruit, homemade applesauce, OJ, and coffee (fresh-brewed, not Kureg) - or a combination of any/all the above. I will start my review with the positives. There are only two: the staff, particularly the woman at…read morethe desk, was very pleasant and as helpful as they could be. And the bed was very comfortable. That's it. Now for the not-so-great aspects of our stay. Sadly, this will take a bit of time. It was the opening day of the season so we thought it might actually be the best experience. You know....rooms all freshly cleaned and checked and ready for the season. Nope. It started with check-in when credit cards could not be processed because the phone line was not working. The woman needed to write down all my credit card details so she could "keep trying." That's a little unnerving but we understood. Things happen. Then we go to our caboose (1001) and it has not been aired out - stale and beastly hot. Since no windows open, we left the door open and blasted the A/C. Then we looked at the room. Think Red Roof Inn with no remodeling since maybe 1980. Bad. But - OK - make the best of it. At least it was clean(ish). Bzzzz....bzzzzz....now what? Three wasps. Great. The desk clerk came with a swatter and a can of wasp spray. She got 1 and left the tools for us. Are we done? Nope. Next, we discovered that there was no water pressure at the bathroom sink or shower. Only a weak trickle/drip. Maintenance came pretty quickly but, after several back-and-forth trips, determined the problem could not be fixed for our stay. We had now been unpacked for a couple hours and were just about to leave for the evening. But first, we had to drag everything to a new room, 2 doors down. I guess this was actually a good thing since the 2nd caboose (1003) was marginally less shabby than the first. Marginally. After all of the issues we had, you would think we would be offered some token of compensation, some amount deducted from our bill. Nope. Not a word and, frankly, I didn't ask. We had been understanding and even cheerful throughout all the problems yet the business did not see fit to do the right thing. The biggest shame of it is that my husband, a train enthusiast, has wanted to stay at the Caboose Motel for a long time. We just never got there until we made a special point to go. Now we know and we don't need to do that ever again.

When I came across this motel, I knew I had to try it out. It is such a neat idea I wasn't sure…read morewhat to expect and was not disappointed. There are around 29 cabooses lined up in a double row on tracks. Very clean and comfortable room. We were arriving after 9:00pm when desk was closing so they made arrangements for us to get our key which was perfect. I was impressed with how normal it looks inside and plenty of room. I know my kids would have loved this when they were little. It was a fun and unique place to stay.

Run down. The two…read morestars are for the location. If you're seeing a show here, you're about 20 feet from the hotel. Also, Chautauqua Institute is a lovely place. The room: peeling wallpaper, chipped paint, cracks in the floor and cracks in the ceiling, and floors so warped it's like a little skate park. The shower is small and dingy, also unlit. There's a light over the sink, but it's doesn't really reach the shower, especially with the shower curtain closed. The concert let out around 10:30, and we took a stroll around the grounds to skip rocks and look at constellations. When we got back to the hotel, bar closed. 11 on a Saturday night. Also no food to be had. Sunday morning continental breakfast was paltry at best. Even the coffee sucks, watery and tasteless. All this for the bargain price of about $400/night. For two of the crappiest double beds I've ever slept on. All that money is for the location.

Grant, Teddy Roosevelt, and Bill Clinton walked and stayed. We had a fantastic room at the end on the 2nd floor. It had been updated (see photos) and had a great view of the lake. There was even a charming porch area outside the room. The front desk staff were very polite, helpful, and quick to address issues. We loved our maid, too. She took care of our every need and made sure our room was cleaned properly. At the end of our visit, we asked her what some of her favorite rooms in the hotel were. She showed us each room and we reserved one for our 2025 visit. NOTE: I see that some of the less-than-stellar reviews knock the hotel for its restaurant, The Heirloom Restaurant. I agree that the food and service at the Heirloom are not that great and don't meet expectations for such a grand hotel. But I shared that in a separate 3-star review for the restaurant.

So we flew from LAX to Buffalo, NY, which allowed us to visit Niagara Falls (stunning) and then take a quick drive south to Bradford, PA (home of Zippo lighters). The first thing one notices when entering this part of Pennsylvania is how well-kept the homes and farms are. And when you turn onto the access road to the Glendorn Lodge, you see their farm-to-table patch of a vegetable farm. Once through the gate, the drive is a couple of miles to the main lodge and check-in. The staff are so wonderful and polite, calling us by our last names, which is very formal but a nice touch! Our home, cabin, was lovely beyond description. The master bedroom was stunning, the screened-in porch was perfect for 10 to 12 people hanging out (ideal for a family reunion), and we had an outdoor fireplace/pit blazing and roasting marshmallows for the kids. The next morning, we rode bicycles that you keep at your cabin home. We went out on a small lake with paddleboards, canoes, kayaks, etc. We also played volleyball and had lunch catered and delivered to the lake - fantastic service. The next day we played tennis, swam, basketball and even shot skeet! As our time at Glendorn came to a close, we reflected on the unparalleled service and the deep sense of relaxation we experienced throughout our stay. The staff truly went above and beyond, ensuring every detail was perfect, and their personalized approach made us feel like cherished guests rather than just visitors. To cap off our trip, we took a leisurely drive back toward Buffalo, savoring the memories of Niagara Falls and our time at the resort. We left Glendorn with our spirits lifted, ready to cherish the beauty of nature and the luxury of wonderful hospitality. If you ever find yourself in the northwest corner of Pennsylvania, I highly recommend Glendorn for an unforgettable retreat.
