Mrs. Susie and her team are so lovely with the kids! The space is always super tidy and clean. The kids have a lot of freedom to play and socialize. There are plenty of toys, books, art, and zones that cycle by season. Susie and her team are communicative and organized. Drop-off in the mornings is quick and easy. Pick-up in the evening is the same or when we wanted to chat with staff for a few minutes they would always give us a minute. I recommend this provider for parents that are seeking good structure with freedom to play, socialize, and gain some independence.

They are so amazing at what they do. I truly feel so spoiled my daughter has been taught, and nurtured, at this school during these precious years. There are only 12 children; it is a very intimate environment, which I love and appreciate a lot. It is evident my child is happier, smarter, and more socially intelligent because of her experience here. I'm getting emotional even writing this review because of how special they've made this phase of life. My first time there, the pastor was baptizing before preaching and there was so much love and community in the room. At this time in our USA history (2016) there is a lot of division in the country due to the presidential election, and we also have experienced some terrible shootings on our own soil, and witnessed horrific tragedies abroad. The message from the pulpit at Bay Farm is what you would hope.. I have heard no hints of party politics, and what I do hear is a message of love, respect, peace, strength, and courage to follow Jesus. God's Word is used throughout the pastor's messages, and he brings the timeless stories to life with information about the historical context and geography, and the meanings of words and phrases as they were used throughout scripture. For instance in a recent teaching on the story of the Good Samaritan, he helped the audience picture the road, terrain, danger, the relationships between the different types of people, and why it was such a big deal that the injured traveler might not have wanted to have to rely on a Samaritan. A "bible based church" means to me that you can trust that you are hearing the word of God, and is so much clearer and easier for me to understand than trying to sort through the individual human bias of a different style of church. No prosperity theology here. I can't yet speak to the feel of BBQ's and community events but there is every indication that socials will be welcoming; in August they were having their big picnic on a day we were there, and pastor encouraged everyone to reach out and meet someone new that afternoon (I could not attend.). My advice to anyone new, don't wait for people to approach you, be friendly and you will find people who will be friendly back! In all things, you will grow most when you join things, so attend regularly, join a LifeGroup (small group that meets weekly), and volunteer, is my advice for being known.

Best of all the teachings are understandable! This is something that is huge for me - and that I had a hard time finding at other churches before I came to BFCC. The messages are easily applicable to today's world and our lives and still 100% bible based. Credit to Pastor John who is phenomenal at what he does. God has given him a gift. I also like that there are two overhead projectors with the text as well as the music lyrics for the day. So you always know what is going on and don't feel out of place. Plus the chairs are so comfy. I especially love the upbeat and contemporary music that we sing and listen to. The music is so uplifting and wonderful each and every time. The young couples group (which meets weekly) offers relevant bible teachings and a heartwarming family community. I very much encourage you to try this group if you are interested; sadly our schedules did not coincide with the meeting which is why we no longer attend. I hope to return to the group in the future. I have never loved attending church as much as I do until I started attending BFCC. I have zero complaints. Five of five.

When it came time for us to choose an elementary school, we contemplated many and did all the tours and open houses. Initially, what drew me to SPN was the curriculum. For the last 5 years, I have been tutoring and I was especially impressed with the work I would see the SPN kids doing. They were challenged as well as supported. Since I was also starting to do my homework on which school to send my daughter, I would also talk the parents of all my students about their experience. It seemed to me that the families that chose SPN were happier overall than the families of the other Alameda schools, both public and private. My daughter is now a 1st grader and my husband and I could not be happier with our choice. The school has been very welcoming and warm. The parent community is very involved and inclusive. Athletics are very important to my husband and I and we were thrilled to find out that Kindergartners are welcome to join both the cross country and track and field teams! Our class is super diverse: ethnically and socially. We love that our daughter will be with her same class all the way through 8th grade. My classroom teaching background is in middle school and another huge plus to this school is the interaction the little ones have with the big kid and vice versa. As for the religion component of the school - the kids attend mass weekly, they have regular religion classes in class. From what I have seen, they teach the best of what organized religion has to offer, character and community building.

Considering the kind of church that I grew up in back in my hometown, where I didn't have many people my age and where I'd even got jaded about church to the point of leaving, I am thankful that I found Gracepoint and that through this church God has brought me back to Him. Gracepoint has been a place where I've been able to hear the Gospel clearly and plainly, where Christ-centered teaching has been and is the focus. It's been a place where I've been able to call my home, a place where I've found many friends and developed long-lasting bonds with people over the years, people who I can trust to help me through the different ups and downs of life because of our unity in the body of Christ. Who is this church for? It's good for those who are looking to learn more about God, interested in learning about Christianity and looking to deepen in their walk with God. It's a largely young demographic (college students, young adults, and families with children), mostly Asian, but also quite inclusive of other ethnic groups as well. Personally, I went to GP for most of my undergrad years and experienced pain and trauma that no one should have to go through at any church. If you're looking to join a church in Berkeley, I would recommend checking out pretty much any other place like Newman or RUF. Don't make the same mistake I did and waste your time here.
