Nothing was lost, damaged or broken, and we have some very priceless pieces of furniture, but that is where the good news ends. We were only moving 4 miles away. During the onsite survey I pointed out to the rep that we had an 800 lb. natural wood console table and any outfit wanting to move our furniture needed a lift on the truck to handle it or not bother to take on this move. I was assured by the rep they had a lift and would send one. I also stated that I needed to have the movers pick up two cabinets from a neighbor. I was assured by the rep that they would add that to the manifest. The rep also stated they would take all our planters. The manifest had 48 pieces of furniture on it and stated it would take 7 hours to move (including the 1 hour travel time). I selected this outfit because the rep was very professional and seemed to cover everything. I chose them over two other outfits.
Before move day I was able to move a lot on my own and had it down to 16 pieces of furniture I could not move.
Move day. I get a courtesy call from the movers they are on their way and instruct them they need to go to the main gate on Rte 1. I get a second call from the movers that they need an access code.. hmmm? I ask which gate they are in front of. They are at the back private members gate. They show up, but I am already billed 15 minutes.... it goes down hill from here.
It's hard to make this long story short. They were slow, paid too much attention to folding move blankets and joking around on the truck doing nothing, while the skies treated to downpour. I had to assist in the move by positioning rickety dollies under the 800 lb. pound wood table and help them push it up the ramp onto the truck, then help them get it off and into the new home. And guess what, they ran out of room on the truck and could not pick up the 2 cabinets from a neighbor and moaned about putting the planters on the truck. The crew manager's special relations ability is surely lacking. What were they going to do had I decided not to move anything in advance? It took them 6 hours to move 16 pieces of furniture and a dozen planters 4 miles. I had to assemble the master bed because I did not trust their skill set. When they left, I discovered in one of the guest rooms a bed unassembled and all the rails, headboard and footboard still wrapped in move blankets. Yes, I assembled that room, too.
I immediately wrote a letter to the rep describing in detail what you are reading here, with constructive content to make their outfit more professional and I have not had the courtesy of a response (one week later as of this writing). Then I get a electronic survey and write the same. No response.
In my letter to the rep, I stated a motto I had lived by during my 35 year career as a professional in management. "Failure of the employee is a failure of management."
I had tipped each of the 3 movers as they were rushing to get out of there after everything was off the truck.
I gave this outfit an opportunity to get in touch with me and make good on their promise, and because of their failure to do so I cannot and will never recommend this outfit to anyone I know.
