We have boarded our two dogs here for the last six years on a regular basis. We leave for out of the country visits for about 10 days. Our dogs love it! They run right in and always are happy to come back. We have always had the best of care regardless of how many medications they needed to be given. Horrible. Horrible. Horrible. Read these 1 star reviews and believe them. I dropped my cats off and when I walked back, the overwhelming smell of ammonia, pee, poop, etc was HORRIBLE. Then, the cages looked like a jail. It was gross, and just had a bad vibe, but I couldn't change plans so I just had to leave them. When I got back to get them they were BOTH sick. So, I called the owner seeing if He would compensate me for having to take them to the vet. Not only did He argue with me the entire time, but He was very aggressive, demeaning, and rude. I have used this resort twice, once for a week and once for 3 days and I am so happy with them. i originally was going to use another business but after touring that business I quickly realized they were not right for my dog. they would not let me tour the facility and they also denied me coming back and checking on my pet. so I found the pet resort after and the owner was very welcoming he let me tour the building and said I was welcome to come back and see my dog anytime. every time I have came it has been clean smelled clean and my dog has been well taken care of. we are very picky pet owners and so this is something we take seriously I cannot say enough about this business they are wonderful down to earth and care about this place. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! After failing to find accommodations in my town for my sweet doggie I reserved a suite and grooming for him here. He was housed in a comfy doggie suite by himself with air conditioning and television for 6 blissful days. I don't think he wanted to leave! This business is CLEAN. Does not smell!! The staff is fantastic and is owned by a retired MS veterinarian who is on site! No fleas, kennel cough, abnormal behavior or anything most complain about boarding their babies. I will be returning to Orange Beach next year with my baby knowing he will be cared for and loved by the staff at Coastal Pet Resort! read more

If I could give this place NEGATIVE stars I would! I am so livid right now I cannot see straight. I usually do not give bad reviews or post it for that matter, but COASTAL PET RESORT in Foley, AL is the worst place I have ever been to. I have a loving, sweet, gentle doodle that I have PERSONALLY trained and worked with since 7 weeks old. He has NEVER flinched when I reach for him and he's never not gotten excited to see me. I have been grooming him at home and doing all the trims myself up until this point and he has never given me any trouble. He loves his feet played with and his face. NEVER AN ISSUE WITH HIM BEFORE TODAY. WHEN I GOT HIM FROM COASTAL, he was tail tucked and SCALPED. Not only we're they super rude to my wife and myself, they mistreated my fur baby. Charged 50$ for face, feet, and Fanny... NONE of which got done!!!! The parts that were done was done with no guard and Bentley has cuts all by his eyes!!!!! They cut his penis and bottom to the point he cannot use the restroom, he hasn't perked up not once since I picked him up. I called to let them know that his ear hairs were not plucked and they were still soaking wet on the inside and they could not care less. The man who works there PROCEEDED TO LAUGH when we told him how bad off Bentley is!!! We called our vet and they said that is the worst place and should be shut down, but at this point Bentley is already traumatized and upset. I have never been more disappointed and disgusted in my whole life. DO NOT TAKE YOUR BABIES HERE!!! So disappointed in the service my Pomeranian received from groomer. Typically groomer will maintain her Pomeranian look with her mane. She came out looking like a rat. Head shaved to nothing. Areas on her chest and head where they got too close. The chest area goes down to skin with one swipe. Back of head looks like they put a bowl on her head. She was cold last night, needed a blanket and she's usually too hot. Poor baby I think she felt naked. My dogs first trip at a kennel, I was nervous. We dropped Winnie off with a list of her vaccines, behavior and food instructions. The woman was very pleasant and brought us to Winnie's room. A clean cell all her own, the only noticeable thing were the surrounding barking dogs. I'm not sure what I expected as it looked dark and scary to me. When I picked Winnie up, she received a stamp of approval. They gave me her food and toys back. The woman gave me a break down of Winnie's activities (which sounded just like her). Winnie was safe and happy when I picked her up so I know she was in good hands. Thank you for taking care of my girl. read more

I would definately bring my pups back here again! We are from out of town, but wanted to take our pups to the beach with us, so we found this pet resort close to where we were staying, on the Bon Secor Bay. The lady that I spoke to on the phone when booking their stay, was the same lady who Greeted us when we got there the first day and she was there when we picked them up on the last day. She was very sweet, and I could tell she was going to be great with the dogs. We boarded both our doodles. They stayed in a kennel which was perfect size for both of them. We brought our own food and pet beds, which I am glad we did bc the kennels didn't have beds. (I am not sure if they provide food, but she noted on our paper that we "brought own food" , so they may provide it.)They do have an upgraded kennel you can rent for about $10-15 extra a night, that Does have beds and a few other amenities. We checked on the dogs half way into our trip, and they seemed like they were having a good time. The lady told us, if they got dirty while we checked them out, that there would be a grooming fee applied. (They offer grooming as well.) There are a few dogs parks and dog friendly restaurants in Foley and Gulf Shores, but there are NO dog beaches. (That's a Bummer! My pups LOVE the beach.) The facility was nice. It was very clean and smelled good! The price per night was very reasonable. We usually come down to Foley once or twice a year, and we will be using Coastal Pet Resort in the future, for sure. They shaved my Golden Retreiver, after being instructed to trim & bathe only. Cockapoo was supposed to get "Feet, Face, and Fanny, and nothing else, they did not follow those instructions either. Dogs drank a full bowl of water after getting home, so I know they weren't give n water for the 9 1/2 hours they had our dogs. Terrible, terrible service and charged us $125 for it. read more

Our cocker spaniel missed an appointment at home and needed a haircut while we where at our house here. She had a skirt and pantaloons that had grown out and were hard to brush. This was the only place we could get her in after 5 or 6 other calls, and I can tell you why. She was almost shaved when we picked her up as I read in 2 other reviews...one for a golden and the other a pom. I believe they even shaved her legs down to almost nothing so she wouldn't have to brush her out. We asked for an all over even trim and showed here a picture of just what we had wanted. And in addition, we don't believe she was actually bathed because her ears which were left long, appeared to just have been cut around the edges but the ear didn't look freshly washed as they usually do. In addition, she shed short little hairs al over us and the car which she never does like she wasn't rinsed after the cut and certainly not blown dry with anything to remove the clippings. I agree with the review written by Denise which basically said the same thing that I'm saying along with the owner of the golden, Doug, who had the same experience too. Also, as noted by other customers, the groomer was not friendly and just acted like our dog was on an assembly like asking one question, "how do you want her?" with no greeting to us or our dog, none of the usual affection groomers normally have like "what a sweet dog" or even asked her name. The only good thing is that her thick curly hair didn't get matted, She was only a week past her normal appointment up north so she did not require the extremely short cut and shave, WOULD NEVER GO THERE AGAIN. read more

My dog needed a bath and I saw a coupon for this place. As soon as we got in the owner insulted snowbirds and Michigan women in particular. He said that they were always trying to game the system with coupons. I assured him this was my first time there and I wasn't trying to game anything. I talked to him about my dog and he acted as if he knew more about my dog than I did, because he use to be a veterinarian. I found him to be dismissive and insulting, but I think he thought he was funny and charming. He took us to the back for the grooming. The place was like a maze, all hard cement surfaces, narrow halls, & closed doors. No decorations. It felt like a dungeon. It also smelled. When I picked up my dog she pulled me out of the building. It was obvious she wanted to get out of there. She never acts like that. She usually wants to say hello to everyone. Once at home I was able to look her over, she had an overwhelming smell of baby powder. Now I wonder if she even got a bath or if they just doused her with powder. I won't be going back. read more

Not happy with the grooming of my huskies. They had a thick coat (especially one of them) and I needed them bathed and brushed out really good. Usually when I get the really furry one groomed he comes out with about half the hair and light and fluffy. He looked exactly the same as when I dropped him off. He was clean, but the hair situation was the same. It's really hard for me to brush him especially when he's shedding so much, so I count on the groomer. The groomer I usually use was booked until the end of the next week, so I used these people. Never again. I went back to talk to the groomer to see if maybe she could brush him out a bit more. She just kept saying she brushed him twice and i should get one of the tools she had and brush him. I just paid her $100 to groom my dogs!! So i shouldn't have to. Her attitude was bad too, she would barely respond or look up from the dog she was brushing. No interest in making it right. I just left. I'll never go to this place again. Yeh, this is a big no. Nope, nope, noooooope. Unfortunately, I came upon this place while I was planning a trip in Gulf Shores, AL, where my friends own some beachfront condos. Since I was in the middle of a move for the holidays from Florida to Ohio, I was traveling with my 2 cats. My friends' condos don't allow any pets. About a month prior to leaving Florida, I spent some time reading reviews of boarders in the area. Although I wasn't blown away by some of the reviews I read here, I gave CPR the benefit of the doubt and called to inquire for more info. Upon calling, I had an informative conversation with a friendly man, who answered all of my questions and satisfied all of my concerns. Since I was making an 8+ hour drive the day I was to arrive, I would likely be arriving slightly after hours. No problem, he said, just pay a small fee, and a female employee would be able to meet me to check my pets into the resort after hours. Just call about an hour out and give us a head's up. Perfect. I scheduled the stay, and that was that. Fast forward a few weeks later, I spend a day traveling (alone) with my 2 cats all the way from Naples, Florida (you know, almost the southern tip of the state). Long day of driving alone on unfamiliar roads with 2 cats who stress easily and have had health issues in the past because of stress. I call the resort when I'm about an hour away, as I had been instructed, to give a head's up on my arrival window. An unfriendly younger woman answers the phone. This was apparently the employee with whom I'd be meeting and paying to meet me after hours. I explain my name, why I'm calling, when I'm going to be there, "head's up", etc. By the tone of her voice, this was all news to her, even though I had a reservation. She tells me it will be an extra fee to arrive about an hour after closing time. No problem, I say, I'm aware, I signed up for this, I'm excited for my cats to stay. She sounds extremely put out, annoyed, and honestly, hostile. Tells me she has "plans" after work, but she will return after. No problem, I say, trying to cooperate, "I'll just chill out and wait in parking lot until you return. Take your time." She offers to give me her cell phone number, at which point I explain I'm driving on dark, unfamiliar country roads, and can't pull over to write the number down, and can she please text or email me the number. She says, "No." Say what? She says no again. Conversation continues on antagonistic spiral, and at a certain point, I questioned (in my mind) if this rude woman would even bother feeding my cats. I finally just said, you know, I'm not comfortable leaving my cats there, forget it. Equally as important, she was so incredibly ugly on the phone, the last thing I wanted to do was meet this woman in a dark parking lot alone after hours - then hand over 2 of the most important possessions I own. I'm writing this review so others don't waste their time. As a result of the experience, I had to jump on the phone while driving in the dark through backwoods Alabama country roads to find a reasonable pet-friendly hotel for myself and for my pets. I spent nearly $600 on said hotel and my friends I was supposed to stay with on the ocean? One spent the night literally in tears I couldn't stay with them. It completely ruined the first night of my vacation (and theirs). What a waste. Saddest part is I would have paid this woman $500 to meet me after hours and would have waited for her all night, as long as I knew my cats would be well taken care of. This employee was incapable of basic civility on the phone. We all have bad days; you don't get to have one when someone is about to turn their fur children over to you. I boarded my long haired Dachshund from Nov. 17 - Nov. 29 at Coastal Pet Resort. I paid for a suite. When I got back to pick up Stella the lady fetched her bed blanket and one of her toys. Stella was beside herself seeing me as she is my very best friend. I paid and took her home. When we got home I picked her up and could see that she was absolutely COVERED in fleas, I had never seen so many. I gave her 2 baths baths to remove them. I bathe Stella regularly and brush her daily, she also gets regular flea treatments every month. I had bathed her Thursday before dropping her off on Nov. 17th. The lady forgot to give me her medicine, so I went back on Dec. 5th. I told them (the owner) how dis-satisfied I was, explaining that she was dirty and INFESTED with fleas. He said 'no way'. He asked the lady what 'suite' she had been put in and the lady said 'the red one'. I said that was incorrect because she was checked into (and I placed her stuff in) the yellow room upfront. The lady then told the owner 'she (Stella) had been moved around quite a bit' I paid nearly $500 for a specific room for her. This place is a joke! DO NOT BOARD the PET YOU LOVE HERE!!! read more

Since this was Baxter's first beach trip, we didn't realize how scruffy he would look. I called last minute to see if we could have him groomed on a VERY busy week end. CPR was very accommodating and said yes! We dropped him off around 9 am and picked up a happy, clean , trimmed dog. Coastal Pet Resort was very clean and did not smell even though I heard and saw many other dogs in boarding rooms and waiting to be groomed. We were very pleased and will recommend and use this business again. read more

Recently, we boarded our 2 dogs, a Yorkie and a Maltipoo, at this "resort" while we vacationed at Gulf Shores. We drove 6 hours with our babies so we could have them close. First of all, as advertised, I asked for a tour. Hesitantly, they gave me one. The place smelled of fabuloso in the entrance so I was pleased with that. When we went to the back to see the run we reserved, it obviously smelled of dog urine. I wasn't too taken back as that would be expected with so many dogs being boarded there. When Sherry showed me the run they would be staying in, she noticed the look of worry and concern on my face seeing as though my dogs were small and she thought I would prefer a suite for them. Thankfully they had a suite available however is needed to be cleaned so they took me to their back office and we put my dogs in a kennel while they cleaned the suite. Sherry was sweet and I appreciated that, I felt better about leaving them. The following day, I decided to call to check on my dogs. Again, as advertised and as recommended by Sherry, I called. A man answered the phone and was extremely rude when I asked about my dogs. To the point that he yelled at me and told me I was asking too many questions. He said he was in the middle of a lot of stuff. I apologized because I didn't realize there was a specific time to call and told him I would try back later. I would have gone to pick up my dogs at that point but I didn't have anywhere else to board them. Obviously, I was too nervous to call back since I was yelled at. Several days later, I decided to call again but this time I asked for Sherry. He said she wasn't there. I asked if it was a good time to call and ask about my dogs. He sighed heavily and said he was in the middle of checking someone out. I said I didn't mind holding however, he still proceeded to ask me my dogs names. I gave it to him and he turned his head over to, I assume someone sitting next to him, he asked how are they doing, the persone responded "perfect" and he repeated "perfect" to me on the phone. And that was it. I know that most of the people reading this feel the same way about their dogs as I do mine, they are our babies, children, family. The old man that works there was EXTREMELY rude to me and I was not pleased with having to pay $300 for the treatment I received just for calling to check on my dogs, as advertised. When I picked my dogs up, they smelled of urine, their bed and blanket had poop on it and we had to pull over at a Tractor Supply before we headed home to give them baths because it was so bad. My Yorkie had diarrhea all the 6 hours home. They both lost significant weight. I am aware that the stress and being away from the norm could cause all these things but being as though I called to check on them, I would have expected them to share some of what they were experiencing with me. I was very unhappy and DO NOT recommend anyone to leave their babies there. read more

These people are criminals. I wish I would have read their reviews before trusting them with my dog. It seems to be their MO that the guy that answers the phone Ron is really nice so you anticipate a good experience. However, Kelly the groomer and possibly owner in the back doesn't want to be bothered, doesn't acknowledge you and is very rude. I was quoted $45 over the phone which is the same price we would pay our normal groomer that was booked solid the next few week. We had company coming and wanted cleaned up but somehow $45 turned into $75 without any explanations. Heather was extremely rude and indifferent to the situation she took our dog to the back and kenneled him. Then said we can leave but can't take our dog. I called Gulf Shore police and was told unfortunately it's a civil matter pets are considered property. Obviously at Coastal Pets they too consider pets property and to be used as leverage to extort more money out of you. He was dropped off at 8am and not ready until 4pm that in itself is reason to never go back but his place is horrible. It's one thing to have comments on someone's ability to groom that can be subjective but these are horrible spiteful people working at Coastal Pet Resort. Please don't subject yourself or your pet to these people. read more

We took our dog here to have her legs, face and rear end trimmed, they did not do what we asked them to do. It only looked like they trimmed the very end of her paws. When we said we were not satisfied they said "you'll have to come another day and we'll have to charge you again." My pet just spent the week in a private suite- we were met after hours by a very nice lady for a small extra fee- the suite was spacious cool and had bed and TV- we were able to leave toys and her own food !! She must have eaten and was happy because she did not lose weight we have left her other places before and she has lost weight- she was groomed there( which I don't recommend) - we were very pleased with service!!! read more

This place really made our day during our mini-vacation in Gulf Shores. We were looking for a place to drop our dog off for the day, since the beaches at Gulf Shores are not very dog-friendly (residual oil cleanup and high fines if caught on the beach). This place took BOO for the day, groomed him and trimmed his nails after his week in Louisiana running around the woods, being a dog. The staff took the time to meet us and BOO, talked to us about what the dog responds to, and did a great job of cleaning him up. I called several days to a week before to schedule my dogs for a grooming appointment for today, Thursday, March 14 and I was running a bit behind and the man on the phone told me that he didn't have me in the system but ended up finding my name for the next Thursday, the 21st. I know I didn't schedule for that day because that's 2 weeks away and I was going to be out of town. Well the man was extremely nice and said they could fit me in for today and to go ahead and come on down. Very pleased with that. When I got there they led me to the back where I was able to put both my dogs in the same kennel and I was allowed to put them in there myself. Groomer seemed nice. They said it would be a while until they were done which was kind of fine because still had time to take my dogs but again I had scheduled for today anyways. Picked them up around 3:30 and the older receptionist lady led me to the back where I got my dogs and they looked pretty great and smelled good but later my fiancé had said that he doesn't think they gave them a bath because one of them had a lot of fur still come off of her. Anyways they charged me $100 for a 15lb dog and a 40lb dog and I asked for only one dog's nails to be clipped and I told the receptionist that I was told $45 for the 40lb dog and the 15lb one would be cheaper because he's smaller where she responded with that was just an estimate but even if they were both 45 it would end up being $90 and she would charge me that if I was mad but I went ahead and paid it. Later after I got in the car and started to drive away I noticed my smaller dog was licking his paw and when I looked at it, it was bleeding a lot and I saw that they had cut his dew claw nail WAY too far. It was maybe a little less than an inch long. They didn't tell me they cut his nail too short and he was bleeding a lot after I noticed and it didn't stop until I had to stop at PetSmart to get the powder that makes it stop bleeding. Well I called them and told them about it and the receptionist had apologized and said if she had noticed she would have done something but that she didn't know what to tell me to do about it but I work in a vet clinic and I know what to get and I told her that and she said she would tell the groomer and that was it. Started off great, ended up badly and I will not bring my dogs back. They make themselves look amazing when they couldn't even check for a small thing. Took our dog in for a bath today after he received a dreadful haircut from a different dog grooming organization here in the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area about a month ago. They did a great job. Our dog is older and so they got him done much more quickly than we expected. He came out with happy eyes and didn't seem in a big hurry to leave, so we know they treated him well. read more

We went to gulfshores/orange beach for a vacation without realizing just how pet unfriendly the area was. Coastal pet resort appealed to us because of the doggy day care and outdoor access. We called for information and had our pet's records faxed over. Doggy day care the first day was $20 (a reasonable price for the location). The staff was generally friendly to us, though we did witness some rudeness toward other customers. One employee was also very helpful with suggestions for some pet friendly activities/areas. The overwhelming negative aspect that merits the 2 stars was the condition of our dog after boarding. After the first day (doggy day care) we picked up our dog and she was excited to see us. When we got back, we gave her water and she drank and drank (over a liter) which was a little concerning. We had a complication with times for check-in at a hotel and a charter fishing trip which led us to board her overnight the very next day ($34 for a private suite). This time when we picked her up the only thing she was happy about was leaving. We had never before seen/heard her behavior when they brought her up front. This time I checked her gums (white=dehydrated), her gums were indeed white so we gave her water immediately. Our fifty pound dog drank close to 2 liters in one sitting. Access to water was surely restricted, which is not alright; for this reason we would not recommend boarding at this facility. read more

We had our Shihtzu George there today for his very first haircut etc. and we couldn't be more pleased. They did such a great job and the facility is immaculate and friendly. Since the rates were very reasonable too, we would definitely recommend them to others. read more

We were visiting my parents in Gulf Shores and decided on inquiring about this Pet Resort. We had just had our dog at a doggy day care in New Smyerna, which was amazing and took wonderful care of our dog for at least 6 days. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone was very nice, explained how it worked. So we decided to bring our dog there for one day. After explaining who we were and had just called, the gentleman took down our information and a young girl came out to get our dog. So instead of picking him up (he's a small dog) she put a nylon noose around his neck and proceded to drag him across the floor! I stopped her and took the noose off and asked her not to do that. I should have followed my instinct and not left him there at all. But I was impressed by the reviews they got on the website. When my husband went to pick up our dog. They said they had no record of him being there! After some searching they found him. Then my husband asked where his collor and harness was? They responded he didn't come with any on. He had to have his rabies tag and collar on for us to leave him there I was told. So my husband asked them to find his collars. They had no idea where they were. To which point my husband aggravated by this unbelievable situation, told them he had never seen such mismanagement in all his life. He proceded to go to the boarding area and found them laying on a bench. I would never recommend this place at all to ANYONE. read more

I've been taking my dog to Coastal for grooming for about a year and a half and was satisfied until May 5, 2017. At that time I received a call stating they "thought" my dog had broken his leg. Needless to say, when I got there his rear left leg was hanging and was most definitely broken. Any reputable groomer would have known the leg was broken. In speaking with the owner of Coastal he stated he wasn't there when it happened but had been told my dog jumped out of the cage, which by the way was on the top row of cages. Now my dog is almost 14 years old. Why would you place a 14 year old dog in an upper cage when there were vacant ones on the bottom row. The owner stated it was poor judgment on the groomers part. Not only am I angry that my dog was injured while in Coastal's care but my expenses are already over $1000 and he is still under a doctor's care. I asked about insurance on the groomer's part and was told she was a single mother and struggling to make ends meet and did not have insurance and was told Coastal was not responsible for the injury. The owner did get me $400 from the groomer but I'm still out over $600 plus additional charges since he is still under a doctor's care. I want to add that the groomer had a "helper" that day and I'm not sure if she was properly trained. So needless to say, I'm going to find a new groomer and would not recommend Coastal because I do not feel I received adequate compensation as well as honesty as to what really happened to my baby. read more

We will not use Coastal Pet Resort in Foley, Alabama again. The women we met there when we dropped our dog off for a 5-night reservation were all very nice. The man we encountered, however, when we came in to pick up our dog was incredibly unprofessional, rude, and cursed loudly at us within seconds of us walking in the lobby. This man was either the owner or a manager. We came in early on a Monday morning, excited to pick up our dog, and when we and a staff person asked him if there was anything we needed to know, he threw his hands in the air and began shouting profanity for no apparent reason. I'm unaware of any reason to shout the "F" word at any time especially to me, a customer whom he has never met. After I stood staring at him in disbelief for a moment, I informed him politely, that I didn't enjoy his disrespect, and to please let me pay and I would leave with my dog. As I left I informed him we would not be using their services in the future. That was our first and last visit.
