Bottom Line: Coastal Mi-Box placed our box in a location that they were unable to remove it from once it was loaded, then charged us an additional fee because the driver had to wait for us to unload it and reload it for them. There is no sense of accountability at this business, I'd recommend looking elsewhere before hiring Coastal MiBox.
Summary: We have a steep driveway. Coastal MiBox delivered the 20' container and placed it at the bottom of the driveway and we figured we were all set. We were not made aware of any additional restrictions that needed to be followed due to this placement.
Over the next couple weeks we loaded the box with normal household goods.
Coastal showed up the morning of our closing, it just so happened that it was after closing, and attempted to hoist the box onto their truck. They were unable to load it and called to tell us that it was too heavy to load and that we'd need to come unload it. At this point the new owners were at the house and we were embarrassed to say the least, not to mention we had to take the rest of the day off from work to help them solve the problem. Alex from Coastal insisted this was a weight issue and that we loaded it with too many belongings, and would not even consider the fact that the truck was not setup to hoist their box on an incline.
I unloaded about 25% of the contents on the lawn and the driver tried to put it on the truck, which he only successfully accomplished after a bit of encouragement and coaching. I should note here that the driver was extremely friendly, so no complaints there. Once on the truck, it was transported and unloaded on the level road where I had to reload most of our belongings. After spending hours moving my belongings 100 feet from the original box location up to the road and into the box, the driver came back and wouldn't you know it, he was able to load it onto the truck! Gee, it must not have had anything to do with the weight after all!
After all this, Alex had the consideration to inform me that he wasn't going to "hit me with a ton of fees," just a $90 fee for waiting around for me to rearrange my belongings because of their error. What a nice guy! Not only was this inappropriate, Alex should have admitted that they were at fault and at a minimum apologized for the inconvenience which included a day off work and storing items that I was unable to get back into the box at my old neighbors house because of the rushed situation. Alex was not remotely accountable and I would look elsewhere before using Coastal MiBox. read more
