Climbing Wall
Rocky W.

Best climbing gym in Charleston! They're a little out of the way, but this place is located on Upper King. Their parking lot was under construction last time I went so parking can be annoying and it's Downtown so it's limited. I've been here about 3 times with friends. The guy that watches the front is really friendly. My friends and I were relatively new to rock climbing, but he walked us through everything the facility has to offer and the fair pricing plans that they have. If it's your first time here, they have you sign a waiver that you acknowledge that rock climbing is obviously dangerous, blah blah, may cause death. Also, there's a 10 minute safety video that they make you watch. As far as the facilities go, they only offer bouldering here and no top-roping. There are two floors with various walls that you can climb. Having climbed gyms in Columbia and Chicago, this place seemed size in comparison, but that's typical of downtown businesses. The difficulties of the walls are color coded and correspond to a numerical number. They have a wall for everyone! Pro or noob, everyone should be able to do something. The floors are well patted so falls aren't as bad. I consider the upper floor to be harder as there's a wall with a crazy incline and hard rocks to grip onto. For monthly members, they have free yoga classes, a small gym, and a treadmill rock climbing wall available. What's also nice is that the wall layouts change roughly every two weeks so you don't get bored. They're very creative with the challenges that they come up with and they let everyone vote on the difficulty of the new problems. After coming here once, I decided to get the 10 Climb pass for $99. Sadly, they raised the price soon after to $119, but I think it's the best value for people who don't have time to regularly climb all the time. Also, it's cheaper than a regular daypass and can be used on your friends. Climbing shoes cost $4, a chalk bag costs $2, but getting the two together costs $5. Checking in on Yelp also earns you a free chalk bag. They also have some specials sometimes like "Ladies Night" every third Friday of the month where girls get 50% off a daypass. The climbers here are really nice, I was able to make new friends easily with people that have been doing this for years and those who just started. It's not awkward to talk to the people next to you for help and everyone is very open. They also have climbing classes and a climbing club that you can join to meet new people. Overall, I recommend this facility to anyone who's interested in rock climbing in Charleston, beginner or expert.

We drove 7 hours away after being told our daughter could climb. Told us she wasn't allowed upon arrival.

This place is awesome! A fun alternative to traditional work out methods and just as effective. The owners are really nice people!

I usually frequent the West Ashley location, but it is only a few months old so it's not yet on Yelp. Emily Valentine teaches core vinyasa on Sundays, and it is always a great time! She has an amazing playlist and is always motivating and supportive. I always leave feeling like I really worked out my whole body and I am ALWAYS sore the next few days, but it's a good feeling because I know I worked hard in Emily's class! I also highly recommend their assisted deep stretch class. It's very relaxing and it feels so good to stretch and take your mind off of everything going on. The studio spaces are always clean and well taken care of. There's only been a couple times where a class was really crowded, but we always make it work!

Why do you do this to guests?…read more We entered the lobby to cocktail-party level chitchat, which didn't seem to phase anyone but my friend and me. Nice Staff showed us to lockers. All that could have been ok if the class had been ... enjoyable enough to do. Why did the teacher have a headpiece for screaming instructions, when there is no way the room wouldn't be covered just fine by her voice. I tried for about fifteen minutes, trying to follow her sometimes muted screaming by looking around me. I gave up and went to the front desk where they kindly said this was normal and offered me a cup of earplugs to pick from. I took them and used them for about three minutes when I gave up. The place purposefully makes it so loud that they have odes of earplugs in a cute little jar on the counter. That's just messed up. I usually do vinyasa flow, my friend does Bikram and neither of us really knew what this class was. Worst $30 one a class pass ever.

Where do I begin? I can't say enough wonderful things on the impact that this class (Level 1) has…read morehad on my life. It is a 12 week course where Andrew carefully helps build the foundation that you'll use to explore meditation and the tools you will use to calm the mind and find peace and answers from within. If you are committed (at least practice 4-5 times a week and finish the course) and you have an open mind, you will absolutely feel and see the positive impact that meditation has had on your life through this 12 week course. Andrew does an incredible job of teaching everyone the building blocks they need. He is not pushy in the sense that one way is better than the other. He is open to all experiences, whatever works for you. He is non-judging and very encouraging when you do have those break throughs. I can't speak more highly of his teaching ability, the class and meditation as a whole. I have now signed up for the Level 2 course as I have only scratched the surface of this awesome journey and can't wait to see where the next lessons take me. If you are looking to get into meditation, look no further. Even my husband has seen how much calmer and more peaceful I am :)

I am about to wrap up the Level 1 12-week meditation course and I can't say enough positive things!…read more I was a total non-believer in meditation, I didn't think I could do it, and I thought it wasn't "for me." I was one of those people who really struggled to sit still and clear my mind. Andrew has a great method for teaching beginners the ins and outs of meditation with a lesson each week followed by a practice guided meditation. I personally loved the philosophy which did NOT involve emptying the mind and breathing and/or chanting. The course is VERY real-world relevant. We learned how to access thoughts and feelings (and telling the difference between them), how to have internal dialogue to find out why we feel the way we do, how to focus on thinking about only what we *want* to think about and how to get into the meditation zone, which becomes easier with practice and helps if you set aside time every day and set up a special space for it. His goal is for us to build the habit into our daily lives. There is also a very nice guided visualization exercise that we do to help prepare us psychologically for any future activity. I have seen real benefits from taking the course, I had insights I would not have otherwise had, I've learned to release my muscle tension and I've learned a lot about myself - both a greater daily awareness of how I feel, and understanding of why. I highly recommend this course to anyone who needs to sort through life issues and get to the root of things. Because of this course, meditation is not scary anymore. Also, Andrew is a really nice guy on top of it. Their studio has a lot of other things going on too, like yoga and workshops on specific topics and I look forward to coming back to the studio to try some of those things out in the future. http://meditatecenter.com/classes/level-1-meditation-12-week-series-classes-chicago-lincoln-square-lakeview/

This was under the bus shed near the Visitor's Center, which was a great location, especially since we had nice weather. It didn't rain, but we had shelter just in case (some of the park events have been rained ut). Another reason the Visitor's Center was a great location for YogaPop was the parking garage directly across the street- very convenient. I thought Kathryn Buddig did a good job with the class. I do yoga each week, and while I'm not advanced, I've been practicing a few years and know the basics. I took a friend with me who was new to yoga and she was able to do everything, modifying some poses as she needed to. With hundreds of people, some other yoga teachers also walked around and offered alternate poses or helped you (unless you didn't want to be helped in which you could say no). Along with the yoga, a number of vendors were there- everything from juice, salads, and sliders to beer and wine and also yoga items like t-shirts. The only downside was that I felt like the ticket price was a little expensive.

The vendors at the event were a wonderful selection of vendors that kept me shopping until 9:30. The one thing I'd suggest is having a food and drink option at both ends of the bus shed. I was starving and thirsty (for wine) and had to backtrack to get them. I think everyone should do this event if you have the slightest interest in yoga. This will be on my calendar next year.

I started turning down all the external noise and listening to my internal voice. I found myself thinking of dreams long ago put on a shelf and taking action. I was able to clearly see where I needed to draw boundaries and put them in place in a calm self affirming manner. I was able to prioritize what is important in my life and take action to make that happen. The owner, Gillian was very professional and easy to work with and very accommodating (we had to switch from Saturday to Friday a few weeks prior to the event). It was fairly easy to book and better yet, affordable and worth it. Laurie was our instructor for the day and she was great! She brought us all mats, rose, and even a cold towel at the end! We originally set up outside, but there were a lot of bugs so she was so understanding and helped to get us set up inside. We even had a bridesmaid FaceTime in because she could not make the trip. She made sure we got the full time for our workout and adjusted it based on our needs. She made sure to get cute photos and videos for us as too. I'm very happy with this experience and would recommend it for any groups! Next time, I'd love to do it at the beach!
