Signed up on ClassPass! First class is also free regardless

I went to a couple pop ups for barre3 around town at breweries and I liked it enough to go to the studio! They offer a first workout for free and I signed up via ClassPass. I parked in a residential area so I did not have to pay for parking. There's a couple of parking garages nearby and meters on King as well. It's a little tricky to find the actual studio. The studio is above the West Elm store and you have to go down an alley. There are signs to help out. You go up the stairs and around the corner and you will see the studio. I had to sign a waiver upon arrival and I would get there a few minutes early, because they do charge for no shows. Barre3 is a whole body workout that focuses on small movements. Even though you exercise the entire body, I feel it mostly focuses on the legs. There are also elements of core, arms, and cardio. The instructors are really friendly and encouraging and they play upbeat music. I really enjoy the stretching and breath work at the end. It's super relaxing and a great way to start the day. I will be back!

    So much equipment!

I took my first class this morning - I was almost late and came running in, "am I too late?" Nope said Jen, owner & barre instructor & proceeded to help me get set up. The 915 am Fri class was packed , but enough room for all, I have taken barre classes for over a year but wasn't familiar with all of the exercises but with the help of the girls next to me and some sweet correcting from Jen, I got a great workout, Honestly, I expected it to be easier than what I am used to but soon realized that the hard work was dependent on how deeply I focused & not just the class. Harder to focus when you are trying to figure out where to put your hands but I bet after a couple more classes, I will be in the Barre zone. If you live or are visiting near downtown Charleston, I highly recommend this fun studio. The only downsides to me was how crowded it was (good for them!) BUT I am spoiled by the more intimate studio I use in ATL. All in all, a good experience.

After five years and multiple tightening of restrictions, I'm throwing in the towel. Annoyed that I have to pay cancellation fee too.

The instructor was really nice and it was easy to follow. This was one of the most challenging workouts I've done in a long time! My only complaint is that i wish it was more affordable but you get what you pay for here. Super clean gym, they have a parking lot and hand towels. Loved it!

I love HyLo for the showers alone. The women's shower is a full room, with marble walls, and all the accoutrements you'd need--soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, towels, and even a scale. My only complaint is that they don't have makeup remover or any hair products in the bathroom when I'm getting ready after my workout, but I just bring what I need from home. The HY classes really work you in the cardio department. They all use a combination of spin bikes, rowing machines, free weights / kettlebells, ropes, TRX things (idk what they're called), and body weight to perform a lot of exercises in a short period of time with a lot of energy. Similar to what I assume some crossfit classes include. The LO classes use a special board to use your body weight and weighted poles or rubber bands to strengthen your body using your own body weight. This is most similar to pilates, barre, or yoga. All of which I'm terrible at, as I have the upper body strength of a newborn baby. Both classes totally kick my butt and make me feel like I've really worked my body hard! Highly recommend!

The Pure Barre studio itself is fairly small but welcoming. You don't have to arrive super early to set up equipment or stations, and most people walk in shortly before class time. There's one bathroom in the back, along with cubbies for your phone and personal items. For the class, bring a water bottle and sticky socks- if you don't own a pair, you can buy them in-house. Tip: The socks are one of the least expensive Pure Barre branded items you can buy. My first class was with an instructor named Kelsey. We talked a bit before class and she demonstrated a few signature moves for me, like tucking (oh, the infamous tucking!). I've since taken classes with a few instructors, and every one is very positive during class, even encouraging students by name. They also offer adjustments and alternative exercises if you're struggling with an injury or setback. Pure Barre is a solid workout. Even coming from a fitness background, the core section helped me discover muscles I didn't know existed- especially the next day. I used the 2lb weights in the first class to learn the moves, but quickly moved up to the 3lb ones. Larger weights are offered, but never underestimate how tough pulsing small weights can be. Start small until you understand the moves. If you're active in another sport, Pure Barre is a great cross training activity to exercise other muscles, like stabilizing core, thigh, and glute muscles that may not get as much attention from running or other cardio. I also like that class is exactly 50 minutes and you don't leave drenched in sweat. The class isn't heated, so you can run errands or go to Whole Foods next door without having to change clothes or dripping sweat all over your car seats. Classes are even offered around noon, and if I worked in the area, I could see myself doing that as a lunch-break workout.
