The Pure Barre studio itself is fairly small but welcoming. You don't have to arrive super early to set up equipment or stations, and most people walk in shortly before class time. There's one bathroom in the back, along with cubbies for your phone and personal items. For the class, bring a water bottle and sticky socks- if you don't own a pair, you can buy them in-house. Tip: The socks are one of the least expensive Pure Barre branded items you can buy. My first class was with an instructor named Kelsey. We talked a bit before class and she demonstrated a few signature moves for me, like tucking (oh, the infamous tucking!). I've since taken classes with a few instructors, and every one is very positive during class, even encouraging students by name. They also offer adjustments and alternative exercises if you're struggling with an injury or setback. Pure Barre is a solid workout. Even coming from a fitness background, the core section helped me discover muscles I didn't know existed- especially the next day. I used the 2lb weights in the first class to learn the moves, but quickly moved up to the 3lb ones. Larger weights are offered, but never underestimate how tough pulsing small weights can be. Start small until you understand the moves. If you're active in another sport, Pure Barre is a great cross training activity to exercise other muscles, like stabilizing core, thigh, and glute muscles that may not get as much attention from running or other cardio. I also like that class is exactly 50 minutes and you don't leave drenched in sweat. The class isn't heated, so you can run errands or go to Whole Foods next door without having to change clothes or dripping sweat all over your car seats. Classes are even offered around noon, and if I worked in the area, I could see myself doing that as a lunch-break workout.

The classes here are similar to the South Mt. Pleasant Pure Barre by Whole Foods. However, this location features class times like 5:15 AM for those who wake up early (or can't sleep). There's also a 6:15 PM class many afternoons, which is convenient for those who prefer to exercise after work. Pure Barre classes are a great experience. Instructors greet you by name and encourage you during the class. The workouts are tough, but by the end, you feel accomplished and proud- and the next day, you'll feel SORE. It's a very positive environment, as exercise should be. One of my favorite things about Pure Barre is that you don't get super sweaty during the workouts, so you can run errands or grab a bite afterwards. You sweat some, but you won't have to put down towels on the car seats to drive home. Parking is plentiful and easy in the shopping center, and you're super close to stores like Walmart and post-workout snacks (Tropical Smoothie, East Bay Deli, Starbucks). If you're looking to shake up your workout routine and add an air conditioned option in the summer heat, I'd definitely recommend Pure Barre.

I wondered if it was just me that thought it was a killer class, but once back in the ladies' locker room was reassured when even long time members felt the same! Sam was great and tough- she speaks a LOT faster than I am used to at home, but the moves were 99% familiar to me now, after six months (vs only a month when I was here last), though with some variations on things like Tree pose that I have in all classes at home. Sam had the same personal/name using touch that Ann Lane did last year (I was sad that she wasn't on the schedule but hope she is well and still teaching somewhere!). Much appreciated as an infrequent flyer. Still $20 a class and still more than worth it. I am coming off a back injury so I may do another 90 or possibly a Bikram 75 before we leave tomorrow night...being in class is really when my back feels its best! Definitely a super studio.

They last 45 minutes and have classes throughout the week in the mornings and evenings. They provide props, sanitizer wipes and spray, and lavender towels after workouts for use.

Harder to focus when you are trying to figure out where to put your hands but I bet after a couple more classes, I will be in the Barre zone. You definitely get a workout and sweat but each of the routines allows for a low-impact version so anyone can participate and still feel accomplished.
