The classes are mostly one hour, but a couple are a little bit longer, and you will definitely feel like you got a good workout. Most of the moves are pretty traditional yoga poses and you can look around at your neighbors if you're not sure what to do. Where the challenge comes in is that the temperature is about 90 while you workout, hence the sweat. But it seriously feels so good. Virginia is an amazing instructor and I really appreciate her emphasis on going at your own pace and ability. If you are looking for something different to mix up your workout routine, or ate just looking for an awesome yoga class, I definitely recommend Charleston Power Yoga.

The slightly snippy gent at the front desk pointed to the cooler where I could buy water and said they take cards. What? I found the tiny bathroom in the back and filled my bottle with tap water, TYVM. As the same friendly gent at the mat next to me said "I'd neve thought about it but as a visitor that would make me mad too." Excellent teacher, underwhelming basics at the studio, won't return.

Weights, bike, weights, rower. At each station for 9 minutes. The class felt shorter than 45 mins and i definitely worked. I recommend this place for people who are short on time and want to make the most of their 45 minute workout. Males and females working out. Stopped by the second floor to check out where they do hot yoga. Would definitely give that class a try. I recommend this place for people who already workout. I wondered if it was just me that thought it was a killer class, but once back in the ladies' locker room was reassured when even long time members felt the same! Sam was great and tough- she speaks a LOT faster than I am used to at home, but the moves were 99% familiar to me now, after six months (vs only a month when I was here last), though with some variations on things like Tree pose that I have in all classes at home. Sam had the same personal/name using touch that Ann Lane did last year (I was sad that she wasn't on the schedule but hope she is well and still teaching somewhere!). Much appreciated as an infrequent flyer. Still $20 a class and still more than worth it. I am coming off a back injury so I may do another 90 or possibly a Bikram 75 before we leave tomorrow night...being in class is really when my back feels its best! Definitely a super studio.

There is a definitely a sense of community and support. They push you hard- I get a way better full body workout here then I have at other barre studios. I love this and feel I get my money's worth/ especially if I'm taking a full 60 minute class versus the 50 minute express. On Tuesday afternoons Catherine teaches a Cardio Barre class and you do bursts of HITT workouts in addition to regular barre routines. Think jumping jacks, burpees, etc. It is a great way to get in some cardio and switch things up. The first class you try at Barre South is free and then. I always leave feeling like I really worked out my whole body and I am ALWAYS sore the next few days, but it's a good feeling because I know I worked hard in Emily's class! I also highly recommend their assisted deep stretch class. It's very relaxing and it feels so good to stretch and take your mind off of everything going on. The studio spaces are always clean and well taken care of. There's only been a couple times where a class was really crowded, but we always make it work!

All that could have been ok if the class had been ... enjoyable enough to do. Why did the teacher have a headpiece for screaming instructions, when there is no way the room wouldn't be covered just fine by her voice. I tried for about fifteen minutes, trying to follow her sometimes muted screaming by looking around me. I gave up and went to the front desk where they kindly said this was normal and offered me a cup of earplugs to pick from. I took them and used them for about three minutes when I gave up. The place purposefully makes it so loud that they have odes of earplugs in a cute little jar on the counter. That's just messed up. I usually do vinyasa flow, my friend does Bikram and neither of us really knew what this class was. Worst $30 one a class pass ever.

She does a great job of creating a heated room with incense burning to help create a good "vibe" and atmosphere. I have taken many yoga "sculpt" type classes - but this was by far the best I have ever done. All of the movements made sense in the natural movement of our body - while incorporating yoga poses and cardio HIIT. I wish I could have gotten to the Charleston studio to try another class! It was so great and also a perfect way to start out the week. Perfect for all levels, as she provides modifications throughout class.
