I have been a Coast Gas Amerigas customer for over 40 years. I can no longer speak with Carol, Andrea, or any other local person. The person in the Philippines, India, or wherever, does not regard me as an "authorized user," even though the checks that I write with my signature, address, etc. are regularly cashed. My deceased husband is the only "authorized user." For 5-6 years or more, I have been told that I need a new tank. The work order can be found in Amerigas files I have agreed to the exchange, but the tank has not arrived. I was just billed twice in one month for (different amounts) for a single delivery. The tank is kept full, which I appreciate, but the customer service, in my situation, has been non-existent. I'm shopping for a new propane company. read more

they are the rudest people ever especially the woman that's working right now. Ask a simple question. You get a rude answer. No customer service skills. I'm surprised she's kept the job. Spend your money where you get good customer service. I wouldn't shop here again if they paid me to take their gas. Customer service is not their strong point business gas station has gone downhill recently. It must've sold because previously the customer service was great. the three women working today January 22 at 2:30 leave a lot to be desired read more

Coast Gas is now Amerigas and the change has been positive. Two me just arrived at my home and pulled the old tanks left behind by Coast Gas since January. They were funny, polite and took great care to make sure the irrigation pipes were not damaged when they moved a tank across them. While one guy was working the truck, the other guy started stacking up some bricks that were in the area just because he saw it needed to be done and he didn't want to just stand there doing nothing. Charles and Eric (or Erik) were just wonderful. Great customer service. I'm glad that Amerigas has taken over Coast. I have also heard that Andrea is now gone. She was the one at Coast who was so mean spirited on the phone. I'm going to cross post this in the Amerigas area as well as really that's the company now. read more

I ended service the month my tank rental was due, but they collected anyway. They gave it back when I complained, but thought better of it later and charged my credit card a second time. I complained to my credit card company, they thought about it and then said I had received my refund from the charge already. After pointing out I had been charged two tank rentals when none was due led them to say "Well, now, too much time has passed and Coast refuses to refund the money to your account, but they will send a check within 60 days." and proceeded to charge me two months' interest ($30.00). (I pay it off every month, disputed charges excepted.) It is now 120 days later and no check. Coast Gas is not trustworthy. They owe me $65 plus $30, or $95.00. This Thursday, Jan 9, 2014, we go to court over the charge plus all costs. Well, no we don't. They blinked and sent a check for the full amount. They also gave a sincere sounding apology, but that does not shed much light on why it would take 13 months to do the right thing. read more

they are rude, never return phone calls and seem to have some ass backwards way of doing things. I have been waiting for almost 4 months for a refund from them. No one will return my calls, even when I've left messages for managers. Andrea is nasty and I have a hard time believing she knows the meaning of customer service. read more

When we bought our house there was a tank from Coast gas here so we set up service with them. They were not the cheapest but they seemed willing to work a little with us at first. We were on the auto-fill program where they would come and fill when they were in the neighborhood. The problems started when we went on will-call, which is where you call them when you tank is getting lower than 30%. We did this because gas prices were higher with coast than other companies and we were eventually going to change once we related our gas line and found a new site for the tank. When we called in about the tank running low the first time they couldn't tell us when the guy would be out to refill. They only said that it would be within 10 business days. You could call back in five days to see if they had an idea and they wouldn't. "Seriously, you can't even narrow down the time to a few days? Nope, and if your tank goes empty in the mean time, you will have to pay a $125 line check fee. You should have called sooner." In my opinion a service company should provide great service. They won't work with you. We had several other issues like this. We eventually changed to Mountain Propane. When we call with an issue, they are out that day or the next. It's a "night and day" difference between the companies. If you are on autofill and don't mind paying a little higher prices, then Coast gas is fine. But dealing with the company on any other level is unpleasing. read more

In this economy you would think a company would actually care about it's business...but I guess Coast Gas thinks they are above all that. EVERY REVIEW LISTED HERE IS TOTALLY ACCURATE!! Had no problems for nearly a year and a half...and now suddenly my name has been selected to SCREW with. Placed 3 calls for a Propane delivery. All were ignored. Talked to MIKE, the "district manager" What a Freakin JERK this guy is. Can only imagine what his employees think of him because he could give a RATS A$$ if he kept our business or not. Concern was over truck access. However, no problems for over 18 months, so now why the sudden concern??? When I asked him this he just became belligerent and said he was going to come up and "look" for himself...and then cut me off if he didn't like it...but of course he never did. Just ignored me as my tank bleeds toward zero. When I told him they would be liable for an out of gas situation, he scoffed at me. Then I knew this idiot would be happier putting his company into the tank rather than service a customer. The guy shouldn't be a manager of anything. Called Corporate to complain. no response. REALLY??? OK guys...hope you become another failed statistic...I'll be laughing when you do. Drivers great...but they should all run and work somewhere else as soon as possible. Front desk...great...the rest of the staff...TOTALLY RUDE...hey ...maybe they all worked for the pathetic BAD ASS coffee before it went out of business. I for one will be pursuing complaints with the BBB and the PUC. STAY AWAY!!!! If you don't, then Im sure you will be the next 1 star review to post here!! read more

I moved into a house that had a Coast Gas tank already on the property, so we just started using them. That was eight years ago. They are supposed to check when our tank is low and fill it as necessary. They have repeatedly failed to fill when we were running low. This has happened so many times, I have lost count. When the tank runs low a bad smell creeps into the house (it smells like something died). I have frequently spent days thinking I had a dead mouse in the wall when it was really just a low propane tank. When I have called the company, I have gotten the message machine and often no one calls back. My neighbor got so sick of Coast Gas that they decided to switch companies. Coast Gas told them they would charge them an outrageous amount of money to come remove the tank. The neighbor threatened to push it into the road. I don't know how the situation resolved. I would really love a recommendation of a good company that services the Felton (Zayante) area. read more

It's a shame there is not something lower than 1 star. This is the worst company I've ever dealt with in my life. They have poor equipment that always fails. I've gone through at least a full tank because of their crappy regulators, with not so much as an apology...it failed completely on Thanksgiving day. They also red tagged my tank during a refill and found out that their test equipment was faulty...again, no apology, let alone compensation. Gas was out 3 days before someone said, hey our equipment was bad. Avoid this company at all costs. They are thieves and will rob you blind. Worst customer service ever too. I'll move to another state before dealing with them ever again. read more

I have to agree about the MIke guy. Called him 2x and he never returned my phone call. Remember the saying customers come first. They are your bread and butter and if service is good your buis will grow from referrals. I have not had bad service and always get a fill when I call for one. When we got service from these folks they gave us an old refurbished tank that is questionable. It may be time to find another service provider as Management (MIke) probably needs to go and find a new job at Burger King read more

I had auto-fill w/ Coast gas, but they failed to come out and fill up my tank, so my propane appliances didn't work. Also, my home office fireplace/propane heater, which has a pilot light, went out. When the technician tried to relight it, he couldn't, but did damage to the mechanisms so that I had to pay several hundred dollars to have it repaired. Coast refused to pay for any of it, despite the fireplace repair person's written statement. I changed companies because of this, and am now getting great service with Dassel for almost 50 cents a gallon less than I paid Coast! read more

We are reenters in Aptos. We have nver had propane before. We have to deal with them. Not a year goes by that we don't sit in the cold waiting for Amerigas to deliver, only to have them say "stay home it's coming" for 3, 5, or even 7 days. I would advise anyone considering AmeriGas to go WELL out of their way to find any other service. read more

I don't understand why there are so many lousy reviews on here. I've been polite with them, they are polite right back. I always get my tank refilled in a timely manner. Pricing and fees are SIGNIFICANTLY higher than competitors such as Ferrell Gas. We switched and began an odyssey of inconvenience in getting their tank off of our property. I called to have them remove the tank in October. No one scheduled anything; apparently the first move on their part in this situation is to switch your account to "will call". So, I called again on Dec 30th. They agreed to remove it and created a work order. I called again today (2/12) and asked why it had not been completed. The rep said that something ("an emergency") must have come up and that it would need to be rescheduled. Not notification or apology. I threatened to charge them back-rent for leaving it on my property the months it has sat there (no supports under it, leaning sideways where my kids play) and using up my space. They said that they wouldn't charge me tank rental and I said they couldn't do that anyway because I had asked them to remove it already 3 times. She promised to try to have it removed and off the property by 2/14. I'm looking forward to the extra income/court date. Bottom line? DON'T USE AMERIGAS IF YOU HAVE ALTERNATIVES. (If I could bold and underline this line, I would have.) Doesn't even deserve 1 star... read more

The staff is rude rude rude! Never use them, I was moving and I told them weeks before not to fill me. Guess what they filled me anyway and mailed me the bill when in the 10 years I have been using them they leave the bill on the door. Never again, Go to Surburban propane service Is good read more

I took tenancy of a brand new, never-lived in property serviced by Coast Gas on 12/1/09, and was just sent the bill for the first tank fill ($399.72) for 12.5 gallons (seems ridiculously expensive) by the owner right before the holidays. I was out of town for two weeks, and was shocked to learn for the first time when I called today, back in town and ready to set up my own account, that I am being extorted by Coast Gas for an additional $50. They claim that because I did not call to set up the account in my own name within 30 days, they are charging me $50, and that it's "not their fault" I did not know this. The fact is that I was never informed that I would be charged this fee if I called in to create a new account 30 days after taking tenancy. I took tenancy on 12/1, and called in on 1/8 - which is 7 days "late". I have now spoken with two reps at Coast gas, Andrea being the latest, and have asked that this $50 be waived because I was not informed of this policy. I asked that they do this as a gesture of good faith, as I am an honest customer setting up a brand new account, and I am just trying to pay my first bill - but this starts the relationship off with a very, very poor taste in my mouth about how Coast Gas runs its business - not to mention its level of customer service. read more

There should be a case study published on how NOT to do business and it should begin with this company...Coast is hands down, the worst company and I hate dealing with them. There used to be a great guy working there whose name was Tony who was always such a pleasure to deal with. He left and without having that kind of great service, this company is basically "we'll take your money, and screw you with bad service because we can get away with it. Oh and we promise to throw in girls who answer the phone and give you attitude just for good measure!" Hands down the worst...stay away...call anyone else...They don't deserve your money. read more

I have been with Coast Gas for 19 years and have never had a problem, when we used more gas than we had anticipated, we called and they ask what my percentage was and scheduled accordingly, when we did run out 1 time in 19 years because we didn't check the guage, they gave us $50 in free gas. Coast has been acquired by Amerigas and they've brought a corporate mentality to their customer service. If you love AT&T and the big banks you're going to love this place... Recently I returned from international travel to find the tank at my residence running low. Not a problem, or so I thought. I placed a call and it was straight to voice mail hell. Since this was rather urgent I decided to hold, 32 minutes later someone finally picked up the phone. I purchased a tank of gas, explained the situation and asked when I could expect service. Their rep told me that they don't have that information, but that they would pass it along to the service department. several days go by and the gauge is getting lower and lower, I decide to call back and explain the urgency. This time it was 30 minutes on hold. Again I explained the situation to a different rep and again they said that they would have to contract the service department, This time I requested they do so and inform me when the service would take place. In the end they told me I could expect it in the next 1-10 days. That's actually not a typo, They said 1 to 10 days. The whole situation was surreal, It was like dealing with AT&T or one of the other most hated big companies in America. However here the solution was painless, I called a local company (Dassel's) arranged for them to provide a tank and service it regularly. They picked up the phone immediately, set me up with the required paperwork and They were less expensive to boot! Then I called Coast (Amerigas) back to cancel the outstanding order, cancel the account and arrange for them to pick up their tank. They wanted to know why! Don't even think of doing business with them! Call a local company and deal with someone who gives a damn.... read more

After reading reviews online, I was dubious to do business with this company. I am a current renter in Boulder Creek and did not even know that I needed propane until I ran out. The first call was very uneventful the lady that helped me was not helpful at all and told me to call back with my tanks serial number. However when I called back the next morning I spoke with a woman named Carol and she was quite helpful she got me buttoned up and had an appointment for me in two days after spending 20 minutes with her on the phone, she was concise courteous and very helpful. Going forward it seems this company has their customers best interest in mind, make sure you speak with Carol! Keep up the good work miss :) read more

This company gouged us for $1300 in just 6-8 weeks by "topping us off" every 2-3 weeks while the price was the highest it's been and the weather was cold, whether we needed it or not. I won't even go into their forgotten deliveries when prices were lower (we went empty on Easter for God's sake) the messed up bills, never knowing if they would leave a bill or mail a bill and if they mailed it, when you would get it. Called Dassels ( http://www.dassels.com/propane/residential-propane/ ) found out that they were charging $1.50 LESS a gallon, with no other "delivery fees" or "regulatory fees" and I'm gone. Coast needs to learn, you can't charge that much AND have the worst customer service on the face of the planet AND gouge your customers with petty fees AND screw up your billing in your favor on a regular basis AND then expect to keep customers. read more

Please I am urging you not to go with Coast Gas if you can help it! Some reviews are mean and they are from customers who don't get freebies or dont want to pay for the service. This is not the case. I work full time, own my own home and have NEVER not paid my bill, infact I try to overpay when I can. I chose one star because it seems as though I needed to. In my opinion Coast Gas deserves none. I have been with them for about 4 years now and like others all was fine until about year 2. Luckily I do not deplete the gas in a months time frame so only have to deal with them every other month. For months I had been requesting my bill due dates. Ofcourse I could never get a strait answer or anactual date. I ran in to trouble right around Christmas when I ran out of gas and they would not deliver to me for around 3-4 days. The list goes on and on, we had a gas leak that they came out to check tried to charge me for it, stated there was nothing wrong but "fixed some wiring" just because they felt like being nice. I don't think so. The last straw was today for me. I recently sold my home and called them to find the proper procedures I needed to take when discontinuing service. They stated that all I needed to do was call 2 weeks prior. Which I did, we discussed deposit on the account going towards the "pick up fee" which I think its ridiculous. I told her the day that I would pay my final bill (which is still on time) and that I no longer required service after March 1st 2011. At this point I am still at 50 percent full. I come home from work to step into an ice cold shower. When I I walk outside to check the tank, it is gone!!! They literally came today and picked up the tank! No phone calls, just walked into my yard and took the entire tank! When I called them they said they could bring it back to me tomorrow morning but that I have to be home. I have 4 children and no hot water. I'm sorry but neither I or my children are going to go without showers OR take a rag bath! Please explain to me why I would have to take a day off from work without a window time frame so that they can re-deliver the tank they took when I wasn't home??? Forget it, I can go on and on just don't make the mistake of using this company if you can help it! FYI our drivers are nice to us, and our dogs but they don't make the rules. All I can say is: my experience is 100% with the rest of you. They double-billed me, then immediately threatened my credit rating if I didn't pay off. Obnoxious and unhelpful on the phone, and always forcing you to top up with some kind of huge surcharges for anything less than a fill up. Imagine if gas stations operated like that! They let months go by without coming around. Once they had to come out to fill my next door neighbors tank because they had run out of gas. They are rude, overpriced, totally inflexible, and will literally risk your home and health before they do anything to help you. I was sitting in a house with three very significant gas leaks that their inspection just a few short days before had not detected, suffering from massive headaches and a near inability to walk due to propane poisoning, and they refused to send out a technician until I sat on the phone screaming at them for ten minutes straight. Even then I couldn't get help until the next day, and they wouldn't even take the leaked propane off my bill. It's a miracle my house didn't blow up and that I didn't suffocate. Run away. I have been a Coast Gas customer for thirty years. For most of that time it was a very responsive, local business, but several years ago something changed. They got bought out, and as others have written on this site, they have turned into fascists. Their drivers are wonderful, and when it is mentioned to them that the home office and the Manager, Mike, seem to have no clue about customer service, they apologize for the company and roll their eyes in agreement. If I were teaching a class on customer relations, I would use Coast Gas as the negative example -- the way NOT to do things. I had a situation where they were going to charge an exorbitant fee because I was not using enough gas. The only recourse they left me with was to OPEN THE VALVE AND LET GAS ESCAPE so that I could get the tank empty enough to warrant a delivery and thus avoid several hundred $ of penalties. I have never written a Yelp review before, but here I am because I think the world should know about Coast Gas. Go to Dassell, most anybody, but stay away from Coast Gas. I'm so angry at them that I've been known to give the business the finger when I drive by, even though I know nobody will see me because they're up on the top of the hill in the trees. Flipping them off makes ME feel good, anyway. The drivers are real hardworking guys -- very pleasant. The people working in the main office are the worst. Shop Local and stay away from Coast Gas. read more

OMG, they are the WORST. Their customer service is disgusting! They are rude, they lie and they NEVER return phone calls. They lost a 17year customer! After waiting 6 weeks for delivery (said truck access was the problem - gee 17 years NO PROBLEM before) I finally got angry with them on the phone. Mike, the rudest manager I have never met, came up and declared our road was too dangerous and said we would not be getting further deliveries (yelling the whole time, BTW). I called Suburban Propane and they installed a new tank the very next week! It took Coast 4 calls and 2 months to pick up their tank. read more

We've used them for about 8 months. After reading all the reviews here, I'm scared we'll eventually have a bad experience. BUT, so far, they've been great. Really nice folks who deliver propane (except 1 very grumpy, but hey, I might be grumpy too driving that big old truck around...) We've had a couple very minor gas leaks. They showed when they said they would, were very nice, and seem to have fixed it. So far so good... read more

Yes, Coast Gas service has definitely declined in the past couple of years. Today was the third time that my tank ran out. Apparently, they changed the way that they monitor the tanks, because this didn't happen in the past. From now on, I'll just give them a call when the tank gets down to half full. However, aside from that, the person who answered the phone was apologetic and sent a driver over the same morning. Paul, a new driver for this area, was very professional and courteous. read more

I'm looking forward to continued good service and people who work with you. I love the budget pay system. October 4, 2014 To Amerigas and A.R.M.: To Whom it may Concern: I received a letter from ARM dated September 18, 2014-received September 25th concerning an outstanding debt of $212.72. As I have had no correspondence or no phone call either, during 2014, other than when I called Amerigas in February, 2014 to pick up their tank due to the fact that I have tenants that will be using a Surburban tank/service beginning February 21, 2014. After speaking with my tenant, he informed me, that Amerigas has not picked up their tank as of today! I did call on Saturday, September 27th and left messages for both Amerigas and ARM. I received a call from Amerigas on Wednesday morning, October 1st. and returned the call at 3:10PM the same day----After a 20+ minute conversation, I still had not been given a response to why my statement reflected a zero balance-but yet had received this collection agency statement. At this point, I can only assume? That since Amerigas neglected to pick up their tank-of which it is quite obvious that no delivery of gas has been made since their delivery of Fall, 2013 when they allowed my tank to run-out of gas and I had no hot water/heat for five days due to their inability to decide who should be servicing my tank: San Jose or Watsonville??, that this is a tank rental fee being charged to my account? I am feeling extremely harassed at this point-I have been an excellent customer in keeping my account paid in full upon every billing statement. Please come and pick up your tank Amerigas and inform ARM Solutions,Inc. to take this active collection file off the books immediately as I do not expect to see this reflected on my credit report. If this matter is not resolved by sending me a letter that shows it is resolved within thirty days of receiving this letter, I will take this matter up with my lawyer! Waiting to hear from you on the final statement of zero balance/no delinquent account. Thank you, Susan read more

I agree with most of the other negative reviews. We finally switched companies a few months ago and asked them to remove their tank which is sitting in our driveway, but as of today they have failed to come even after reminding them. The driver was always very nice but dealing the their office personnel was a real trial. What made us finally change was the price--much, much higher than the company we went with. Since Amerigas took over, their delivery ticket does not tell you how much the propane costs which is a change from before. So it is not until an invoice arrives that the price is known and it has always been much higher per gal. than our current supplier. Larry O. read more
