"With the exception that we don't accept AMEX, we're perfect in every way", boasts the Simpons-Comic-Guy-esk owner. And I must agree. Coast City Comics is pretty amazing. During my visit, several of my fondest childhood memories flooded back as I perused an extensive collection of authentic old school toys, video game cartridges, a small but sufficient pinball arcade, comic books, and lots of other relics that I hadn't seen or heard about in decades. Coast City Comics is a must-visit when in the Portland area. It's like an museum of awesome, where everything is for sale. At a minimum, stop by to get the feels and to pick up a sweet Coast City Comics t-shirt (like I did) for $15. But if you have a single collector-bone in your body, I dare you to walk out empty handed!

The retro toys and pinball machines alone are worth a visit. You'll find He-Man, Ninja Turtles, M.U.S.C.L.E. Men, and other toys of yore that will make evoke an, "OMG, I remember those!" Happily, they're pretty darn affordable, so you can add some to your collection (or just impulse buy for no good reason) if you like. The whole back section of the store is filled with pinball machines. I don't really play, but it's very cool. The place has a pleasantly cluttered and slightly dirty feel, which works with the somewhat vintage vibe they have going. The staff will strike up a conversation with you about all things nerdy, if you want, and they're helpful and knowledgeable of their inventory. The comics selection is fine and dandy, just as you'd hope. I enjoy spending time in this place, and if you like comics, toys, the 80s, pinball, or things of that nature, I bet you will too.

Shitwizard!!! (Aka, that one teacher at Hogwarts that nobody talks about)

If you are a book lover and looking to get lost in browsing for a few hours this may be the spot to…read morecheck out. While my wife and I did not find anything to buy it was worth checking out. They definitely seem to lean more towards history/war/military and older books. If you are a fan of those types of books you could find a lot of hidden gems I am sure. There is a little bit of a musty smell due to a combination of the old books and lack of airflow in the older building. Also beware space is limited so be ready for for changing directions or getting out of the way if other patrons are nearby. Shelves upon shelves of books with some taped to papers letting you know the section you are in. While it does have some order in this sense at the same time it's chaotic mainly due to crammed space. Can't really speak to value all that much as I did not see the prices for many books and honestly I would not have a good sense of the actual value of the books either. As I said a must visit for book lovers in or visiting Portland to lose yourself while browsing. You can tell a lot of time and effort went into building this collection of books! The one star deduction is solely due to the largest portions of their books are just genres I generally don't have any interest in. I do appreciate it for what it is though and would recommend it.

Renys Department Store DowntownPortland This store is unique…read morein that I believe it has something for everyone. Sure it's in an old building but it's clean inside and everything is neatly arranged. I thought prices were very reasonable on most items. They have Mens, Womens, Kids Cloths, Shoes, Kitchen Accessories, Household Goods, Hardware, Carpets, Medicine, Cleaning Supplies, Maine Made products, Toys,Outdoor Camping Equipment, Souvenirs, Post Cards, Candy and some Food just to name a few. See something for everyone. The people that work there were friendly and courteous to boot.I loved this store and wished we had some back in Florida. I give this store 4 out of 5 stars. All great items for camping or for your home at great prices. I had asked if they had a bathroom, and they said no. And later as I'm walking around, I notice all the business say no bathroom on the outside of their door. Not even if you're a customer. A lot of homelessness that has made it difficult for paying customers to use the bathrooms. It's sad, cause I had done hours of walking around Old Port and Portland area, and there's no place to go to the bathroom. Times have changed
