Used vehicle purchased on 12/26/25 & have 3 issues ON SAME DAY drive home: engine, tire, and electronic. *Jason Miller informed me that they won't cover the repairs* I had been searching for the "right" Expedition for my family of 7 and came across several options. I chose the one at Coad Toyota based on the listed vehicle description, transparency of John (sales rep), and reputation of the dealership. This was to be a Merry Christmas present for our family! I flew down from Minneapolis and had a walk through of the vehicle. There were no issues with the vehicle, that I could see. I fully understand that a used vehicle is sold as-is, and based on the dealership reputation, I trusted the vehicle to be in perfect working condition based on their "Why buy at Coad" promise. I paid cash and drove back to Minneapolis. After leaving the dealership with my Expedition, I noticed 3 issues ON THAT SAME DAY: the brand new installed tires were the incorrect size, the engine began making a weird rattle and ticking noise (video attached), and the rear seat video screens were not working. Having come across these issues on the same day as purchased, I let my salesmen know and trusted all would be resolved. John took note of the issues and promised to work towards a resolution. The sales manager, Nicholas, confirmed that the wrong tires were installed (245 width instead of 285 width) and sent a check to cover the cost of replacement tires (Great!). Next up was the engine issue that literally started THE SAME DAY that I purchased the vehicle. I sent the video, paid to have a local Minneapolis Ford dealer inspect, and sent the findings (VCT Cam Phaser needs to be replaced). Nicholas reached back out after I sent the invoice and said that since the vehicle was sold as-is, the dealership will not cover any part of the repairs. Since the issues happened THE SAME DAY of purchase and the dealer's great reputation, I was surprised at the quick denial. This is a very serious engine issue. If left unrepaired, the engine will have a catastrophic failure and need to be replaced. On Coad's own dealership website, it answers the question of "Why buy at Coad". It states that all customers can enjoy peace of mind because ALL of THEIR USED VEHICLES have PASSED their Lifetime Warranty certification program. Obviously I trusted that my vehicle went through the same rigorous certification. Since the engine issue happened the SAME DAY, I expected that the dealership would stand behind their reputation and work towards a satisfactory resolution by doing the right thing. The final concern, the video screens not working, seemed trivial compared against the engine and tires, so I haven't even brought that up. I assumed that the oem factory installed rear seat entertainment system was working. I believed that that would have been another item that fell under their rigorous vehicle certification program. I have purchased several vehicles out of state from reputable dealers and have always had positive experiences. Unfortunately Jason Miller, General Manager, just let me know that it is just bad luck. They will not assist with this repair and will not escalate to their ownership. Don't believe their "Why buy from Coad" promise. *Response to Jason's reply... correct, at the dealership the vehicle did not make any noise nor did I notice the tires were the wrong size nor that the video screen screens weren't blinking on and off because I didn't sit in the backseat. That still doesn't take away the fact that the vehicle literally had engine problems on the SAME DAY that I drove back home from your dealership. For you to tell me that it's just bad luck, just speaks volumes to your integrity. I might as well purchased off Facebook Marketplace as that's the response I would expect from there. read more

#coadtoyotapaducah,ky I took my 2012 Toyota Tundra into Coad Toyota in Paducah, Ky on September 4th to get valve cover gaskets changed on left side of engine and spark plugs replaced because I had a miss fire on cylinder 6. Was also scheduled to get transmission flush. I was told 1.4 hours for valve cover change and 45 minutes for transmission flush. Appointment was scheduled for 11:45am I arrived at 10:45. After technician got started I got a phone call from Dalen saying the other side needs changed as well. Telling me it would be another 1.5 hours and 180.00 dollars. I gave him the ok to go ahead and fix. So after waiting 6 hours for a 4 hour job. Dalen came and said technician didn't recommend changing transmission fluid. But I have been carrying my truck to this dealership for the last seven to eight years for oil change. It was put in my notes to have transmission flush done. So after seven hours of waiting and being after five o'clock and lights being turned out they brought my truck around for me to leave my truck was running Worse than when I brought it in. After a 45 minute confrontation with Dan the service manager. He said there wasn't nothing he could do because the technician had left and he couldn't give me any kind of vehicle to send me home in. I stopped at 2 different auto part stores and they both said I miss fire on cylinder 8. I got home to find cylinder 8 had not been plugged in an was trapped behind coil and vacuum hose not hooked along with many other things that pictures will show. They sent wrecker to pick up my truck on September 5th. They hooked up all lose parts and truck still wasn't running correctly. Said I needed 2 new coils which wasn't bad before I went in. They wouldn't cover cost or even split cost with me. I contacted Toyota Corporations and filed report. Didn't get any help. So I gave the go ahead and fix. Another 572.00 on top of the 515.00 I had already spent. Dan the service manager called me on September 20th bragging how great the truck was running. So I went to pick it up on September 21. I looked over engine to make sure everything was put back together. Get in truck cranked it and let it run for a few minutes and check engine light came back on. Needless to say I was HOT. Went back in dealership Zachary the service guy was no help. Trentin stepped in and helped me out. He managed to get me a loaner. Dan emailed me on September 24th wasn't man enough to call and let me know what was going on. Wanted to charge me another 1382.76 for 6 more coils and still wouldn't guarantee it would fix the problem. So I talked to JJ Coad the owner hoping to get some help. She called back saying technician told her valve cover gasket was put in up side down before and none of this was there fault. JJ Coad asked when I could return her truck I told September 30th. She said no the F*** I'm not I'm going to bring her F*** truck back today. She said I have dealt with people like for 30 F*** years. Several other F*** bombs. And was going to report her truck stolen if I didn't return by 530pm on September 27th. And I don't never need to come back to her F*** dealership. We were victims of hurricane Harvey and lost both of our vehicles down here in Dickinson, Texas, (right outside of Houston). We were looking for a particular year, color, and model of a Ford Flex since we loved the Flex we lost. I looked online daily, (hesitant to buy any cars down here since most car lots flooded), & came across our Flex there at Mike Smith Toyota in Paducah, KY. I contacted Mike Smith and spoke to David Lucas who told me the Flex was a recent trade in. Dave was awesome with giving me every single detail I asked for, even going out to the lot checking for certain things I was looking for, taking pics of the car inside and out, (even under!), and texting them to me. I felt the listed price on the car was a pretty good deal and appreciated that Mike Smith even discounted more due to our circumstances. Dave went above and beyond in trying to get everything our credit union was needing so they could finance the car. He even called the Ford dealership (since it was a recent trade in), to request for the title to be sent ASAP since our credit union would not agree to finance until they were guaranteed the title by a certain deadline. Dave even test drove the Flex for me to make sure all was good, (hope I didn't get you in trouble Dave for having you drive a Ford while on Toyota's clock...Lol!!). I scheduled for a transport company to pick up our Flex to bring it down to us and Dave was there and in communication with me throughout the whole process & checked on me often while the car was in transit. I really enjoyed dealing with Dave and felt like we bonded over this whole experience. He even promised me & my family a pork chop sandwich at Patti's, and a ride for us on his boat if we ever decide to make up to Paducah, Kentucky :). I did nothing to antagonize the girl but speak the truth about their service. PRICES are outrageous, they do a "free" 40 point evaluation and tell you that you need repairs that you do not need! Had this happen three times! For about two years now, I have indeed been "trusting Mike Smith Toyota" with the service of my vehicle. Every maintenance and need outside of two have been performed at your dealership and those two were only because I was out of town and had no other way to bring it into their service department at those times. I had always felt like I was treated fairly, even if they are more expensive, and appreciated and they let me bring my little dog in too. I have friends who work there! I have never felt taken advantage of or let down, and I never felt like my vehicle was anything but safe. That changed today. I brought my 2015 SR5 in for a routine maintenance and a fog light bulb change and over two hours later, got back a vehicle with a very damaged windshield. I saw this within moments of leaving the dealership, turned around and brought it back to the service department only to be treated like I didn't matter, that my vehicle didn't matter and even, dare I say, like a liar. There's fresh glass dust so this wasn't there yesterday, this morning or when I got there. This wasn't caused by me and by no means did anything hit me after I left the bay. It wasn't there when I brought it in, but it was there when I left. I've talked to my insurance company, and what I want to happen is for you guys to replace the windshield with a genuine Toyota OEM part, or in the very least work with my company, to ensure that the windshield they put into my vehicle on my comprehensive is a genuine Toyota part. Why? I want to feel like my vehicle is safe with your dealership again. I want to feel like my patronage is valued. I don't want to see the quality of customer care at Mike Smith Toyota disappear like all of his memorabilia has and I don't want a bad name in my mouth. Update: I am going to update this review as I have been contacted by the GM of Mike Smith, and he seems genuinely involved and has promised that this problem will be resolved. I had gone to my local dealership and tried to purchase a new car there but they wanted to offer me way less for my trade, and although we just needed to meet in the middle - around $500 - they wouldn't budge. Until I left. I can't stand the car buying process, especially when salesmen try to haggle like that. I called Coad instead and talked with Ashley Miller. I told her what vehicle and features I wanted, sent her photos of my trade, and within 30 minutes she had called back, found the vehicle I wanted, and given me an offer that hands-down beat my local dealer. It was so nice for them to not haggle, not pressure, and how sweet Ashley was the entire time. I was passing through Kentucky driving west and I noticed my breaks slipping. Traveling across country can be a very stressful and difficult task. Even more so when you are having mechanical issues. I stopped in at Mike Smith Toyota and was greeted by a customer with his dog outside. I gave him a hello and a friendly pat on his head. Cutest little guy ever, his barks filled the showroom floor and made this place feel like home. The service advisor said they could take the car in the back and inspect it. Came back and said it needed new rear pad, and brake rotors rotated grinded down. They had me out in under two hours as a walk in. If you want to be treated right this is the place to go.
