Our trip was from Madison WI to Chicago O'Hare. The bus was not completely full. Nonetheless, the driver managed to lose my wife's luggage. Coach USA assigned a "ticket" for the matter and promptly forgot about us. An expensive piece of luggage and all my wife's belongings and jewelry were lost. If they find the luggage or reimburse us I will change our review. As it stands now, we leave for England in two hours with no clothes, toiletries, jewelry, rechargers, or medications. read more

Terrible website and really bad customer service. I tried several times to purchase a round-trip ticket from Chicago O'Hare to Madison, WI, but kept getting an error when I tried to click the button to purchase. All my information was filled out correctly and I had agreed to the term and conditions. So instead I had to purchase a ticket from the driver, who would only sell me a one-way ticket, which cost $8 more than on the website. Lame. Later I found out I was still charged for a round-trip ticket even though I never got an email or text confirmation of the transaction! I tried to find a customer service number on the website but this information is not available, clearly an intentional decision was made to make it hidden or not able to be found easily. I finally googled 'CoachUSA customer service' and found a number to call. When I did call, I was told i had to email CoachUSA to get a refund. I used to like taking this bus. But the website portal to buy a ticket and the customer service are terrible. I don't have a car so I'll have to take this bus again, but if there were another option with a better customer experience I would choose that over CoachUSA. read more

Driving from O Hare to Wisconsin on Coach USA and the bus driver is on the phone the whole way. Illinois is a hands free state but apparently not for bus drivers who drive vehicles that could crush a car. She was very concerned about her safety from Covid insistence the first two rows stay empty but our safety is not her first concern. Two stars because it was on time. read more

TERRIBLE company, do not waste your money. Buses are consistently very late (20+ min) and the route takes way longer than they say. I took a 10:50am bus from Chicago hoping to get home to South Bend for a 4pm appointment I really couldn't miss but of course the bus didn't get to SB until well AFTER 4. Absolutely ridiculous. Very slow and terrible service too, the workers are very rude. This was my 3rd trip with them and 3rd bad experience. Update: here I am 2 weeks later using Coach USA to O'hare again only because it was my only option and of course the bus is already 45 minutes late to our stop. Horrible experience with Coach USA, 351 Meadowlands Bus. After the Beyonce concert in July, our group went straight to the area where buses were picking up. On the bus webpage, it said that buses would be picking up for an hour after concerts end. Arriving at the pickup area, we joined a line of ~500 people. The line was moving incredibly slow - we waited overall for almost 3 hours - and very few buses were coming. When we got towards the front of the line, we learned the problem. There was only 1 person checking tickets to board all buses. This person did not know how to use the electronic ticket scanner, so he was allowing anyone with a paper ticket (ie purchased in person at Port Authority rather than online) to cut the line and board buses, while those with electronic tickets had to wait. Furthermore, there were just not enough buses for the number o people. And there was no one there to explain what was going on. I've tried to call and left voicemails three times hoping for a refund for this trip, but have received no return calls. I will never use Coach USA again and advise you not to either! read more

This time it was so bad that even a coworker coming in to start her shift said something about how they were speaking to me. Five big stars. All the way. My first review of Coach USA was in '08, but I've been using their bus service for much longer than that. It's still my preferred way to get home to WI. What I'm trying to say is that I love them! Over the years, they have added several more daily routes between Madison and downtown Chicago, which is great. And the schedule runs 365 days per year. Neat! Also note, they leave on time--so if you're late--no bus ride for you. They give a pretty sweet discount for UW students on round trip fares, which means nothing to me, but for those who are, be sure to take advantage of that. -Cash only for tickets purchased on the bus (or pre-pay on line) -bring iPod (trust me!!!) -always thank your driver. read more

Terrible. I am on a coach bus right now, and the smell radiating from the bathroom is more than I can bear. But what's worse than that is the travel time that's posted on the website is not accurate. I will reach my destination at least an hour (probably more like 2 hours) later than the time posted on the website. In my mind, that's unacceptable for a company who specializes in transporting people from place to place. Another thing I don't like about this company is that they require you to print your ticket to ride the bus. Misleading information on their webpage. I bought tickets to a game at Metlife Stadium. Their webpage clearly states "Buy tickets online. Priority boarding will be given to online ticket holders. Tickets can also be purchased inside of the Port Aurthority South Wing, main floor (windows 11-15)." I bought online tickets assuming that they would honor the statement on their webpage and that we would have priority boarding. Of course, there was no priority boarding for online ticket holders, only disgruntled dismissive employees. Would not recommend at all. Consistently late and unreliable service, the drivers are often rude and act like you're doing them a favor by taking their buses. The buses often smell bad, and the on-bus bathrooms are disgusting. And lately you can't even count on them to do their most basic service, which is taking you where you paid to go. The other day I was trying to take the bus from O'Hare Airport back to Notre Dame, where I go to school. The company decided mid-trip to turn the bus around and not go all the way to Notre Dame, instead dropping me off at the last location before the stop I had PAID to go to. To make matters worse, the company didn't put me up in a taxi or pay for my Uber: I had to pay for an Uber myself, on top of the cost of the bus ticket I'd already bought. And furthermore this was at midnight, I had to stand in the cold at this random bus stop (in a less than safe location) because the company decided to make their driver turn around (allegedly because he didn't "have time" to drive the bus all the way to ND before heading back to O'Hare...no wonder the buses are always late). I called them the next day asking for a refund for the Uber, and they wouldn't give it to me because it's "against their policy." They said incidents like this were unusual, but frankly it just falls into a long continuum of terrible service and this is the last straw. They also said they would call me back about it, and they did not. (Just in case the company sees this: the incident was NOT the individual driver's fault. To his credit he behaved professionally and apologized on behalf of the company, and was a kind and friendly person. He did everything he could. Coach USA as a corporate entity was responsible for my experience the other day and has failed to make it right. But I don't blame the driver at all.) One of my friends also told me of an even worse experience with Coach USA: they made him miss a flight after a similar situation as mine. He got on a bus that was allegedly on the way to O'Hare, but that also stopped at an earlier bus stop than planned. He then had to wait NINETY MINUTES for another bus to arrive, causing him to miss his flight. He had to pay hundreds of dollars for another plane ticket. You would think that a bus traveling to an airport would make speedy service a priority, but apparently not. I've heard horror stories from other ND students about the buses breaking down, etc.: in other words, my incident did not occur in a vacuum. Coach USA has no regard for their customers' travel plans; they are at best late and unreliable, and at worst completely incompetent. Consistently unprofessional and rude service, they don't care about their customers, and the only reason they get away with it is because they have a monopoly on mass ground transportation between Notre Dame and O'Hare. As long as I can help it I will never use this company again: I quite literally can't even trust them to take me where I need to go. At this point all I care about is whether they can get me to my intended destination, and they've shown they can't even do that. read more

Let me start by saying that I've been taking this bus for the past 30 years to O'hare and Midway and never had a problem. It used to be efficient, on time and professional....well, not anymore!!! Last week I arrived at 5am at the Highland terminal to catch the 5:20am bus to Midway. I noticed about 3 other passengers heading to Midway also. The lady behind the counter, that was still selling tickets for the trip didn't have a clue that the 5:20am bus didn't have a driver. I overheard her talking on the phone to someone, when she realized that there wasn't a driver, she seemed like "oh this again"... I asked her about the 5:20 bus and she said that there wasn't a driver and that bus wouldn't be going to Midway. When I asked her how we were supposed to get to Midway, she said "you'll just have to figure out another way". I was floored!! She did offer to refund the ticket that she had just sold another passenger, but mine she couldn't refund due to the fact that I had purchased it online. She said that they used to call Uber, but didn't do that anymore because they were OVERWHELMING that service!! HA HA HA!! That told me that this company and service is on it's way out!! Totally mismanaged, no regard for customer service, and a huge "We don't give a shit" attituded! We ended up taking an Uber to Midway with 3 other customers. On our way home from Midway, our bus driver (that was on her cell phone the entire time, and not wearing a seat belt) had some people that were going from Midway to O'hare, but that bus wasn't going to be running either, due to not having a driver for that route. I can only imagine how long those poor people's day was.... Anyone that books a trip with them are in for a rude and unprofessional experience...if they even get a bus to take them where they're going. That trip from Midway was my last for this company! A reliable way to get from Madison WI to Chicago IL. There are two stops/pick ups in Madison - Dutch Mill Park & Ride or Chazen Museum/UW-Madison. Buses run at least every 1.5 to 2h during the day, and for late riders, there's a ~2am and ~5am ride. I personally find the ride to ORD rather reasonable at 3 hours. Gets a little long to go to downtown Amtrak station (3.5h) and almost unbearable to MDW (4h). If you ever need to go to MDW and have an extra hour to spare. Save yourself $8 and take the orange line (3 blocks from Amtrak station) for only $2! Go grab some food along the way, and stretch your leg. I use the money I saved to get some food! If you're a UW student or alumni, the tickets are $23 instead of $30 one way. Buy the tickets from Memorial Union ahead of time! Otherwise, you can get your tickets online, or pay with cash on the bus. I recently had Mark Stavins as my driver. He was great with instructions, and made sure we knew what to look out for on the ride! read more

Mulled the bus coming out of the terminal and had no frickin idea how to start his bus. The trip back, wait, wait, call the dispatch number 2 tones to hear he is there and no bus. Bus was supposed to leave Notre Dame at 12:10 p.m. . We had pulled up to get luggage out. The bus left at 11:55! So we drove to the airport to get the same bus. The driver must have stopped for lunch because he didn't arrive at the airport until close to 12:30 (we got there in 10 minutes). He lied through his teeth and said he left ND at 12:10. We have his badge and agent number, will file a complaint with Coach although I doubt they will do anything about it after seeing all the complaints. Coach USA runs daily service from Jamestown, NY to Dunkirk, NY to Buffalo, NY. I would recommend taking this run only if all other options have been exhausted. Years back it was a decent/good choice. Drivers were excellent. This has not been true for the last 5 years or so. What a nightmare, never again. The Greyhound I had paid for canceled, I was taking the Greyhound because I missed my Amtrak train. Okay, so far, out $45 bucks, the Coach driver announces he's leaving the Milwaukee Intermodal on an express bus to O'hare. What he doesn't add is that the Express bus has a dozen stops on the way so I would have saved more time waiting for the next Amtrak Train. Or walking. There was no heat on the bus, and it was below zero outside, about 30 degrees onboard. On one of the stops I jumped off and asked the Coach ticket lady if I could get at least a partial discount for the no heat situation. She said "no." She did come out and ask the driver and he told her the heater was working fine. What? On the way I called their dispatch and had a hard time explaining because I was shivering so badly. They called him, I guess, and he told the bus if anyone else complained about the no heat, he would pull the bus over (implying we would freeze to death and still not get to O'hare). The dispatcher on the phone told me "the driver says the heat is working fine." Wow. The worst. Don't ever take Coach, don't let your loved ones, friends or friends of friends take Coach. In fact, it wouldn't be right to put your worst enemies on a Coach bus, be a man and take them on in a fair fight without torture. read more

I arrived early at SBN and after waiting 15 longer than when the bus was supposed to arrive, I called their number and they said that that bus is no longer coming. We bought 2 roundtrip bus tickets for $103 for the NY Renaissance Faire in Tuxedo, NY about a week in advance. I printed out my purchase voucher which had both me and my friend's name and address on it. It stayed safe in my house until the day of the trip on the morning of Sunday August 27th. When I get to the ticket window the clerk tells me "your tickets have already been redeemed last Thursday". I asked how the hell can that happen?? I was irate. She was totally worthless and couldn't help me. She didn't even care that I was upset. She gave me a 1-800 number written on my voucher to call about my problem... but told me I had to wait till Monday to do it. She told me my only option was to buy another pair of tix if I wanted to get on the bus...which was leaving in 20 minutes. So, I was forced to buy 2 new tickets with cash I was planning on using at the event I was going to. We were both very upset for about half the ride up there. Today I called the number the clerk gave me and after 3 calls someone finally picks up saying only "Hello?" and I had to ask "Is this Coach USA?" Wow. Very professional of you. After explaining my ordeal and demanding a refund, the lady on the phone explained to me how this was a miskey error made by one of their employees who accidentally redeemed my voucher for another customer going to Binghamton. She said she would refund me the $103. I said thank you and that I would've sued them if they didn't refund me anyway. I asked what else will you do for me since you basically ruined my entire mood and my morning that day with this bullshit. Give me a free ticket somewhere. Give me a discount. No. Nothing. She said the refund is all she could do for us. Wow. How do you expect to have return customers? So guess what? This story is being posted on every site that has Coach USA and Shortline Bus Co for review. 1 star! You guys suck! Never again! read more

We're traveling from Los Angeles and New York City to meet in Chicago Ohare for a funeral of one of our family members, and one of our passengers is obviously disabled. We've been traveling all day and still have a two hour trip to get to our final destination from the airport. We were told that there is a shuttle service to take us to Highland where another family member would pick us up. We are called to load the shuttle, we go outside, the driver is nowhere to be found, so we leave our luggage and begin boarding. One of us hands off the luggage and the wheelchair to the driver who shows up, he has not communicated a thing, but proceeds to load all the luggage. An hour and a half later, we arrive and grab our luggage, but there is no wheelchair to be found. He said he left it at the airport and thought it was borrowed. Again, NO COMMUNICATION! The man made an assumption! We are stranded without a wheelchair. He gets angry when we ask what happened and are devastated that he made such a mistake! He proceeds to yell back at us as if it was our fault! Horrible service! I asked what he can do to find a solution to this matter and he continues to tell us that he cannot figure that out until we stop yelling and we weren't yelling, just shocked this happened! The man, Andre Wright, was so pissed off that he calls the airport and then leaves! He did apologize but I'm such a rude way. It's already difficult enough to travel with a disabled passenger, but the service this man provided with the situation was unbelievable! He needs to understand he needs to communicate because this was a horrible situation! read more

WILL NEVER RIDE AGAIN. I fly often and used to use CoachUSA to travel between Chicago O'Hare Airport and South Bend, IN when the trains weren't running. If you're looking to travel between these two cities, I would highly recommend taking the blue line from the airport to a train station (Millennium Station or Union Station) and taking either the South Shore Line or Amtrak east. South Shore Line is a very reliable train service that is always on time (unlike Coach USA) and this alternative trip will take around the same time for 1/3 of the cost. The reason I will never ride Coach USA again is because one day, they refused to recognize my ticket and that was when I experienced THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. I've been delayed and rerouted often by airlines, which is always frustrating, but never have I been blamed for not being able to reach my destination on time. I had two confirmation emails, a printed out ticket, and an online bank statement verifying that they had indeed charged me $40 for their service, and yet because the operator couldn't find my confirmation number, I was told to either pay $40 again, or to get off the bus. No one tried to work with me, they just said it was standard policy to not let people ride free. I wasn't even given a refund because they don't refund eTickets, even though I was refused service. While I'm sure this is a rare case, just know if anything goes wrong, THE PEOPLE WHO RUN COACH USA HAVE NO COMPASSION FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS. And can I just repeat how awesome the trains are? read more

My luggage was damaged by the driver of the bus I took to O'Hare Field, and my damage report to their executive office went wholly ignored for days until I finally contacted their customer relations department (Jim Beasley) who did nothing but argue with me in the flagrant pursuit of demolishing my veracity and dismissing my claim. Airport Super Saver Coach USA has completely no regard for passengers that are trying to get to the airport on time. My daughter has had this happen now three times in one school year. They pick the students up in South Bend for a transport to Chicago O'Hare airport. They then pull over on Highland and say that the transfer canceled and they will have to wait for another bus for over an hour. This puts my daughter in serious jeopardy of missing her flight. I called the company and spoke to Chris (who will not give me his last name), and they offer no solution what soever. The only option we have is to higher a uber and pay the extra money. They really don't care about the passengers and their schedule. I also asked for our money back and they said since my daughter boarded the bus she cannot get reimbursed! How about reimbersing passengers when the company cannot complete this transfer. Notre Dame needs to hire a different service for the students as this company is far from reliable! read more

OK as last resort. Some drivers are surly. Tickets and receipts are printed on flimsy paper like ones that print at gas station pumps. They easily fade. Suggest you take a picture of it. Awful experience. What was supposed to be an hour and a half ride became a 3 and a half hour nightmare. During our trip we transferred to 3 different buses because the first bus broke down 10 minutes into the trip. We understand things happen...but the biggest issue we had was that NO communication was given to the passengers. The bus driver pulled over on the highway and continued to turn the bus on and off for 30 minutes without saying a word about what was going on or what the plan was. It wasn't until another bus arrived that we knew a plan was in motion. After unloading onto the freeway to transfer to the next bus, we continued to make stops along the route until we pulled into another Coach USA bus terminal and assumed it was just another stop along the route. After 10 minutes of sitting there another bus driver came onto the bus and yelled at us to get off and get on yet ANOTHER bus in the lot. Again, no communication. No idea what's going on. No one willing to answer questions. Just a bunch of rude men raising their voices as if we are the ones at fault for this hellish excursion. We witnessed many other passengers asking questions and receiving no response or a simple one-word answer that was completely unhelpful. The final leg of the trip included 15+ unscheduled stops! One of which entailed transferring an entirely new set of passengers onto our bus after our bus driver pulled over to ask his buddy if he wanted him to take all his passengers for him so he didn't have to finish his city bus route. Don't even get me started on the horrific driving of all 3 drivers we had... If I can leave anyone with a piece of advice it would be to invest a few more dollars into your travel to save your sanity and your opinion of public transportation and travel with literally ANY OTHER bus company. read more

August 7th, 2017 - Gate 410 @ 12:45pm Our experience from NY bus port authority to Woodbury Commons was stressful. This company should get their act together. No signs leading to Shoreline ticketing or gates. Once you get to the gate, you find no signs, and the electronic board it working. The bus wasn't able to take all the passengers so we had to wait for another bus which took 20 minutes.
