You are welcome Anthony!! :0P He listens to what your fitness goals are and is realistic with what needs to happen in order to achieve them. I also like that since opening his new business/gym he is open to feedback to make it successful and inviting for those who are looking to get fit. I like that the gym is never too crowded as it is private and limited to the clients of the personal trainers working there. I would highly recommend Anthony as a trainer as he is personable with a good sense of humor which you can appreciate if he's busting your balls by asking you to pedal for 30 seconds nonstop on an air bike. He is very knowledgeable, professional, and has an easy-going friendly and motivating attitude. He was able to train both of us at the same time despite our different workout goals, and was easy to schedule sessions with. We always got the full length of training time, and never had to wait around for him like I've had to do with other trainers. He gave us a lot of nutritional advice as well in the form of emails, and also gave me a workout routine in the form of an Excel spreadsheet that I still use on my own half a year later. Thanks a lot Anthony! Hope to see you some time in the future :)

I can say that the impact this man had in my life has been significant to my overall success and growth as a person. Anytime I think of fitness this man comes to mind. He knows his stuff and more. He knows alternate exercises and variations for those injured or with some sort of issue. I haven't always looked or felt better than after a workout with Chris (Owner), I have tried many other gyms, but there's a reason I at times opt to just take a rest day than to workout with someone else. He knows his stuff and promotes a good atmosphere, if in doubt try him out and experience the difference. I have a 300 lb. pic, I went all the way down to 165 lb at some point and now I'm in between 175 lb and 180 lb. My goals have shifted from weight loss, to muscle, to more lean and whatever life allows me to shoot for, however Chris knows how to get me out of any plateaus I get into. I always sort of felt weird, like a spectacle, having someone watch me while I workout, but Sam makes it fun every single session! She's a great conversationalist and really makes it feel like you're just working out with a friend (who keeps you honest and hard working!) and she totally has also become a great friend! When I started working with Sam, I saw results IMMEDIATELY. It helped that I was instantly at ease with her cause I could be 100% honest about my weight gain situation. She soon got me on track with a healthy meal plan (I seldom felt hungry or unsatisfied) and lost, gosh, 30lbs in just a few months?! I hadn't looked or felt that good in so long- love weight is a bitch, but Sam is the cure! Right from day one, I could tell that she was dedicated to my goals and interested in working with me to achieve my milestones. She really helped me develop a habit of working out and changing my lifestyle rather than just running through workouts with me. She is very responsive to your progress as you train with her and not to mention, keeps her workouts dynamic. I was never bored with our sessions and found that she constantly pushed me as soon as I had mastered an exercise. With Sam I was able to discover new methods of toning up past just using the weight room. Over the course of the few months that I trained with her, I've definitely become more active and mindful of my fitness regime. Additionally, Sam is great work with on a personal level as well. She's fun and very amiable. I found it very easy to talk to her which in turn just helped increase my comfort level with her. I highly recommend Sam to help anyone achieve their fitness goals. Most of the male staff are genuinely friendly, especially Kai (or Kaj I always forget!) with the shaggier hair, and the attractive Latino staff member who's always welcoming. The long-haired guy can be a bit awkward, but he's consistently helpful. The female staff members are usually professional, though friendliness varies. One heavier-set Latina employee is very insistent about reminding everyone they close at 7 p.m. on weekends, and another female employee with longer brown hair barely greeted guests when my husband and I checked in. In contrast, the older white female employee is always warm, professional, and gives strong owner energy. When I had to cancel, Crystal guided me through their new online process, and I was able to cancel and receive my confirmation email right from my hotel while traveling; a huge improvement compared to Plant Fitness's old in-person cancellation policy, which was honestly absurd. Overall, this is the best location in San Diego: clean, drama-free, and staffed with people who mostly care about customer service. Way better than the College location I used to visit while at SDSU. Highly recommend.

However, today I found a tick-like bug in the women's restroom which is highly concerning. Other days, there is a definite "stench"/muggy atmosphere from poor facility circulation and very old equipment such as attachments and mats. Last year, I was one of many customers complaining about how old and falling apart the mats were. For transparency, it took a quite awhile for new mats, and that is a piece of equipment that needs to be replaced frequently. Ultimately, this location is in dire need of a "face lift."

I had just come from a weekend away in Palm Springs, where I had planned to relax, run, and engage in as much fitness as possible. I headed out for a run on New Years Day; new shoes, new lululemon pants, new Garmin watch, and after about 20 min. my outer knee was in so much pain I had to basically walk the rest of the way home. I was devastated and confused. Not only had I run for about an hour for 2 days in a row prior, I have been an avid runner since High School. Even with icing my knee for about 3 days straight, nothing was helping and I knew I had done something more serious. My history of running - I have run a total of around 4 or 5 half marathons easily, no knee pain since 2012. Completed many 10K's and casual runs on my own at least twice a week for years. It was something that happened so out of the blue, I am just thankful that Alex entered my life when he did. He started out with the basics, which at the time seemed a little out of context. "What other workouts do you do? What has changed in your exercise in the last year". I couldn't really come up with much, other than lots of YOGA. Becoming a certified Yoga teacher and basically doing yoga everyday for the past year only seemed like it was helping my running. Of course. Alex saw this as a red flag right away. With the types of exercises that I was engaging in on a weekly basis, I was only extending ligaments and asking parts of my body (my knee) to over compensate. This then effected my IT band, more weight in my calfs, soreness, you name it. It's a vicious cycle. After about 5 sessions with Alex - he not only identified the root cause of my pain, but trained me to run in a different pattern so I could alleviate the pain, without having to give up what I love. We took everything in phases, added in weights, combined static movements with real time workouts and in no time, I was back. To this day pain or not, I have shifted the way I run bc he has taught to me always look ahead. Alex sees prevention of injury like no one else I have ever met. I am not a very optimistic person when it comes to my body, bc I am very in tune with how it wants operate, or not operate for that matter. I was completely in awe when I made it through my first 30 min. From January 25th, when I tried to run a 5K and made it 5 min, to about mid February, I was running about 25-30 min. and now, I can run over an hour with no knee pain. Alex sees things and connections that no one else I have ever see does. I went to 2 different knee specialists who were runners themselves and left with very little optimism, and zero improvement. Alex has a holistic approach to the body that cannot necessarily be taught. It's in his intuitive nature and he sees the way in which body connects. This knowledge that he has is why he can not only guide people to overcome their injuries, but can advise on how to avoid degenerative tendencies that come with age, overuse, and in my opinion... a passion for your sport. I couldn't be more thankful for his knowledge, expertise and precision when it comes to the human body and protecting it for the rest of the active I life I have. Thanks Alex! :)

He knows exactly how to draw the most out of you, working you to your maximum through a combination of drilling and cheer leading. You come to expect more out of yourself because HE expects more out of you. He helps you find an inner strength that you never even knew you had. His training doesn't stop when your hour is up, either. He works with you on your nutrition too, developing a calorie plan, recommending meals, and even reviewing your food logs daily. He takes progress photos and pulls them out just when you start to get discouraged, showing you how far you've come. I am down over 50 pounds and am wearing a pants size that is literally half the size of the ones I was wearing the day I walked into S&S the first time. But it's thanks to Justin's leadership the entire team inspires me, whether I'm hearing other trainers across the gym or chatting at the front desk, or moved just a bit extra by daily quotes on the whiteboard. Every hard rep is celebrated with high fives and every day I'm not training, the staff is working hard on my nutrition, my growth, and adjustments for chronic pain. John was there to hear *all* my concerns my very first day, top of which was that I've been recovering from an eating disorder since 2012 and had been fearful of training because of triggering language or incentive. John briefed the whole team for me, and 8 months in I've never once had to explain myself or course correct. They got me, they push me, they celebrate with me, and see me as a person they're really invested in. It's obvious that same level of energy and investment carries to all their clients. Today I feel strong, excited, powerful, and healthy.
