My wife and I recently contacted Jeremy Jefferson of The Hired Hand to come out and give us an…read moreestimate for upgrading the motors and impellors in two of our bathroom exhaust fans and install a new fan in our master bathroom. Jeremy and his helper showed up at the house on time and took a look at the job. He quoted me $125-150 for the two fans upstairs and $150-200 for the master bath downstairs. I gave Jeremy the go-ahead on the costs and he got started. I should have known things were off when I went upstairs to test the work they completed and noticed they had wired the light and fan together where they were previously separate switches. I asked Jeremy why he did that and he told me he ran into a bad switch in each bathroom. I have since tested the switches and they worked just fine before they came out and now as well (the first lie). Jeremy and his helper were by this time totally focused on the master bathroom fixture and while they did get it installed in the process they ripped the sheetrock under the light cover and knocked the putty off of a nearby screw. I asked that they fix the damage and he said yes he would do it as it was part of the job and they would take care of it (second lie). Jeremy then spent hours calling Tech support for the fan company as he was unable to read or interpret the wiring diagram and instructions. He spent hours doing this and told me he was going to have to bring back his electrician from a nearby college to help him with this if he wasn't able to figure it out. I then joined a meeting as I was working from home and he approached my wife and told her I had agreed to pay them for the work before it was completed and pay their hourly rate even though the work was not completed (third lie). This prompted her to write them a check for $345 as I wasn't available to be interrupted at the time. Jeremy did commit that he would be back to finish the work (fourth lie). Over the next few days, I sent multiple text messages and left multiple voicemails for Jeremy and he didn't respond. When he finally did get back to me on Jan 9th he said he would be back out with an electrician to finish the work (fifth lie). My wife ran into them the same day in the mall parking lot in Goldsboro and they assured her that they had attempted to reach me multiple times (sixth lie). Jeremy also told her once they got a commitment from the electrician they would be back out (seventh lie). Thus far they have not contacted me or shown up to complete the work. I have now started a process through my bank for funds recovery since the work was not completed.

We had to start the entire process over and wait another 4 days before a new contractor could go out. Maybe contractors these days are making all the money they can, but this is not the way businesses should operate.

His attention to detail and meticulous bookkeeping make every project smooth and enjoyable. I am incredibly thankful to have found him and hesitate to write this only because he still has the rest of my house to finish. At this rate, I might need him on retainer indefinitely! He's currently working on a custom fireplace surround and built-in bookcase in our formal living room, and I can't wait to share updated pictures soon. I was surprised to see a negative review regarding a no-show, as my experience with him has been nothing but outstanding. I hired Greg to renovate a half bath that had a toilet that leaked, damaging the sub floor and…read morehardwoods in the hall. The first red flag was Greg's cartoonish quote for work. Greg is a smooth talker and made it seem like it would all be good. He said payment would be due upon completion although there was no mention of this in the "contract." Turns out "Remove vanity and install custom vanity" means ripping out the large existing vanity, sink, and huge mirror and then popping down the pedestal sink THAT I BOUGHT. Period. Red flag #2: When I asked Greg about the massive drywall damage, he said "Is it in the contract?" The agreement does say he does not cover drywall repair, but this was literally left in a demo state. On Day 2, while the entire floor was ripped up with the crawlspace exposed, Greg asked me for a check. I said I planned to pay him with a credit card and it would take me a few days to move money around to give him the equivalent of cash. Day 3 he walked off the job claiming non-payment. After I calmly explained that I could not be in non-payment because no payment was due, Greg came back the next day like nothing happened... All of the insulations under the half bath was wet so it had to go. Greg did not want anything to do with replacing it. I went out and bought insulation and installed it myself. Either Greg or his plumber, Drew, cracked the first sink basin during install. Luckily Home Depot replaced it with no questions and Drew came back and installed the new one. Drew was actually great. I did all of the leg work for the return, so don't expect Greg to actually stand by his work or take responsibility for mistakes. Greg made it clear he does not do hardwood floor repair and I was fine with that. Turns out, my hardwood flooring guy discovered that there was a strange strip of plywood sub floor installed to fill a gap that was not actually supported. We found out why when he pulled it up. See photos. Don't expect structural repairs to actually connect to other structural members. Don't expect your tile OR subfloor to be level or flat. Don't expect a professional job.

I contacted NHRC and Greg came out the next day for a consultation. He quoted me a price that I thought was very good for the entire bathroom remodel. Greg and his other worker were very efficient and even though we ran into a few issues (old plumbing and uneven walls), Greg was able to troubleshoot the issues and did a fantastic job with this renovation. As you can see from the photos, the bathroom turned out beautifully! I'm very happy with the results. Greg did such a great job. I will be contacting him for future renovations. I highly recommend NHRC and Greg's remodeling services!
