Well let's hope this wsmv is able to stop this delay in upgrading to. UHF FREQ TO BROADCAST ON…read more THEY HAVE A TRANSLATOR STATION TOWARDS COOKVILLE DIRECTION AND WHATS SAD IS IT IS UHF AND LOW POWERED YET WORKS 30 miles from the antenna. WSMV ch4 is a number on the screen yet is still transmitting on ch 10 - high VHF at 60 kilowatts. That's great but it's falling short of the industry standard that had relocated tv ATSC DIGITAL TO UHF AND HAVE COMSUMERS WITH UHF ANTENNA S NOT ABLE TO PICK UP A VHF TRANSMISSION. The main tower is 1300 feet and yet 10 miles from the tower it's still unstable to watch even with antenna outside a home window. People can't afford cable to rebroadcast local stations. There are money excuses as to WHY WSMV just won't upgrade their transmitter and antenna to match their freq if they switch to uhf . The over all foot print is very patchy . They truly don't care . They even take various local shows that have commercials for a show and then still return to show and start selling a product or service with in the program it's self . If a local place wants to sell item s then buy ad space as a sponsor not a in show conversation. Featured events keep placing product placement with in product programing making an insulting attempt at forcing sales and service when it's time for content or discussion about real topics , not the latest gadget and dog grooming truck. People want substance and quality programing about real events and activity. I once called the WSMV engineer to ask what their choice of tv transmitter brand was. I was told that's not information he can tell me. That's so hilarious. It's a handful of companies and it's not a secret at all. Many units have gone to sold state systems and that's modern equipment. There are no good reasons for me to care about this station on knob hill. It's. Snob hill . Any one here seems put out to talk to about improvement .

This review touches on two aspects of NPT, "what they do" and "where" they do it…read more If you're not a fan of Public Television, I urge you to watch, listen, and perhaps learn about the fantastic programming they offer. They're local...and for 28 years they've covered businesses and individuals across Tennessee in brief, yet fairly comprehensive segments on a weekly show titled "Tennessee Crossroads." This timely and entertaining program of vignettes is hosted by Joe Elmore and the informative, fascinating, and revealing segments showcase everything from restaurants to museums, historic places, and craftspersons with unique skills. And they cover Tennessee from Memphis to Kingsport, Chattanooga to Union City. NPT is international ...carrying programming from BBC (most likely you've heard of Downton Abbey), or perhaps you're a fantastic amateur cook. If so, you should watch the Great British Baking Show. Oh what skills these amateur bakers have! And what polite and spot-on critiques of their impressive culinary work. NPT also carries other special international programs from time to time. NPT is arts-minded...opening for you a "weekly window" on visual and performing arts. There are history programs, commentaries from around the globe, and music from Bluegrass to Classical to Rock and Roll. And how about a trip down memory lane with throwbacks to music from the 50's 60's and 70s? Yep...hear it right here during special weeks. There is virtually no subject NPT hasn't covered...news, social and political commentary, entertainment, drama, Children's programming (a rich history of that, indeed!) and so much more. Take time to check out their scheduling. And if you're too busy to watch during air time, try streaming at your convenience via NPT Passport. I'm fairly certain you'll find something of interest: Gardening, Comedy, Music, Town Hall Meetings, Holiday Specials, and so much more! Best of all....it's free! Where does this all take place? Well, right in your own home or on your mobile device for starters. But where does it originate? Some of the programming is created right here in Nashville at their studios on Rains Avenue. That's where I recently attended a special premier showing of an NPT documentary, "Voyage of Adventure: Retracing Donelson's Journey" - a glimpse into the path to the founding of Nashville. So informative and entertaining! You can even rent NPT studios to create your own program or special! And NPT is always on the lookout for Volunteers to help with a variety of weekly tasks and special events. Check their site out online for more info. Adventure, suspense, comedy, and information of all kinds are right at your fingertips. Just click the appropriate button on your TV remote or personal electronic device and you're in.

You can watch BBC news on here, catch some cool documentaries and learn some pretty interesting stuff about Nashville. I love watching America's Test Kitchen on Saturday mornings and Masterpiece Classic on Sunday nights. There is a little bit of everything offered here, from cartoons and kids programs to adult education and just plain old entertainment. They even do pieces and interviews on local eateries, businesses and professionals. Check out their website for the schedule. If you've got the fancy cable there's even a second NPT channel.

The authenticity that comes across from the djs is what is so compelling and keeps the station firmly on my car's first setting. Because of this I've been turned onto tons of new music, and have had many "OMG! I can't believe they're playing ---! Heart times a million, 91.1!" moments. Today, as I was cruising along 40 under the baking sun, I slowly began to realize they were playing experimental Impulse-era Coltrane. I have NEVER heard anything from Coltrane's later career on the radio, let alone here in the South, and it made me so frigging happy. The mood was perfect for my day and the drive and all was right with the world. And then. A couple minutes later the dj revealed that the owners of the station have announced that they are "considering" selling the student-run station. The only station I truly love. My WRVU. Sad face. Let's not let this happen. You can read about, and hopefully make an impact here: http://www.wrvu.org/?p=637

WRVU is the student run Vanderbilt radio station. This radio station is a breath of fresh air. They have a new program with a real live DJ every hour or every two hours. Some programs are 'talk,' some programs are hardcore rock, some programs are indie rock. Can you imagine a world with so little automation!? WRVU is that world. It's fantastic to listen to. Even if the genre isn't what I am into listening to, I still enjoy hearing the DJ's chatter away. Most of the DJs are on the ametuer side, which in my opinion makes listening even more fun, because these are real human beings we are listening to. There are a few veteran DJs who have some of the better 'drive-time' slots. They play some roots country music, and some blues in addition to great local indie artists. A couple of my favorite shows are: 'Grumpstown,' which is a Japanese pop show, 'The Peguin Parade,' which is eclectic dance rock, and the 'Rebel Music' show, which is reggae and ska. Go to the WRVU website to get their full schedule of shows. The station is broadcast from Vandy, so you can be assured you are hip with what the young kids are listening to. Since Nashville is Music City, I think this station really does justice to all the different kinds of listeners this city has. WRVU really has an great offering, so when you are in town, tune in to 91.1 fm!
