I didn't need diagnostics or repair because I'd already purchased a replacement laptop, as this one was already quite old. Got a call later from the owner that it was $100 for the files and $50 more for a drive. I said I'd brought my own drive in. He didn't realize that, even though I wrote on the form will bring in my own flash drive. I told him I was upset about how I had been given wrong information and my instructions weren't followed. His solution at first was that I could just pay the $35 diagnostic fee. I refused. I had specifically said I didn't need the laptop diagnosed or repaired, just my files recovered. Then he said I could pay the $100 and get the files on my own drive or pay nothing and he'd let me have my computer back (with no files so I can't take them elsewhere) and he'd waive the diagnostic fee. He also said how irresponsible his employee is and that he would fire him and that he doesn't follow through. Which is completely unprofessional and none of my business as a consumer. If an employee doesn't do good work that is a reflection of you as a manager. Personally, I thought the person I talked to was warm, friendly, willing to provide information and answer questions, and FAR nicer to work with than he was. I will say I mentioned that I understand his wanting to be paid for work that he did. And that I value his skills as he's able to provide a service to do something I personally can't do. But his attitude was rushed, emotionally defensive, and the service I received wasn't what I was led to expect.
