Man, I find myself coming back here because as in my previous review I find the sauces and the chicken to be pretty legit here and has been for all the years I've been coming. It's a guilty pleasure. Sadly it's crummy here plain and simple. The prices steadily go up and it's not even subtle anymore, the menus posted in the store have the prices written in marker so when they're ready to up the prices, they just erase the marker and change it to what they want. Combos aren't even worth it anymore. My usual is the 10 wings/tenders, 1 side and a drink. It used to be about $13-$14 now it's $15.99! It gets worse, they used to give me a huge 24oz. fountain drink but my latest visit the guy told me I could only get a 8oz. can. You kidding me? The last thing that pissed me off about my latest visit is I wanted to get half of my order in one sauce and the other half with a different sauce - I've done this before, when I later looked at my receipt there a was $0.13 charge. Why?? I know it's not that serious, but warn me please. I've never seen that before. The workers here have usually been ok, but the workers here in my last visit were unusually "dead" and lacked any kind of emotion. "Hello", "What can I get for you", "Can I help you?" Are usually good openers, not a blank stare at me, waiting for me to begin my order. Cluck-U has really fallen. I'll still come once in awhile but disappointing is only the beginning of how I'd describe coming here. read more

Fishy chicken The cookers even did it wash their hands, their nails are very long and very disgusting. I suffered from diarrhea afterward read more

It would be a good place to order from. the flavor is good but it could be cleaner. The cooks aprons are dirty and doesn't look like they change them daily. You can see upon entering that they throw dirty water at the doorway without rinsing it away. Not a good sign. Just makes you think that they're not very clean behind the wall. Also, they do not clean the chicken very well. Too much fat on chicken strips. read more

I used to visit this place frequently but stopped for some tile and returned after years of not going. I think they have a new owner or went through sometype.of.overhaul as the food is no where near the same. I got honey bees and chicken bites. The bites were overcooked. And the honey bees were disgusting. Taste like a fried grease ball with one small drop of honey for all 5 biscuits. I.had to had my own honey from home on it as apparently they missed the honey. Yeah I wont be returning read more

So, I go to this spot once in awhile for a burger and fries. I went today and ordered one cheeseburger (with whatever else they originally offer) and sautéed onions. How hard can that be, right? Wrong. Lol ..... I got all the way home, showered and got comfortable before deciding to dig in. The onions I requested were raw so I then called them to let them know. The person that I spoke to seemed to be the exact person that took my order. I could be wrong about that but if it was a different person, why not have someone experienced shadow him? He said that the order taker was only on his second day. If he didn't under stand the word sautéd, why not ask his fellow co-workers or me? It's clear as day that common sense can't be taught and I spend A LOT of money on the person that owns that establishment. He owns a few brick and mortars but I guess not ALL the employees he hires can be decent. I was given a credit for $1.30 but who else has gotten all the way home to learn their order was wrong. The nuisance, subpar burger, and this weak credit wasn't worth the trip or money. read more

If you like chicken as much as I do, then for the love of God, do NOT order from Cluck U. Three times I've ordered from them in the last year, which proves how badly I wanted to believe it would get better. But alas, abandon all hope. If anything, the food got worse. Dry, tough, and scorched, I'm 95% certain the chicken they gave me was not prepared the same day I ordered it, but instead had spent the better part of a week underneath a heat lamp. Maybe it's good the day they make it, but apparently we shall never know. read more

I'm giving this place four stars based only on the quality and quantity of the food. The ambiance and staff of this place is below average. I ordered a medium mini bites and the portion was huge. I got honey hickory sauce on it. They did not skimp on the sauce but I was supposed to get two dipping sauces on the side. I got one blue cheese. But I did get two forks. It was enough for two people. The outside looks normal but when you go inside it's like 2x2. Reminds me of a check cashing place. There is no indoor or outdoor dining. There were two people behind the desk. One took my order and the other took my payment. They were literally on top of each other. The one girl was not that jovial and only interested in Typing on her laptop. There was an AC in the back but it was hot in there. Would I go back. Possibly but only if I ordered ahead. I could not see the kitchen. It was hidden by walks of kitchen equipment. read more

My brother & I ordered food from here at 12:15am. They told us it would take and hour and next thing you know, the driver was at our door calling at 12:42. The food arrived hot & with everything that we ordered the way we requested it to be made. It was way better than we expected for a meal at that time & we will 1000% be ordering from here again! read more

The heat wave continues, so the Door-Dashing dashing does too. Combined with the craving for fried chicken led us to Cluck-U. EPIC MISTAKE. We ordered chicken, fried mushrooms and mashed potatoes (we made veg here). AWFUL! Chicken was SO overcooked the color approached brown/black. The coating was dry, crumbly and bitter. The meat was dried out, chalky and very stringy. The old trick of a touch of corn oil couldn't help; it was just too far gone. Trashed it. Mushrooms were wet, soggy and really inedible. We tried tossing them under the broiler but they were just too far gone. Dog got them ('shooms are good for dogs) but showed less than his normal enthusiasm. WHY would a fry place put fried food into FOIL (JUST SAY NO!) and then FOAM (maybe WORSE)! Where's your pride? How could a cook let his food go out that way?? McDonald's food may be bad, but they spent millions learning packaging. Hint to Cluck-U dummies: go to the Golden Arches, order 40 large fries, eat them & then take the empty boxes back to your restaurant to put your fried food in. NEVER ALLOW FRIED FOOD TO CONDENSATE. NEVER. I didn't appreciate all the water drops forming a small pond inside my foam box of 'shrooms. Soggy food is garbage. Wise up. Truth is we should have known better from a place know for slimy wings. For some reason they bread em before cooking, so the sauce turned them into a wet, mushy mess. The folks at the Anchor Bar should send people down to picket your restaurants. Hope you're haunted by the ghosts of the chickens you've killed, then ruined. read more

Placed an order for a combo. Never received drink and delivery was late by over 20 minutes. Paid for the delivery fee as well as a tip and was told that the driver will not be returning back with my drink. I paid for it and on top of paying for my combo I paid a delivery fee and tip and no one is concerned about providing proper customer care. When you do wrong you're supposed to make it right. I wasn't asking for anything for free I was missing something and I deserve to have what I paid for. But since the store intends on stealing from the customers I will no longer be ordering from here ever again. This is a shame because the food isn't half bad. You just lost a customer. read more

Over the past years, I have enjoyed the beef spare ribs at CluckU. However, the price has gotten absurd. I recently paid $30 for 12 pieces of beef ribs. They were bony, with a lot of fat and cartilage. I have expressed this to them in person, on the phone, and in writing. I guess I'll be cooking my own ribs in the future. read more

Went here to get boneless buffalo chicken and I asked for blue cheese. The lady told me I had to pay .60 cents for it. I said you don't give a complimentary blue cheese, I did buy buffalo chicken. Her answer: No. I told her that don't make no sense. Fast food establishments at least give you 1 for free and you have to pay for extra. That's the last time I go there. Because everytime I go here, they always have some bs with them. No good customer serve and just plain old sad. No more for me. Updated to when i got home: I got home and noticed that my fries that I order with gravy and Cheese, only had gravy on it. And I paid $2.99 plus .25 cents for the gravy and got no damn cheese. This place is really ridiculous!!! read more

GF talked a lot about this chain back when we were living in San Francisco, so I was excited to try it. We're both BIG on hot and spicy anything, so again, I was excited to try it. GF says their menu has expanded quite a bit to offer other options. I just wanted to try the wings. The spiciest sauce is their "911" and you have to sign a waiver for it. I decided to try the sauce just one notch under their spiciest, "Thermo Nuclear BBQ." It was sloppy wet, but I think some folks like that. Not me. I thought the sauce was pretty good, but not as spicy as I expected. On a scale of 1-10 on the hot meter, I'd give it a 6. "911" next time...hope it doesn't disappoint. read more

If I was writing this review about 15 years ago, I'd easily and gladly give 5 stars. But that's not sadly not the case today. The taste and quality of the wings have gone down tremendously. I remember many years ago this place was so popular and the chicken wings were a nice size and the sauce all over it was finger-licking good. Now the prices are ridiculously hyped up and the wings are bland and small. High disappointing! read more

I was supposed to receive my order by 1050pm tonight. When 1115 came I decided to call the CLUCK U in South Orange NJ to inquiry about my order. The first thing the idiot on the phone said to me was "That order was delivered a long time ago". Already pissed, I repeated numerous times --- my order never arrived. The fool on the other end of the line them called the driver who claimed she had delivered my order - had rang the bell and left the order outside. By the way, I have a RING device at my door. The minute someone steps on my steps it alerts my husband and I directly ---to our phones. We have no recording of anyone delivering my order. Long story short - after talking to the driver who was basically full of shit and then calling the restaurant back - only to be insulted as the idiot in the other end now stated that his driver doesn't lie. As if I was making up this story. How unprofessional! What a joke! I will NEVER order from CLUCK U in South Orange NJ again EVER! How disgraceful is it that now I have to wait for my money to be returned to my account because an establishment that I thought stood by their commitment to customers really is a low level badly organized company that really doesn't give a dam about their customers. Shame on you! And to the driver who claimed she left the food outside at the door without confirming receipt---you may want to try a new line of work. Anyone with A brain knows never to leave anything for delivery without confirming with the recipient. Bad business. read more

So-so chicken wings. Somehow these are not the same as the wings I remember from the Cluck U Chicken at Rutgers New Brunswick. The chicken comes in multiple levels of spiciness: - Mild - Atomic - Nuclear - Etc... Unfortunately, the wings are a little too soggy for my taste after they put the sauce on. Cluck U can provide either Ranch or the standard Blue Cheese dip for the chicken. Somehow we didn't get any celery or carrot sticks with our order. They would have gotten 1 STAR but the Potato Wedges redeemed them. These fries were perfect -- hot, crispy, tasty... I love heart clogging food, it thats what you're looking for come to Cluck U. First I don't like this place because I've experienced terrible service before. I gave them another chance after almost 3 yrs and again trashy experience. I order on ubereats at 10:00pm. It said food should arrive by 10:40-11pm. It's now 12:09 as I am writing this review and the food is not here. When I called the restaurant at 10:37 they young lady who is very ghetto and "ratchet" (extremely ghetto), was upset that I called and asked about my order, to make matters she could not find the order. She says they will make it and hangs up. 11:30 I call back ask how long for the order, in a rushing tone the ghetto young lady told me give her a few minutes and was on her to hang up the phone. I told her excuse me I gave you an hr already, how much longer. She sucks what few good teeth she has in her mouth which I'm sure is attached to some what bald head and small brain she has and proceeds to put me on hold. I hold and mute my phone. The ghetto girl yells "he ova da fuckin eating cake". I say hello hello no answer. I didnt even call back because ratchet ghetto girl was so pissed I thought they might spit in my food.it's 12:16 no food. Don't eat here. Unless you want 2.5hrs, be disrespected and provided less then disgusting customer service. TERRIBLE!! read more

Person who takes orders does not do his job well, cannot even read your order back to you with competence. Took over an hour to deliver. They screwed up my sandwich which I was not able to eat (I confirmed w/ them several times on the phone what I wanted on my sandwich). I called, they agreed to give me a credit. Next time I tried to order, they said the credit was $2.50 on an $8.00 sandwich. The person on the phone sheepishly told me only the owner could deal w/ credits. Suprise...owner was not there, not sure when he will be. No manager either. Plus, their wings (which is their signature item) were overcooked and rubbery. When you make a mistake, own up to it & don't nickel & dime your customers. Sure way to lose business. They lost mine. Cancelled my order & will never return. Very good plain fried and honey flavored chicken. Nice and crispy and not too greasy. Salad was fresh and plentiful. Fries were less soggy than other delivery places because they line the containers with foil. They were out of a lot of the side options when I placed the order at 5 :40 pm. It took about an hour to arrive so I guess they're pretty busy at the time. Overall good experience and will order again. read more

Man this place went downhill. Used to be the king of wings and fast orders. Now there food is expensive and tasteless. I ordered for delivery at 10 pm, my food didn't come until 12:30 am. I asked for a discount, the manager said I can get 5$ off on my next order. There won't be a next order. I should have gotten that food free. 2 and a half hours is ludicrous to wait. They said their printers broke so they couldn't really make the orders. I used to deliver. Our machines broke one time, yet we were still cranking out great service and food and not making customers wait 2 hours for food. Stay away from this place. Much better options in the area. read more

The quality of this place has definitely gone down the drain. The food is so flavorless now. I was in there waiting for my food and all you hear is the cooks cursing like a sailor. While waiting for my food a young guy comes in an ask if they were hiring. 5 he cashier looks at him and then say no. There was a huge sign on the window that said otherwise. Smh. Then after finally getting my food I checked inside and they gave me the wrong item. I ordered a chicken empanada and they gave me beef. I don't eat beef at all. So I went back in the store and told then the cashier with an unapologetic look on her face just looked back with a smirk and told the cook that was suppose to be chicken and you made beef. Then they just said ok we will make another one. So I had to sit and wait for them to make my order over no apology or anything. Finally I get my order and it is disgusting.
