I've been here a couple of times with work people, mostly because one guy I work with loves the place and insists on dragging us there. 99 On York is a private club. Members only. Of course in practice all this means is that they scan your ID at the door and isue you with a free guest membership for the night.
This is a cavernbous barn of a place (licesed to seat 475 I noticed on the door as I went in). Not exactly intimate. The feel is very much suburban RSL club. It has been recently renovated but that just makes it feel like recently renovated suburban RSL club. There are 3 levels of bar and a couple of places to eat.
The drink selection is very conventional. The craftiest beer they had was Coopers Pale in bottle. On tap its strictly mainstream. Spirits likewise. Mind you.... its cheap. A round of beer, whisky and ouzo and coke (don't ask.. it was late and we'd all had a few) was only $17.
Even on a Friday night, the place only ever has a few people in it. I have no idea how they manage to stay in business. If you want somewhere quiet to talk and don't mind drinking New, then you could do worse.
The price and its quietness are its only attractions though. There are a dozen much better venues within spitting distance so don't bother. read more
