I've taken classes with Annika, Don, Kiernan, Raquel, and a few other people, all of whom have welcomed me and answered any questions I had. I also love the variety of classes. There is so many different types of classes to try! The abundance of classes at a variety of times makes it easy to find something (I have a pretty busy, varied work schedule). I am about to move to another state and I'm super sad to leave Centered City Yoga. I hope to find a place as great as here.

After years of yoga and barre, I…read moredon't consider myself particularly "unfit" but man, Olivia kicked my butt in reformer this morning. Those pulsing lunges, the inner thigh work... I am dying. Dying! But dying in a good way. Like, I can't wait to start seeing the results like, 'hello, miss new booty'. Pilates is damn expensive in general - like $25 -$30 for a drop in class expensive. But Core Body is so confident you'll like it that they give you your first week free, then a new student special of $99 for the first month of unlimited classes. The only reason I'm doing 4 starts instead of 5 is that, being new to reformer Pilates, I would appreciate a bit more instruction on how to use the machines and (eh hem) modify, because like I said earlier, it is effing difficult when you're just starting out.

The Vibe: Release…read more Anna walked over while I was taking photos of the studio. She smiled. Welcomed me in. Checked me in. Showed me around. Good start. By the time everyone settled onto their mats, Anna asked: "Is there anything you'd like to focus on today?" One yogi answered without hesitation. "Release." The whole room smiled. Same. One collective Om. A few Sun Salutations. Then we were off. The Guide: Anna Murray * Express 45 Anna guided us through a few Sun Salutations before gradually stepping back and letting us move through several on our own. There was no stopping. One posture became the next. One breath became the next. Before I knew it... we were halfway through. Once the body was warm, the invitations began. Side Angle. Half Bind. Full Bind. Bird of Paradise. You could stay exactly where you were... or keep opening. The music carried everything forward. Beach House. Rhye. ODESZA. Gregory Alan Isakov. Then, almost unfairly... it was time to come down. Forty-five minutes. Gone. At the end of class, Anna invited us to bask in our wholeness, our worthiness, the steadiness of our being, and then encouraged us to carry that presence into the rest of our day. The Tribe After class, I lingered. Showered. Wandered back to the lobby. Started talking. Dance came up. Anna had danced with the Salt Lake City Ballet. Another yogi studied modern dance. Of course. That explained a few things. Yoga keeps introducing me to fascinating people. Different paths. Same practice. Same willingness to open. Space & Place This studio deserves its own section. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the Wasatch Mountains. Living artwork. During class, the mountains never leave your peripheral vision. They're a part of the practice. My favorite yoga room. By far. The Takeaway Halfway through class, I caught myself thinking: "I don't want this to end." Open. Present. Moving. Apparently...that's what release feels like. Field Note: We don't release to let go. We release to stay open. What you should know: Heat: Warm enough to open. Warm enough to sweat. Music: Beach House. Rhye. LCD Soundsystem. ODESZA. Gregory Alan Isakov. Class Style: Forty-five minutes. No wasted motion. Amenities: Gorgeous studio. Great showers. Good luck not taking photos. Great For: Busy people. Beautiful flow. Back to your day. More open.

Candance considered everyone's input on what body parts to focus on working out for our session, gave helpful modification tips to each individual, and chose music that wasn't distracting. This Point Pilates location offers plenty of natural lighting and a very clean space. This was my favorite pilates class I've taken at any studio in SLC by far. I have some physical limitations and Candance was able to work with me. While staying safe, I felt challenged, and I learned that having a small class with an instructor who pays attention to each person is invaluable.

The Vibe: Embodied Trust…read more Before class, Betsy welcomed me, got me checked in, walked me into the studio, & explained the class. Three flows. Each building on the last. The room was already dark. Already warm. We began kneeling at the back of our mats. Not moving. Just breathing. A short meditation. Stillness first. Then flow. The Guide: Betsy McKinney * B-Fire 60 The first flow was simple. Then another layer. Then another. Every round became a little longer. A little richer. Confession...my mind got a little nervous. "How am I supposed to remember all of this?" Betsy kept teaching. My body kept listening. Field Note: The body pays attention the whole time. She demonstrated. The flow never stopped. One of my favorite surprises? A Fallen Triangle push-up. New pose. New pathway. As we settled into savasana... Cool towel. Light scent. Perfect timing. The Tribe With only six or seven yogis in the room, the practice felt surprisingly intimate. We faced one another in mirrored rows. Twisting. Turning. Moving in opposite directions. Somewhere in there, I stopped thinking about the sequence... And only noticed the rhythm of the group. Space & Place The lobby: Bright. Playfully curated. The yoga room: Dim. Warm. The restroom: Spotless. The Takeaway At the very end of class, Betsy honored... the light and the dark within herself. Then the light and the dark within each of us. Not just the pretty, curated parts. The whole human being. Mind. Body. Spirit. Learning from all of it. What a beautiful mirror. Field Note: Wholeness leaves nothing out. Studio Notes: Warm, dark room Best for intermediate to experienced yogis. Familiarity with yoga pose names will help with the fast-paced flow. Beat-driven music Three progressive flows leading into free flow P.S. FREE swag. Fun B Hive stickers. (Who doesn't love free swag?) I also treated myself to "Fresh Outta Fucks" lotion.
