We dropped in on a Monday afternoon right around noon. The host is incredibly friendly and genuine. He gave good details on the wine and even poked fun at their own wine descriptions. He said not to take them too seriously and that it didn't matter; either you like the wine or you don't. Couldn't agree more myself. Wine tastings are complimentary. They had a summer sale on their sauvignon blanc for $22.00 AUD (regularly $30.00 AUD). Pretty good but we had limited space in our bags. They also do a whisky tasting ($15.00 AUD) where they were showcasing three types of Hellyers Road Whisky. Interesting. For food, there's a black chalkboard with half a dozen options available. - 2016 vintage sparkling - 2016 sauvignon blanc - 2016 chardonnay - 2016 sweet riesling - 2016 pinot noir A bit off the beaten path but with that you get a less touristy spot. Likewise, you can try the Leaning Church wines at Lark Hill if you are in Hobart. The added attraction of this place is that it's off the beaten track, set high on a hill surrounded by incredible views. They've established themselves as a location for weddings and receptions, with, you guessed it, a leaning church on site, manicured grounds and an expansive marquee to cater for your reception. They are [business] married with nearby Lilydale Larder, so any food available there, is also available here, if you order ahead. Cheese platters always available, without pre-ordering. Less crowds and a far nicer outlook here (than at the Larder). Highly recommend this place.

There is a lot of interesting history to the winery and there in the tasting room to see. For us the wines were of a style we enjoyed. We dropped in on a Monday afternoon (around 1:15pm). The inside has a spacious tasting room (with even a few stools to sit at) and a cute courtyard with bean bags. Too bad their restaurant was currently being renovated but there's a food truck outside (open from Friday to Sunday). The only food they had was a cheese box ($22.50 AUD). Wine tastings are $5.00 AUD/person but you can try whatever you'd like from the list. They only had one that we couldn't try because it was sold out. Tasting fee is waived if you buy a bottle. There's Ninth Island, Pipers Brook and Kreglinger wines; a total of 15 wines. Both hosts were friendly and gave a nice description of each wine. We ended up sampling 8 wines. - NV Ninth Island sparkling - our first one turned out to be our favourite. We bought a bottle ($25.00 AUD). It was only a few minutes away from our first winery so we decided to stop for a visit. We dropped in on a Monday afternoon (around 12:15pm) and were the only patrons. Their setup is a little more old school with no description sheets. Instead, the host first gave a background on each bottle then further insight while we drank each tasting. He was an older fellow but I liked his old school style. He was very into pairing food with wine. Wine tastings are $5.00 AUD/person but the fee is waived if you buy a bottle. There was 6 tastings available so obviously we tried them all. Interestingly, they have all the wines set up to come out of a tap. He also didn't bother to change our glass or rinse it when we switched from white to reds. - 2017 Providence "monet" riesling - 2016 Providence "monet" riesling - this was my favourite of the two rieslings and out of all the wines we tasted. Less sweet than the 2017 but much smoother and with a better finish. - 2013 Providence "miguet" chardonnay - 2008 Providence cécile pinot rosé - 2011 Providence pinot noir - 2012 Providence "miguet" pinot noir If you're into old school, traditional wines, then Providence Vineyards is your spot.
