In July, 2025, Closet Factory came in and did the final of four closets in our house. Each one of our closets is designed a little bit differently according to what we needed. It was a pleasure to work with both Harris and Joaquin to accomplish this project. On both workdays, demolition, and then install, the workers that they sent out were very competent. This final closet is located in what is currently used as an office space. Therefore the closet has lots of wonderful shelves. With the possibility of this room, eventually becoming a bedroom, there is the option to change out this configuration, so that it becomes a clothes closet. We could not be happier! Turns out the cost of the pull outs from CF is just a little more than getting the materials from container store (which would have been a DIY project). I called Closet Factory because of their high reviews on Google. I also wanted to use a more "mom and pop," rather than a huge closet company. My last experience with a giant company wasn't too great; I was hooked by one of the "40% off + free install" flyers in the mail. The work quality wasn't good, the installers were grumpy, and there were several big issues with the install. I called Closet Factory and spoke to Joaquin. It was very clear very quickly that he takes great pride in not only his job, but the company he works for. I explained my circumstances: that we had just moved, I was expecting, and that we were in a time crunch. He worked hard to get our closet install scheduled before the baby's due date. He also said the owner of the company would be coming out to perform the consultation. He boasted about the owner, Harris, and Harris' ability to design. I was really confident hanging up the phone that day. Fast forward weeks later, Harris shows up - with graph paper and a pencil. No fancy computer programs, no 3D renderings, just pencil and paper. He took measurements and then sketched a couple renditions for me. To say this man is talented would be an understatement. He's an engineer and an artist - the perfect balance of logic and aesthetic - exactly what you want when someone is designing such an intimate space for you. The installers showed up last week. Two of the nicest men, so professional and so kind. I saw them making cuts and taking measurements and they treated the process like a science. I am 100% over the moon with the way this closet turned out. No messy glue lines, no crooked cuts, no weird gaps between panels. It is perfect. I got what I paid for years ago with the massive closet company. Don't get fooled by mailer coupons. It's not a better deal. This is quality work and quality customer service. Buyer Beware! We recently bought cabinets and a counter top for a home office from Harris Steinberg, owner of Closet Factory in Oxnard. Harris Steinberg who is also the sales representative and designer came to our home armed with a glossy catalog and product samples. After discussing with Harris our desire to design an office that would complement our Craftsmen's style home, Harris drew the design. We paid extra for the Shaker doors we ordered for the cabinets. When the unit was installed we immediately noticed that when the keyboard tray was open it blocked the top desk drawer. In addition the unit was designed with a 35 inch cubby hole making it impossible to buy store bought runners for our hardwood floors. The quality of the cabinets was no better than anything you would buy at a Big Box store but cost substantially more. The Shaker doors stood out, but not in a good way, when attached to these substandard cabinet boxes. The white Shaker cabinet doors were a different color from the cabinet box. The crew left without patching or painting the nails used to secure the cabinets. When we wrote to Harris to express our disappointment with the quality of the materials used and the installation he agreed to come out and look at the cabinets. After two phone calls we were finally able to set a date for him to come out. He came into the office, plunked himself down on one of our office chairs and rebutted every concern we raised. At one point he raised his hands over his head and said, "There's nothing I can do about that." He did concede that the crews should have finished patching and painting the nails. Needless to say we were very disappointed with Harris's attitude. It was almost like he was saying, "Too bad you picked it. " Please learn from our mistake and don't just look at the brochure. Ask to see a finished product before you commit to buying anything from this company. Or better yet, just buy something from Home Depot or Ikea. It's about the same quality. read more

Closet Factory installed my master closet after a water pipe broke and ruined the closet that was there when I purchased my house 9 years ago. The closet now is what I had always wanted. Loads of storage, place for my shoes, purses, drawers for items that I had in a Ikea hanging storage thing. The designer I worked with was thorough and had plenty of ideas. Working together we chose what was best for the master closet (not a large master closet by the way). It took a bit of time to have the different pieces built before it was installed. Once it was ready the workers arrived on time and got to work. They did a tremendous job of installing and making sure everything was right. It was perfect when they finished. Called to inquire on a Wednesday, Harris showed up the following morning to measure and calculated the quote in person. Once we decided to proceed, he called Joaquin and scheduled installation on the spot. The closet was installed within four weeks and was beyond our expectations. The panels were installed seamlessly with our base boards. Everything is adjustable, so I can adjust the height of each hanger and shelf. I am happy with the installation process and the factory manager who was very responsive to my needs. The installation guy was very polite, on time and did a good job. However, very unhappy with the design. I had Artie, and specifically told her that we need more storage space. I was very disappointed with the 12-inch-deep shelves we got while there is enough room to go deeper. They did put 16-inch draws but 12-inch shelves! I am puzzled why? I was told it is my fault because I signed off on the design. I am not in the closet business to catch those things, and the design was a hand drawn piece of paper, not a 3-D. Anyway, I wish the options on the depth of the shelves were clearly explained to me, and the available space was utilized more efficiently. Disappointed. read more

HARRIS designed every single one of our bedroom closets and made the most of our awkward spaces, added little touches to make it extra special. Several months after our bedroom closets were done we decided to re-do our Hallway linen closets too as they were old and needed some major refreshing. We called Closet Factory on a Tuesday, JOAQUIN was able to answer all of my questions and said that Harris would come and measure the closets for us. Harris arrived punctually, as promised, on the Wednesday and took all the necessary measurements, by Friday the installer had put them all together and completed his fabulous work. Wow! So quick! That's what I call service. Closet Factory installed faster than other companies were able to give us a quote. They are professional, friendly, efficient and on it! Had them put in custom closets in our newly renovated home. We had a detailed discussion with the sales person who came to our home and helped us choose what we needed in our closets based on the amount of clothes and shoes we owned. Once the closets were installed we were surprised by the poor quality. All of the edges are very sharp and you have to be mindful to not accidentally cut yourself on them. One of the rods was installed wrong and the incorrect pulls were placed on the drawers so we called the company to come fix the issues and it was very difficult scheduling this with them. The closets are decent but there are much nicer ones out there. Overall would not use them again. read more

He came back a second time to help with colors and finishes! He actually picked the perfect combination of finishes. EDIT: The original gentleman I spoke with called next day apologized for my experience and offered for owner to company to come out to help me. I said I would think about it. I decided since owner was son of man I had experience with that it would just not be a comfotable experience. Decided to go with another company. The gentleman who came out for a consult was a jerk. I wanted to enclose a space to make a closet. He walked in with shoes on after I asked him not to and stepped on clothing I was folding in the room. I told him after he was very negative about lack of space that I had other quotes but wanted to see what ideas he had for me. He basically told me that I should go with another contractor if I wanted to build a wall...which I didnt. I asked if he had other options for me and he said no. Joaquin called me the next day and from that point until the installation was complete yesterday everything was first class. Harris is a mensch (look it up, if you don't know what it means), and he shows up early for every appointment. The men who installed the items, including a large cabinet with cubbies, shelves, and drawers in a walk in closet, and pantry shelving in a tricky spot, were professional in all respects. Recently we moved from Thousand Oaks to Santa Maria. The new place in Santa Maria is cute but (had) absolutely no storage to speak of! In Thousand Oaks I hired the Closet Factory in 1999 to get some help in a small bedroom. The designer, Harris, came out and in no time at all designed a very workable solution - especially to accommodate my many, many pairs of shoes! In 2014 I again called the Closet Factory to help with the master bedroom in Thousand Oaks, which I had hoped would include a sewing table. Again, Harris came out and designed a beautiful layout, including a "hidden" roll-top sewing table, which could also be used as a desk. Now, living in Santa Maria I was not sure that the Closet Factory would come this far north! Of course, when I called, the answer was "yes," and again.....Harris came! He designed a complete wall of storage in the master bedroom - closet, two desk areas with computer keyboard, file cabinets, drawers and overhead cabinets! My husband and I cannot be more pleased and we even have one cabinet to spare! This is the kind of business everyone would be happy to deal with.
