Set in what seems like the attic of this yellow, thatched, quaint pub, Duke's restaurant seats about 30 maximum. It is like a hidden little gem overlooking Lucan village and, if it is quiet, like your own little getaway. The staff here are very accommodating and always available for your attention. I have sampled a variety of dishes here with no complaints, all tasty. I particularly enjoy the ceasar salad, which has the lightest, yet crispiest croutons I have come across. Downstairs you will find a nice quaint pub with quiet areas to sit in small or larger groups. Bar food is reasonable, if not a little bland. The menu for the bar rarely changes and chicken can be often dry. However, if you make a complaint, the staff here cannot do enough to help rectify the situation. I think this may have something to do with the hands-on management, with the proprietor regularly on site. Food is better in Duke's than in the bar.

I've been bartending most of my life, the bartenders ran the other way when I came up to the bar to order another beer. I tried to catch their/her eye: say what you want, I'm a bartender and I know when people don't wanna wait on you, very unfriendly I did try to speak up to the bartender. She very curtly said - "I can't read your mind" The sweetness they (she and her coworker) gave every other customer was obvious. I'm not sure what triggered her unkind behavior to me but it was palpable,unfriendly and put a sad ending to my first time in Ireland

Set right on the canal just outside of Celbridge is this gorgeous pub. Full of walkers who have come along the canal on a stroll with their dogs plus lots of locals and even some lucky houseboat owners. We also ordered a side of battered onion rings. We could have done without the sides as neither of us finished our meals as the portions were so big. My other half also ordered warm apple pie with ice cream for dessert (I don't know how but he managed to finish every bit). All this plus a coke and one pint cost less than €40. So reasonable but yet the food was soo good! The layout is nice as they have some little cubby areas to sit away from people watching the big screans. All the staff were soo friendly, we had a laugh and a joke with them! There is parking in the back of the pub however it only facilates a small number of cars and you need to ask for a permit to pop in your window. The one thing I think that separates Murphys from other carverys is the fact they always have four or more types of meat to choose from. You are not limited to pork loin, roast beef, or whatever a normal carvery is having that day. They always offer roast beef, pork loin, and turkey crown everyday, so you can always be sure to have something you haven't had already that week. They are also right down the road from HP and Intel, so for those of us who work in Leixlip or find themselves on-site there its pretty handy sure.

It seems so long ago…read morethat I remember having my first pint there in what seemed, to a young man, like a dark outpost, far away from all civilisation. It was not without it's charms. Today, or post refurbishment, the pub has managed to remain a classic pub, retaining all the values things that made it and make it so good. The Guinness is among the tastiest in Dublin. The staff are great. Dropping pints down to you, clearing tables and asking "How's the father?" In top of this, there's never (excluding the rare band appearance) loud music playing. The only thing you have to talk over is the sound of other folk, having the best conversation they've had all week. So do yourself a favour. Call up that friend you're about to lose touch with, and get down to the Alley.
