It can sit about 300 with a large bar area or host 15 to 20 stands during a promotion event inside. There is a sizeable outside area that has vehicle access and can be used for vans or cars used in the event. There is limited street park and very close to the Alfred hospital so parking can be difficult. There quick access from trams on St,Kilda Rd or buses in Punt Rd. This is a great place to hold the right function.

Situated next door to the now "Project" (ex Belgian Beer Garden Bluestone), it's close to tram's so getting there is a breeze from Flinders Street. The theatre was packed and everyone was in the highest of spirits. A special hats off has to go to all the theatre and bar staff who were really entertaining and friendly people. Whilst the bar might not be much to look at or not even that substantial, they did an admirable job of breathing live into it and making sure everyone was happy. This would be a great spot for anybody planning a small to medium sized production.

Chapel Off Chapel is a space that tries to do a lot. Two theatres, a bar, an art gallery, and…read moreprobably several other things, it's got something for most tastes. The contents of the venue change quite regularly - different shows, exhibitions and whatnot all get a look-in. The bar is fairly nondescript, but functional if you're looking for a basic beer or wine and a packet of crisps. Keep an eye on the show schedule though, there have been some great talents through here (Coldplay, anyone?).

Contemporary art & theatre in a wonderful setting…read more Went west to catch a highly rated play "Cain & Abel" which whilst disturbing was a revelation. But this isn't a review of the play, the theatre space was fantastic (an aisle on the right of the stage would be handy as you have to hop over other patrons legs), seating a lot but every seat with a view. Stage massive and could suit large productions. Gallery space downstairs fantastic with a number of rooms able to show works by different artists. Again a great use of an old building's space. Bar a little ordinary with one red & 2 whites to choose from & your standard fare, wine only average at $8 a glass. Wonderful space I'll be visiting again.

When I was growing up, it was derelict and home to many homeless and winos. And of course the fascination to kids all around. All the "cool kids" would break in to throw rocks at the window, or so my cool older sister would tell me. I was too busy at trombone practice. Newly renovated to resemble a New York loft, the substation is opened for business. Ideal for many functions, current uses are performances, art shows and markets. I do believe they can host wedding, though I'm not sure they have kitchen facilities. All in all, it's a modern building with multiple uses. The only (major) downfall is there is no aircon. Meaning during summer it can and does get extremely hot. And for that reason, it's 3, not 4 stars.

I was definitely irritated and out of breath by the time I made it to my seat lol. If you require one, definitely ask before you start walking. I saw people with drinks, water, and cocktails during intermission. The venue has charm I'm just unsure about its accessibility.

Not a huge theater but still not small. Parking can be the fun bit especially if your not familiar with the area, always good to check out the option prior to getting there. They have a good selection of foods And drinks to enjoy while watching the show they are a little on the expensive side but it's what you expect when going out really. The seats are a bit old but are in theme with the decor of the theater. The other facilities are nice, there clean and easily accessible depending on the crowd at the time. Would happily come back and see another show.

While visiting in Melbourne, my husband and I saw The Lion King at Regent Theatre. The theatre…read moreitself looks historical and grand, with dramatic lighting and heavy drapery in the main area when you first walk in. Flanked by a staircase on either side, the ushers directed us up the right-hand side staircase to where we would be further directed to our seats. There was a bar both upstairs and downstairs that served Lion King themed libations, as well as kiosks to purchase official merchandise. They wave programs in your face and when you express interest you learn they're $20 (yikes!), so I opted for the $15 coffee mug instead that will last me a heck of a lot longer than a paper program. The theatre itself is gorgeous inside, with ample stadium seating so that everyone has a clear view of the stage no matter how far away. Once of the biggest and only downsides to Regent Theatre is the lack of knee/leg room in case you need to get up during the show. There is LITERALLY no room to squeeze by your neighbour - they will need to stand up to let you by which understandably gets annoying very quickly. The speakers and sound was brilliant, the orchestra brought tears to my eyes, and the actors themselves were stunning. The woman who played Rafiki had one of the most moving voices I have ever heard in my entire life - she really helped bring my most special childhood movie to life. It was a beautiful evening of unforgettable stage design, songs and visual imagery. I would definitely return to Regent Theatre to see another show if ever back in town.

The location of the Centre proved to be quite a challenge to designer Ashton Raggatt McDougall, being situated on post war sloping hills and uneven ground he had to come up with something special in order to achieve acoustic quality. The building seems to be covered in an irregular honeycomb shaped pattern giving it a shell like texture. At night time light escapes through some of these shells and makes for a beautiful structural appearance. The Recital Centre showcases a range of different performances from stage shows to music performances and even has some amazing artwork displayed on level 1. You can organise to have a guided tour of the MRC in which you will be atken throughout the building and can learn all about the design of the performance spaces, appreciate the artwork and explore backstage. The tours will set you back $15 full price and $10 for concession and they last usually about 1 hour, well worth it if you have time and are wanting to explore Melbourne.

While I was walking around Collingwood's gallery district I saw this little gallery. There are…read morestreet signs with an orange circle pointing down the section of street that there is a gallery on. And in the gallery district that is practically every street. And the galleries have these metal signs with the same image and the word gallery on them. I hadn't been in the Cambridge Studio Gallery before. It is new, only three years old. It is a very attractive series of white walled spaces in a renovated, heritage-listed Collingwood brick house. The redesign has done the best with the narrow space; there is a ground floor space and another gallery space on the mezzanine floor. There is a bit of a kitchen office area, where a woman was working, out the back of the ground floor, but as a gallery visitor I didn't more than a glance at that. It is probably worth visiting this gallery just to see the attractively renovated space. Unfortunately the paintings in the exhibition that I saw were not good; certainly not as attractive as the space they are hung in. I suspect that it is a rental space gallery where the space is rented out to artists for exhibitions, although the gallery does have a stockroom of art that they have previously exhibited.
