This is our go-to restaurant when we don't want to cook dinner, as we live not far from here. The ambience is wonderful. When you walk in, greet the waiters, and then they'll tell you (in German) to sit wherever you like. We've had a couple different waiters by now. As a rule, most Germans speak at least limited English, as they learn it in school. If you see a younger-looking German (under 30), you can bet they are fluent. Watch out for Reserviert signs on tables, as these are taken. There is a separate smoking section in the far back of the restaurant. The second bar is in this section as well. If you don't like smoke at all, I would sit in the first area when you walk in. The wine and beer are both delicious. We've tried the Dunkel, Hefe, Riesling Trocken, and I think some red (Rot) as well. Wonderful! The pours are generous and the prices cheap. The food is also delectable. The pizza is AWESOME! They provide flavored olive oil and it is topped with arugula (Rucola). They also have a local specialty every night/week written in chalk all over the restaurant. One week it was a Pfalz bratwurst dish. I had one of the traditional Pfalz meat-salad dishes (beef "salat" cubed served cold with vinegar), and it was very good. The salads in general are very good and very large (some come in small and large sizes). They also serve coffees and gelato. Glocken Café is a wonderful little spotted tucked away in a quieter area, just a couple blocks off the walkplatz. The regulars are all locals from the walking area. The place is delightfully loud, with groups of older Germans animatedly catching up with friends. We love it, and I know you will, too.

Terrible Service & Meat served as Vegetarian…read more I am beyond disgusted with my experience at Cafe Extrablatt Kaiserslautern (Marktstraße 26, 67655 Kaiserslautern). I have been a dedicated vegetarian for years, and tonight, this restaurant completely violated that. This happened around 6pm-8pm on March 2nd 2026. I ordered a vegetarian burger, but they served me a meat burger instead. Because it was loaded with toppings and sauce, I didn't realize the mistake until I was almost finished. When I brought this to their attention, the service went from bad to predatory. The waiter, Shahem, was incredibly rude. Instead of an apology for the kitchen's massive error, I was met with hostility. Apparently, the Manager (who didn't even have the courage to come speak to me directly) told Shahem to suggest that I "knew it was meat all along" and was just making a fuss to get money. To be accused of lying to get a free meal after being forced to break a years-long vegetarian streak is the height of disrespect. It is disturbing and disgusting that management would rather gaslight a customer than take responsibility for a kitchen error. They "allowed" me not to pay for the burger as if they were doing me a favor, but forced me to pay for everything else with zero redemption or apology for the distress caused. They didn't just mess up an order; they ruined my dietary streak and then insulted my integrity. Moreover I was not given any receipt nor asked if I want one which is clearly a violation. I only realized after I left. However I do have bank confirmation from my card payment and picture of the food taken at the restaurant before I knew I was served meat. Avoid this place if you have any dietary restrictions, allergies, or if you simply value being treated with basic human decency. They clearly have no standards for food safety or customer service.

I walked in and although they were packed, they sat us immediately. They had a special menu: starter was a vegetable soup, main dish was a Munich-style schnitzel with fries, dessert was like a panna cotta with raspberry and vanilla sauce: all for a reasonable 25 euros. We three ordered the special and were very pleased. The soup was a purred potage of vegetables that was delicious. The schnitzel had a hint of Dijon mustard and possibly honey under the breading. It was equally delicious. The fries were perfectly seasoned and crisp. Dessert was outstanding. It was served with cotton candy floss and a vanilla sauce. All the flavors married perfectly. Service was great. The restaurant's bar is in the hotel lobby which has comfy seating. I'm glad we didn't give up and go home, opting instead to give them a try. It's a new local favorite.

It was so good. I hadn't eaten all day. So, the salad really hit the spot. I asked for the oil and vinegar dressing, but I believe I was giving the French dressing that the salad comes with. It was still perfect! It was a huge portion. But I ate the entire thing. Same with my main dish. No scraps left! It's a neat spot because it's next to a square. There was a rally/demonstration going on while I was eating. Perfect backdrop to a lovely meal.
