I believe him since a search for a clock repair shop comes up with very few listings. This is the second time I've brought my clock that I bought at a craft fair in Tucson to this shop. The first time was minor. Just stuck hands and there was no charge. This time I had them replace the movement altogether. They were able to salvage the original fancy hands so I am well pleased with their work. My sister, who lives in Mooresville, has a huge grandfather clock. Almost the entire cabinet is made out of glass along with the shelves. Moving it is cost prohibitive. House of Clocks will come out to service your grandfather clock if you have the need. They have been out to her house several times to service her clock and once were able to take a section of it back to their shop for repair. As you can see from my photos, they do have clocks for sale. Since I did not buy one this review addresses repair work only. Morgantown is only 15 minutes from the Martinsville Walmart via Hwy 252. While the father helped our friends regarding how to identify the parts needed, my wife and I browsed the shop. It was filled with clocks large (grandfathers and cuckoos) and small (table and display case miniatures). In one case, there was a display of miniature clocks that had antique cars, kitchen products, an airplane, and an antique sewing machine. These clocks were just a few inches in size, but had a working clock strategically located to complement the design. My wife has become quite a wizard when it comes to sewing, so she was immediately drawn to the small sewing machine clock. Being a good husband who has learned to take a cue without too much prompting, I offered to buy the mini clock. The son who is a full partner in the business was very cordial and explained how to set the clock, how to change batteries, and made sure we knew they would be glad to change the battery for us if we were afraid of scratching the finish of the piece trying to get the back cover off. I was happy to find Speedway Clock Repair not too far from my house and when I called, Mark was able to confirm that he and his daughter did work on the type of clock I had. I dropped it off on August 12, 2019, and was given an estimate of 12-16 months until it would be done (gulp!). Yes, this is pretty standard for clock repair. There are so few people still doing it, and it is time consuming work (no pun intended!). I felt better seeing all the really amazing clocks in the shop, and Mark pointed out a few that were over 100 years old. He and his daughter repair grandfather clocks, wall clocks like mine, amazing intricate cuckoo clocks and mantle clocks. I picked up my finished clock on October 2, 2020 and Mark took the time to make sure I knew how to maintain it and helped me pack it safely into my car to take it home. They test all clocks for quite some time before sending them home which is much appreciated. They have a side building just for hanging almost finished clocks to make sure they're keeping good time and running smoothly, and I could then see that my clock was indeed running and chiming again! There is easy parking in an adjacent lot. The cost of the service was incredibly reasonable ($125 for cleaning and lubricating plus all the time testing and adjusting).

The older guy who runs the shop didn't even look at the clock or its works before declaring that the best way to fix the clock was to completely remove the beautiful brass clockwork and chimes, replacing the original works with a cheap Japanese battery powered works with cheesy chimes. God, knows what he would have charged me to make this completely unnecessary conversion. Eventually, took it to another clock shop and the guy said theres nothing wrong with the clock movement, all it needs is lubrication. He oiled it. It works perfectly. And he charged me $25. The guy in Noblesville can't be trusted.
