I had salmon sashimi, tempura broccoli and miso soup, all of which were delicious. (I lived in Japan for several years, so I know). I also ordered a chestnut rice wine and spoke with the folks working here, who are Korean. I've never tried this drink before, even in Korea, and it was a sweet treat, although the serving was too big.

When I was growing up and we would take family road trips in the old 66 Ford Falcon station wagon,…read moreDad would always stop for dinner in small town Chinese restaurants. He said they were always reliable for good food. May Wong's is *certainly* no exception. The atmosphere here is spartan - super bright, clean, almost no decorations, plastic cups, cheap dishes... this is definitely not a high class restaurant, but we were not looking for high class. We wanted good food, and damn did we find it. The pan fried pork dumplings were delicious, the beef chop suey was more gingery than "ginger beef" in any chinese restaurant in Vancouver, and the Singapore vermicelli was perfect. May herself took our orders and served the food with a smile and giggled shyly at complements. May Wong's Chinese Restaurant is definitely worth the stop if you're hungry and passing through Lillooet

The Heartland Family Restaurant is not just for seniors and those who travel with them. This little…read moregem, located just south of the Hwy 97/Hwy 1 junction, is amazing. Since it is en route south to Vancouver, likely most folks have filled up in Cache Creek-hold off for Heartland. Slightly obscured by the big Lordco outlet, you will see the Sandman Inn sign - turn right in - park and be prepared for a yummy meal. I had a late breakfast - Seniors Omelette with cheese and tomato which was out of this world! The home fries, loaded with green onions, bacon and bits of sausage were tasty, hot and a generous portion. Every diner was commenting on those home fries! Licensed, with a good selection of retsinas (for the Greek lunches and dinners), beers, and coolers, and a small but decent shelf of spirits. Decor is a little bit corny, with genuine oilcloth table covers, photos on the walls, and just a really comfortable atmosphere. The slight quirky server was delightful. Clean washroom located in the hotel lobby is worth a visit just to see the very large toilet scrub brush-Paul Bunyan size! Roll in for fresh'n'tasty vittles! Free wi-fi!

Lillooet isn't the world's most bumpin' place, so it didn't take too much to decide to eat here…read more It's located conveniently at a T-intersection as you pull into the town. The restaurant is part of the Reynolds Hotel. Parking is ample, since it looks like everyone walks here. Not a bad thing at all, since the weather here is freaking awesome. When we walked in, it was full of people stuffing their faces on sandwiches, which is always a good sign. The staff were VERY friendly and helpful, which is nice. This is one of the things I really like about smaller towns. People take the time to chat with you. I had the Monte Cristo sandwich with fries. The turkey was dry, but that's to be expected with breast meat. But the egg infused into the bread reminded me of HK-style French toast. The fries weren't quite crispy enough (maybe a bit raw?) but on the other hand, they weren't dripping with oil, which is a good thing. While eating my sandwich, I noticed several people ordering cherry cheesecake ($5.25), so I gave it a go too. This has to be one of the best cheesecakes I've had anywhere. It had just the right amount of sweetness, and the cherry sauce balanced it out PERFECTLY. This is worth a special mention. You will not be disappointed. One last random piece of trivia: Rogers/Fido does NOT get reception here. But Telus/ Bell does. Take that, Rogers. Overall, a nice alternative to Dina's Place, which seems to have hogged the other 90% of the reviews in this town.
