We are very happy with the results, overall. Dave and the team were friendly, professional, and came on time when they said they would. We had them rockscape above our retaining wall, put a potted plant and other plants (all irrigated) with black rocks in our front planter (SO happy with this and they had us pick out the perfect pot online), road base along our driveway and side of house (a game-changer for me as I have balance and mobility issues), and irrigated plants above the retaining wall in our back yard. They had to do hard-core valve work and repair, digging with a bobcat in front to fix the irrigation. This did not increase the price from the estimate. They did a phenomenal job cleaning up. I was amazed at the quality of workmanship. Dave even came back to set the irrigation timer and show me how to do it. This was phase one of two. I definitely recommend them and we are planning to do phase two with them whenever we can save up the money for it. Having said that, due to my inexperience with landscaping, I didn't realize how little coverage there would be over the tarp in the back. Then I found out expected total coverage time to be two years. They said to look at the invoice. I'm not experienced with that sort of thing and would have requested a quote with more initial coverage and less full coverage time. Also, it was tough to get a visual ahead of time for what they're going to do in their quote. You just sort of have to trust all the positive reviews. So just make sure you ask all of your questions before putting your down-payment down. I needed an irrigation line repair and some other minor work. I was told I'd be called Monday 7/14. I had to follow up via 2 office vmails and FB business site. Finally I was contacted by the owner saying his wife would call me tomorrow to schedule. When I asked for clarification I received no prompt response as to whether that meant they were coming tomorrow or they were rescheduling and fobbing me off. Finally I cancelled my request for service and will find another. As a retired commercial landscape operations and Sr Portfolio Account Manager for large and medium sized companies in the Bay Area, if my irrigation or supervisors treated our customers like I was treated they'd be looking for a new job. read more

Called to schedule an appointment and after two calls the wife called back and said that we had to hire a design specialist. They recommended one and I hired her. After $600. For the design that I could pick and choose from (about 6 weeks later) he shows up to confirm the measurements. He leaves after 15 minutes and I never hear from him again. I called and left messages. I asked if he could just let me know if we what was going on and if he was going to help me. He nor his wife ever gave me the courtesy of a phone call, text or email. I never heard from them again. We hired Clifford to do a large landscaping project in our backyard including about .25 acres with paved paths, hardscaping or stone, some raised beds, grass, and plants and trees, and irrigation throughout. Short takeaway, we were entirely satisfied with their work and I'd highly recommend. Their price was about 1/3 less than the leading company in the area and I think their quality is on par with that business. The business owner, Brick, is upfront, honest, and approachable. I'm an artist and my wife is an avid gardner so I think we have high standards and they met our expectations. Their head foreman Dave happened to be a former college student of mine, he was a star student in my design program with a real attention to detail. Design requires a certain temperament. When I saw him on the job site I knew it'd be good and it was. Dave is particularly good at cutting and laying pavers. He's also a good communicator and is knowledgeable about plants and all things landscaping related. This was our first time hiring a company to do a large landscaping project, in the past we did the work ourselves, so we needed to make some changes to the contract along the way. Not Clifford's fault. We wanted some tree and plant holes to be deeper than the standard depth and for the soil to be amended in particular ways. They were happy to oblige and the additional costs that weren't included in the initial bid were reasonable and fair. We've had a few small warranty issues and they've returned to remedy them with no charge. The only negative is that their crew was a little thin at the time, this was about two years ago. I think lots of businesses in the trades have had staffing issues since Covid. So the project was probably completed a little slower than when they're at their peak. We weren't in a rush and Clifford was upfront and accurate about how long it'd take so it didn't bother us. read more

Clifford Landscape came out today to evaluate and make adjustments to my irrigation. I recently purchased my home and it is a hot mess of sprinklers and drip irrigation. I appreciated the attention to showing me what was done which included reducing the redundant watering ad well as replacing and improving what I had. Very annoyed. Although the work that was done was great, my hose bib was damaged and leaking a TON of water after they left. The owner refuses to pay for the fix. On top of an $800 bill, I will have to have a plumber come to fix something that THEY did. read more

Stay away!!! Clifford Landscape was possibly the worst decision we made - set us back financially and with time. First impression was awesome and I really liked Brick and Vicki when they came out to bid irrigation repairs. We moved to our house almost two years ago and have had things pop up broken here and there and it finally became too much to try and fix ourselves so we called them to fix multiple leaks, check the sprinklers, system, and convert to a section to drip. Initially they seemed very knowledgeable, it was when the work was done it went downhill quickly. They came out a total of four times and three of the four times there were different technicians so nothing went smoothly. Here goes: First time - "fixed leaks" thought everything was fine, but they overcharged me for time that they weren't even here. I talked to them about it and they revised bill to match hours worked. Second time - they converted a section to drip (went ok, but they did miss a sprinkler head and since they've done this in April there is now a leak that needs to be fixed on one of the drip parts) They also "fixed" the same leak for the second time and charged me parts/labor again. I paid, that was stupid of me. Third time - "fixed" the same leak - said it was a new leak every time they came out, but they only dug one hole with about a foot diameter under a tree. It was a nasty leak I'll give them that, but that's why we called in the first place - they market themselves as "Irrigation Specialists". They should have been thorough the first one or even two times to catch this. They charged me for this...AGAIN, labor and parts, but this time I didn't pay labor. I told them it was ridiculous they charged me and refused to pay. They said they chose not to do business with me, good riddance, fine by me! BUT that's not even the worst part. We didn't realize it until about a month ago, but during the time they were fixing that pesky leak, they cut the electricity wire to our valve box down below by our pool. Four of our sprinkler stations weren't turning on automatically and we didn't realize why until our plants and lawn started dying. My husband finally went back to look at that leak spot (that is still dug up because they didn't fill it in when they left) and he found the severed wire underground. So, we had another guy look at it and he said that leak will never be able to be fixed because it's too close to tree roots. It was a waste even trying and would always be a band aid that would keep breaking and suggested we move the line out a foot or two and retrench it. This knowledge would have been nice to know from the beginning. Now we have to reseed our lawn, replace plants, and fix our electrical connection to that valve box. As for the original leak, three times later it's still spraying water every time the system goes off. I can't believe how counter productive it was to have them out. I wish I could go back in time and never have them set foot on our property. Fourth time - came out and cap a sprinkler head that was missed when converting to drip system and they didn't charge for labor. Steve, the technician was very nice, I liked him, but I'm not paying for nice, I really wanted the job done right. If you are desperate enough to still use these guys, watch the clock on them, and watch them work (one of the guys we paid hourly was sitting in the van the majority of the time writing stuff down in the shade). read more

Tried to get a estimate from these guys, it took 2 weeks and they changed day twice. Finally got Brick to show up. Its been 5 weeks and at least 10 calls and still have not received my estimate. I would never write a bad review except they kept saying they would get back with me that day or next day and never got call back. Very Rude. I gave a two star, because the apprentice & supervisor Steve were excellent. At this point everything seems to be working. My issue is that I had Brick & Shannon out to give me a bid on a pond. During the conversation, I mentioned if he knew anyone that did irrigation, because I had a small job to change some valves, etc. Brick said he did irrigation work. I asked him what it would cost to do the job, he told me $350 & I said do it. When he arrived he had two others with him & said Steve was training an apprentice. No problem there. To make a long story short, I had a change order to add a battery operated timer, a valve & line for when the pond was put in. It was an additional 2 hrs & I paid for the timers & valve when they were finished. Later that day I got a call (not from Brick) stating I owed them an additional $560. When I asked him how 2 extra hours cost that much, he stated that the $350 was an estimate. He then sent me an itemized bill & he marked up the timer 100% of the cost. I do understand that contractors mark up, but normally around 25%. SO! Make sure you have it in writing the exact amount he has quoted & everything included. I'm sure he would probably do a great job. Sorry to say he lost the pond job & also 168' fence he also gave me a bid on. read more

Clifford Landscaping transformed our very large dirt backyard into paradise. We met with Vickie on several occasions to get our ideas from our head to paper. She was very patient with us and made several corrections to her drawings until we all agreed it was perfect. The crew arrived on the day they promised and ended on the exact day they projected. Our project took five weeks to complete. I cannot say enough good things about the foreman, Dave. Dave has a difficult job. He needs to please us, the homeowner, while keeping the job on schedule, dealing with his crew, coordinating all of the product and deliveries, and timing the entire process to make sure things are done in the right order and done correctly. Dave was VERY patient with us. We didn't make a lot of changes, but we were particular with how things looked every step of the way. Dave made some very helpful suggestions along the way and we always took his recommendations and we don't regret any of them. After all, this is what he does for a living. The crew was AMAZING. Everyone had a great attitude from the first day to the last. On Friday's we bought them lunch to show our appreciation. They treated this project with such pride. All of the guys were exceptional - Steve, Troy, Jonny, Dalton, Garrett were amazing. During the project, we decided to have our front sod replaced. We ended up with over 20,000 square feet of sod installed all together with gopher wire. Besides the sod, we had a dry creek bed installed, a propane fire pit, nearly 100 plants/trees, and a horse shoe pit. Dave and his crew made our dream a reality. read more

Read some good reviews so figured would be safe to have Clifford Landscaping fix my pond. A mistake I will never make again. They sent a man out and I showed him the valves that I thought were the problem. He said he could fix the valves but the problem was a broken float. He couldn't find the float, not that he tried very hard, and told me to call them back when I had cleared some shrubbery around the pond. Charged me $100 and left. I cleared the shrubs and gave them a call. This time I got a different worker who found the float, (nowhere near the shrubs) and told me the float was fine and the problem was indeed the valves. The worker did not have the part he needed so he went to the hardware store and returned with the wrong part. He called his supervisor who came to the house and explained why it was the wrong part. Off to the hardware store again for the correct part. He spent time on his phone googling how to fix the problem. When the task was complete I was surprised to see a bill for $235. I had paid for the ineptness of the worker and a 30 minute roundtrip to the hardware store for the wrong part. When I talked to the owner he said the worker had not dealt with 1/4 inch hoses often and that was why he had trouble. He did not offer to refund my money for the trip to the store for the wrong part, or the time wasted with the supervisor explaining why the purchased part would not work, which would have been the professional thing to do. At least he called me back in a timely manner. I should have learned my lesson with the bill for the first trip that accomplished nothing, but hopefully this review will help others avoid a horrible experience. read more

I had Clifford Landscape out yesterday to replace a valve that wasn't working. First good impression: the technician (Jason) noticed that the wiring was disconnected (we had tried to fix the thing ourselves a few weeks back, to no avail, and had left it unattached) and he suggested, hopefully, that perhaps that was all that needed fixing--reattach the wiring. Unfortunately, that did not resolve the problem, so he quickly and efficiently replaced the valve. Nice. As he worked, I talked to him about our old timer and what we might replace it with, and described a few additional issues with drip heads, sprayers, and a soaker line we have. He reviewed the irrigation, made a few suggestions, and quickly replaced a few drip heads. He walked the yard with me, cleaned out several sputtering spray heads, replaced a couple, and reviewed the spray pattern of the lawn sprinklers, noting that there was insufficient coverage in the middle of the lawn. We talked about a solution and he advised me on the efficiency of the rotating, fan-type sprinkler heads. All in all, I was impressed with his professionalism and efficiency. It was a great experience. I didn't have time to have him complete what I wanted done, so he's coming back. I'll update. read more

I met with Vicki one time, very knowledgeable and we decided to get someone else involved who knew a little more about drainage systems, which I was very thankful for. They came back to my house, without telling me, proceeded to go into my garage without anyone's permission, tripped my alarm system causing RPD to respond, and then failed to call me back. Of course, I understand mistakes happen so I just waited for them to call me. Once I finally called them, they said they would not give us a bid or work with us, because of how the situation was handled. Now I realize mistakes happen, no apology was offered, and I am sorry but this day in age, when my burglary alarm is going off, and I am unable to respond, it has to be taken seriously. Overall, I think they are knowledgeable and likely good at what they do, however their customer service skills, and respect for entering someone's home without permission is lacking. A business should ever enter someone's home without their permission. read more
