A lot of the art has a theme of music. Stained glass guitars, saxophones, musical quotes and much more. As a music lover, I enjoy looking at visual art that represents instruments, but I usually have to search really hard to find it in a collection. Yet this gallery is truly specialized. The prices are reasonable and there is quite a large range, so whether you want a souvenir from Cleveland (like I did) or a centerpiece of art for your home then this is the place to go. The owner also provides an option to get custom work made at the shop AND he does repairs for crystal art. I was not in the buying mood when I walked into this shop. In fact, I just wanted to see some free art. I ended up buying a beautiful coaster for $14, but if I lived closer and wasn't on a road trip then I would definitely buy a stained glass piece to display at home.

Here's why: It is in the lower level of an historic building, in the "East Center" of Richfield, i.e. the geographical center. This was the main stagecoach stop between Cleveland and Akron, and this is in the original building. Geoff Somerville knows all this, but he rarely bores you with any of that stuff, choosing rather to find out where your interests lie and whether he might have something that you would like to take home with you. Somerville's has a whole bunch of stuff, rather casually displayed. Books. Housewares. Art. Some of it is really old, as in many hundreds of years, while much of what is on sale is "mid-century modern" for the Jetsons lover in all of us. I saw a great accordion, an amazing book on steam boilers (well, some of us have rather peculiar tastes) and some beautiful leaded glass signs. I think Richfield has become such a bedroom community that some of the unique flavor of the town has been swept under the rug. Somerville's survives as local color, with charm, grace and wit. SERVICE -- I didn't see much guidance so you'll be on your own as you navigate your way around which can be overwhelming so keep that in mind. Also, the parking lot is very large so it may take you some time of driving around before you even find a spot. WINTER HOLIDAY MARKET -- I arrived for their winter holiday market. There were probably over 100 vendors (small businesses) inside the factory selling all sorts of items from candles, to artwork, pottery, t-shirts, etc. I also noticed a small section of food vendors. There is so much to see here that I suggest not coming in on an empty stomach. I hadn't eaten lunch when I arrived and I was starving so I left after 30 mins while my friend Christina left before me because of the large amount of people around. Quick walk to restaurants, the tow path trail, the national park store and other shops and galleries. This building had been a general store from the 1920s-1960s, a barbershop and a post office. By the early 1960s the building, in near total disrepair, was nearly torn down to make a parking lot. Fortunately the historic store was saved before demolition began and restored by Robert Hunker. The Creative Hangars (former City Goods) is a collaborative space of local makers in Hingetown…read more(Ohio City). I remember when City Goods was just born, and I first spotted their construction from the Church & State apartment rooftop. I figured that they must be new little homes, but they were actually shops full of local goods. I didn't even know what a hangar was until seeing these futuristic looking U shaped shops. The space recently transitioned from Ohio City ownership to the ownership of the founder (Sam Friedman of Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve). It's such an interesting destination in the city. NEW CREATIVE HANGARS: The City Goods used to have seven hangars encapsulating shops and a bar. As the Creative Hangars, the shops have been condensed to a single hangar with goods from about ten makers inside. The remaining hangars are vacant. While smaller scale, the remaining hangar is full of finds and same creative spirit. If you haven't visited in a while, please know that the same level of artistry lives on. MERCHANDISE: I stopped in many times at the former City Goods. I stopped in at the new Creative Hangars concept at the beginning of October. There is so much treasure hidden inside - shirts with local flair, pottery, wooden art, tees, cards, jewelry, tea, decor, baseball caps, and skincare. The first floor is full of souvenirs and CLE-spirited merch. Clothing goes up to XL. The second floor is devoted to Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve. During my visit I purchased a skin mask and a hair mask for self-care day from Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve. If you haven't used their products or heard their story, you must. It's a high-quality, botanically based local brand. Prices are pretty reasonable across the board considering the uniqueness and talent. I also love that most merch at the hangar features the Hope Memorial Bridge guardians. I love this architecture so much and obsess over everything with the guardians of traffic. SERVICE: The employee working at the store is also a jewelry vendor. She's so lovely and welcoming. I talked to her for a long time about the hangars' transition and the makers inside this space. It was great to get the human factor behind their merchandise. I feel like these stories often get lost at local shops. By the way, I learned that new artists' merchandise is welcome into the space in case anyone who is a creator is reading this review. I'd recommend a visit to anyone looking for self-care products or unique souvenirs. If you're visiting Cleveland, stop in to take away something unique to remember your time here.
