I took a day trip to Tippecanoe so I could get some Triple XXX diner food, and girlfriend and I decided a walk would do us good before indulging. So after consulting with someone who went to college at Purdue, we settled on Clegg Botanical Gardens. Clegg is a land trust owned by a not-for-profit. There are maps near the office building (only open by appointment) about other land trusts they manage. Parking is across the street. If you have dogs, you might want to hold onto the leash as you get out of the car because one of the houses next to the parking lot has several dogs out in their back yard. Clegg's entrance has botanical gardens onto your right as soon as you enter. I'm sure it'll look great once spring is fully in bloom. Walking around the trails, you'll see some flowers and other plants are already coming up due to our unusually warm winter. There are a bit more than four miles of trails and at some point, you'll have to turn back around as some of the trails lead to private property. The trails go on for about 4ish miles and are a combination of unpaved trails and wooden trails/bridges. The trails eventually run up pretty close to Wild Creek and you'll be able to see the private residences and the public launching area where people bring their boats. This land trust is a bit out of the way, so you probably won't see a ton of college kids here. I'd highly recommend going and checking it out. If you can, throw a few bucks their way so that this land is preserved for generations to come.

I have a very energetic pup and so I do a lot of walking! I was getting tired of my usual trails, and was looking for something new. This is a lovely walk- I'm sure it will look a lot prettier when the leaves and flowers come back in the spring. It involves a lot of up and down with stairs and inclines, so you need to be a little fit to enjoy the full range of trails. My dog loved having so many things to sniff, and was tired when we got home. Parking is across the street, and wear old shoes if it's been rainy lately because it can get muddy.

You know you made the right decision to check a place out when, as soon as you step on the grounds you are overwhelmed with emotion, moved to tears and not sure why. The serenity and overall feeling of this place is amazing. Trails are well kept but still have a rugged feel. Some are more challenging than others. There are several resting platforms and observation areas sprinkled throughout that allow a person to sit, relax, reflect and take it all in. I brought my dog-dogs on leashes are allowed-and she enjoyed it as well. We will definitely return. Can't wait to see it in the fall! Note-there are no attendants, staff, etc so come prepared.

I found out about Clegg through my job, and I'm so glad they introduced me to it. If you want to get away from everything or go hiking, but don't want to travel too far, Clegg Gardens is a great option. They have a few different trails throughout the area that can take you on a stroll through the woods, or walk along Wildcat Creek. They have a lot of great little lookouts and benches, so you can sit and take it all in. It is not a very occupied place, so you could bring a book to the Gardens with you, find a bench, and be left alone for quite a while. It's a beautiful hike in the Spring, and I definitely recommend checking it out. Be careful on your first hike, they don't have very detailed map and it's not very hard to get turned around.

I thought the place looked very run down. Lots of steep steps that needed repair.

Knowing that winter is fast approaching, we wanted to make our home a little greener for a warmer feel. We were able to purchase our plants, pot, and soil all in one trip. There is a wide selection of indoor/outdoor plants and all things landscaping. The staff are more than willing to share how to care for them so that whatever you purchase will thrive. Don't worry if you don't find the right sized plant on your first visit, because they regularly restock!

That being said, they do have a really good selection of indoor and outdoor plants, succulents and herbs. I did think that for a nursery, the prices were a little on the higher end (some of their succulent prices were comparable to what I've seen in supermarkets, which kind of defeats the purpose of a nursery I think). They didn't have a great variety of pots etc. and not a lot of bonsai, from what I can recall. Staff were friendly, things were pretty easy to find and it's a fun shopping experience.

Why bother visiting if the mansion is closed, you ask. There is a cute sculpture garden behind the mansion that is open even when the mansion is closed. There are close to 30 sculptures. It is really fun to take a walk through the garden and see the statues. It will give you something to talk about and plenty of photo opportunities. If the outside is this fun, I can't wait to see the inside!

There is limited parking next to the house but plenty of street parking. We walked up to the front door and you have to ring the doorbell to get let in. We were greeted by one of the many volunteers on site. Frequently, there is a short presentation before your self-guided tour. We missed the presentation so the volunteer gave us the highlights. Mr. And Mrs. Haan, who donated the house to their museum foundation, were walking the house also!! We made our way through the mansion which is wonderfully decorated for the holidays. Upstairs, there are multiple train sets. One has buildings from England and the U.S while the other one features Lafayette buildings that have been made available around town for purchase. It took us about one hour to take in the whole house and read about the antiques and view the Indiana art. (P.S.- there is a public restroom available for use if needed on the first floor). We enjoyed this visit and look forward to coming back in the Spring to enjoy the outdoor sculpture garden.

I corresponded with Shayne Wierenga on the phone and via email to set bi-weekly services. They didn't accept electronic payments so I set up for checks to be sent automatically every two weeks from my bank. I did this trying to be a good customer and ensure that they would receive payment the week of service since checks take several business days to be sent. I have security cameras on my property so I checked in several times to make sure they were actually coming. I told them I needed my lawn cut every other week beginning the week of May 10 until the first week of August. They came like clock work until they didn't show up the week of July 19. I didn't notice that they hadn't mowed my lawn in almost a month until I came home August 3rd. Imagine my surprise when I come home to my lawn looking like a jungle (see pictures). I went back and looked at my security cameras to confirm that they did not bother to mow my lawn the week of July 19th nor have they come this week. This "company" had the nerve to cash my checks but not come mow my lawn. Unfortunately, by the time I got home both checks had already been sent and cashed. There was nothing I could do about it. I left two voicemails and emailed them with intentions of just getting my lawn mowed - not even asking for a refund. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt in case someone made a mistake on the schedule. But they didn't have the decency to get back to me. It is a common theme in their reviews that they stop showing up and disappear from the face of the earth. In addition to this, my lawn has sections with over grown weeds that could easily be taken care of with the mower. So even when they did mow my lawn they did a bad job.

They started out strong and were pre paid for the entire summer. Quite a few weeks they missed and…read moreno one returns calls. This is the most unprofessional company I've dealt with. The kids that are hired zip through the lawn without a care for anything else. They show one week, then not the next. The owner Shane obviously does not care, because after 1.5 weeks, we still have not received a return call or e-mail. I don't believe in writing bad reviews, but this is the worst and hoping someone may call after reading this.
