This adorable Little Free Library stands in front of the Layland Museum of History. It's a brown…read morebox with white trim that makes it look like an actual library. Very cute. A single door secured by a magnetic catch, there is only one shelf inside and it's quite full. Mostly hardcovers today and nothing that caught my fancy. I did add two of the paperbacks from my home as I'm working towards reducing my library there. This is charter number 8733 (a low number!) and the steward is Christy Morton. The online caption reads, "With a grant from Andrew Carnegie, local residents worked to get a library built in Cleburne. The 1905 historic building housed the public library until 1978 when the city expanded and built a new library on West Henderson Street. The Layland Museum, which was located upstairs, was expanded to the lower floor and other collections began to be added. But I also suggest you pop your head into his actual brick and mortar store on the Square in Downtown Cleburne TX. By the way the only Brick and Mortar Bookstore in Cleburne and Johnson County. The Published Page Bookshop has a wide variety of books, magazines, vinyl records, comics, adult coloring books and some other book type accessories for sale in the shop. Inside, two wide shelves that are also deep enough for many of the books to be double deep. Mostly paperbacks because those fit best. I was able to add my three from my own library that I'm working to cut back and I didn't take anything with me today. This is charter 111107 and has the title "Glenn's Little Free Library." Was used after 1854 start of Camp Henderson (named for land owner-townsite donor) for decisive public meetings. In 1867 Camp Henderson became county seat. Then men at 4th of July picnic here named town "Cleburne", for Civil War commander of many local veterans." Cleburne is the seat of Johnson County and it was formally incorporated in 1871. The city was primarily an agricultural center and county seat until the Santa Fe Railroad opened a major facility there in 1898.
