My Dad boxed upstairs in the gym in the 50s and there used to be plays on the stage. Depending on the season, you'll see all the kid sports: football, baseball, softball, track, soccer, tennis. Plus as an old school playground it has wide open space to just run (my favorite). The playground equipment is all new and was donated by a medical conference a couple of years ago as post-K largesse. The only issue with the space is that the condo owners across the street walk their dogs in the greenspace and some forget to scoop the poop. Not cool when you have kids running around. The skating rink is now a parking lot; the boxing space is offices; they've made the place a lot safer than when I was kid...how did we climb up in the rafters of the stage. There's a limit because they don't want to overpack the place. The slots are in 30 min increments. There are people to oversee the playground, but you can't just drop them off and leave the kids there. You still have to be present. You have to take your shoes off first and there's cubbies for you to place them in. Then my favorite part is actually the handwashing station. There's 2 circles and you just place your hands and arms in there until it turns on. You remove your hands once the machine stops and then you dry your hands with some paper towels after. There's a large soft play area for kids.There's also a Jungle gym structure for bigger kids. There's a family rest room, nursing room, and changing room. This place has it all and there's plenty of space for parents to sit and watch.

Why the land was never transferred from the Parish to the City is a good question. Who knows how all that works. They have a great walking path along the lake that is perfect for biking, running or walking with a stroller, as well as a few piers where you can cast a few lines and try your luck fishing. Finally there's what everyone comes here for- the views! Most of the time we just like to park the truck in the lot near the lake and just sit to people watch and enjoy the scenery. It's the perfect spot to kick back with a few drinks or some snoballs! I love the Bonnabel Boat Launch! Especially if you are there with a pet, have great caution when near the water. I say this because many people take their dogs down to the pavilion by the boat launch because that's where the hose is located. Keep your dog on a SHORT leash and beware of your surroundings. Gators like to hang there right around the corner.
