My Dad boxed upstairs in the gym in the 50s and there used to be plays on the stage. Depending on the season, you'll see all the kid sports: football, baseball, softball, track, soccer, tennis. Plus as an old school playground it has wide open space to just run (my favorite). The playground equipment is all new and was donated by a medical conference a couple of years ago as post-K largesse. The only issue with the space is that the condo owners across the street walk their dogs in the greenspace and some forget to scoop the poop. Not cool when you have kids running around. The skating rink is now a parking lot; the boxing space is offices; they've made the place a lot safer than when I was kid...how did we climb up in the rafters of the stage. But a great space to play

There's a limit because they don't want to overpack the place. The slots are in 30 min increments. There are people to oversee the playground, but you can't just drop them off and leave the kids there. You still have to be present. You have to take your shoes off first and there's cubbies for you to place them in. Then my favorite part is actually the handwashing station. There's 2 circles and you just place your hands and arms in there until it turns on. You remove your hands once the machine stops and then you dry your hands with some paper towels after. There's a large soft play area for kids. There's also a Jungle gym structure for bigger kids. There's a family rest room, nursing room, and changing room. There is a relatively small, but fully functioning dog park. We loved to visit this park when Gypsy was a pup (and only dog)! She loved running through the tunnel and jumping over the agility bars. There is a well kept play area for children. Matthew isn't quite old enough yet to utilize the equipment, but I'm sure we will begin visiting this area frequently over the next year. They have a great walking path along the lake that is perfect for biking, running or walking with a stroller, as well as a few piers where you can cast a few lines and try your luck fishing. Finally there's what everyone comes here for- the views! Most of the time we just like to park the truck in the lot near the lake and just sit to people watch and enjoy the scenery. It's the perfect spot to kick back with a few drinks or some snoballs! I love the Bonnabel Boat Launch! It's not really worth going across the river just for this park. I may have missed that…read more"something" and would love if somebody would send me a note and tell me otherwise, but there isn't anything in this area to do. I did see a couple of coffee shops on my way to this park, but other than that I don't see hordes of people coming over here to this area. I would say you are better off not coming across the river and just go to the 3rd floor of the Riverwalk Mall and let your children play in the indoor play area. There is a nice food court and bathrooms really close by. Based on the previous reviews, and google searches of "things to do with kids in NOLA" I had high expectations of this park. What I saw when I arrived was a junk yard of misfit toys and beat up playground equipment. I know I'm being very critical of a playground for kids, but this is a poor excuse of a playground. In order to get here you need to purchase a ticket for the Ferry. The ferry leaves every 30 minutes and only costs a few bucks. The ride takes about 5 minutes to get across the river. Then it's about a 15 min walk to the park. I wouldn't say the area is unsafe, but I would suggest staying on the main roads if possible. The playground located on a street corner in the middle of a neighborhood. The playground is fenced in which I thought was nice. There were lots of toys inside, some of which were broken. The toys seemed to have been dropped by locals who just didn't want them anymore. There were a few swings, and a play set with a slide. There was also a rather large mulched area where kids can just run around. I will warn you, if it has rained recently then the playground is rather muddy. Over all it was a nice time for my little one to run around outdoors, in an enclosed area. Bathrooms - These seem to be few and far between in this town. The day was saved when I found out there was a coffee shop next door called "One Stone" that had a kid friendly bathroom. There was a really nice changing table in there with spare diapers and wipes. Had it not been for this saving grace we might have left just as soon as we arrived. **Be sure to read my review of "One Stone" as its worth visiting if you come over here for the park. Would I come back? Maybe. "One Stone" was pretty cool, but there are so many closer and better things on the other side of the river that there just isn't much of a draw to come back over here.
