My regular technician, Butch, is awesome--reliable, knowledgeable, and genuinely great to work with. Over time we've developed a solid personal relationship, which says a lot about the kind of people Douglas Aquatics employs. Today really stood out. I called with a chemical issue, and within 90 minutes, Joy, the new service coordinator, and John, the service manager, personally showed up at my house. That kind of response time is almost unheard of and speaks volumes about their customer-first orientation. Joy has been absolutely wonderful since taking over my account--responsive, thoughtful, and clearly focused on making sure customers are taken care of. John is a true chemical magician. He diagnosed and fixed the issue in about 10 minutes, but what impressed me just as much was how he handled the moment. He took the time to mentor Joy during the visit, walking her through exactly what he was doing and why. At the same time, he did an excellent job explaining the issue and solution to me as the owner in clear, layman's terms, which I genuinely appreciated. Douglas Aquatics is an honest, service-driven business that invests in both its people and its customers. The hot tub is crystal clear, and I can't wait to use it tonight. Nuckols Plumbing and Gas....I 100% recommend them…read more Everyone who wants to learn how GAS issues in the home are handled today, I have a story for you. So once my parents gas leak was detected, the city turned the gas off and LOCKED the gas meter. So, now we have no hot water nor can we operate either of our heating systems in the house. So, for all the bootleg repair companies (Capitol Heating who never detected the gas leak after 6-7 times working on the one Carrier heating unit they installed in our home), you can not just go outside and turn the gas back on. There is a process now and that process includes a repair company approving their repairs before the city will come out to turn the gas back on. Nope, the techs can not just go outside fiddle with the gas meter and possibly have a customer blow themselves up and the neighborhood later. So, when I asked Capitol Heating and Cooling to leave our home because of poor service, our neighbor suggested calling Nuckols Plumbing and Gas (804-214-2077) to check our gas lines for leaks. I called and spoke with Melanie who spoke on the phone like a customer would expect a receptionist/csr should and we scheduled the service. She was soooo pleasant and informative over 2 days. I, not my dad, received text messages about the techs scheduled visit, the owners scheduled visit and a text that told me the city was heading our way. Unbelievable level of service. A tech showed up on time at 8am the next day, spoke with me and my dad, he ran the leak test with THEIR EQUIPMENT without needing the gas turned on like Capitol techs had asked my dad to call the city (I did call the city later to understand the process) and request the city to turn the gas back on. (great customer service huh? asking my dad to do it.) Nuckols tech finished his part of the job, Chris Nuckols the owner called me and explained the issues and the cost, we agreed and the repair was made. Here is the kicker, unlike the Capitol techs, Chris, the owner of Nuckols Plumbing, says to me, "once we complete the repairs, I will call the city, let them know what repairs were made and request that the gas to be turned back on." At 5pm, a city work and Chris showed up at our home and completed the process. Gas was turned on and Chrise relit one of our heating unit and the hot water heater. Again, my 87 yr old parents were completely satisfied with Nuckols Plumbing all in ONE DAY and did not have to deal with Capitol 6 to 7 times for the same issue again. So, you may say, what happened to the gas leak? Well, there were no gas leaks in our gas line so the only thing everyone could come up with is there is a gas leak within the heating system that Capitol installed and has been working on for about two to three weeks. prior. So, we had to completely disconnect that second heating system from the gas all together. Again, there has been no mention of a gas leak from Capitol techs who were in our home 6-7 times over a two to three week period where my 87 year old dad kept complaining about smelling gas. By the way, my 87 year old dad is a retired automotive technician for the city of RVA so he fully understands how things operate, what gas smells like but again, he has faith in what those companies that he has always relied on were telling him. No more. I loved what the neighbor Mary said, "we may have only one time to get a gas leak corrected properly. It is not something you guess at." We had a water main break on a Saturday while out of town. A relative was able to shut off the water to the house until we were able to get home. Long story short, DH found USA Pipe Repair, a small family owned business, who was able to deliver a quote, get Miss Utility to come out and locate the underground lines, obtain the needed permit from the County and drill a new water pipe without tearing (trenches pipe repair!) up my yard and restore water service to my house all in the same day! The entire drilling process and reconnection of water took less than 2 hours! Amazing! We are delighted with their work and with commitment to restoring our water service as quickly as possible and without tearing up my yard and driveway to do it! They worked us into an already busy day to help us. You just do not get that kind of commitment from many companies.

However, a series of issues with the rest of the project led to six necessary visits. The first issue was that they showed up in my backyard without introducing themselves or notifying me that they had arrived to complete the work. Overall, there is a lack of integrity in their approach, prioritizing a quick finish over the quality of the job. The project became a prolonged and stressful ordeal, leading to unnecessary inconvenience and difficulty, and disrespect, which negatively impacted the overall quality and timeline of the project. Loosened sand and debris from the patio are expected; however, an excessive amount of sand left covering a large portion of the newly cleaned home, an overly large amount of sand in the pool and its surrounding areas each time, left me with several hours of cleaning, which was unexpected and demonstrated subpar service, and a lack of professionalism. It negated the purpose of hiring a professional. The amount paid did not align with the level of professionalism and quality we expected and received, serving as a cautionary tale for potential customers. I could not confidently recommend this company for anything but painting.

The manager at Lewis took the time to listen to the problem and tell me he thought it was possible a different pump might not solve it. Almost two months later, a contractor about to swap out the pumps explained what WAS likely causing the problem. Nervy me took the pump back. And Lewis Supply gave me a refund--no complaints, no problem! But then, while we were chatting, I learned that the same pump I'd just returned would have solved a SECOND problem the mason had caused. So after a week of Doh-ing about it, I came back and re-bought the same freaking sump pump. Again, the guys at Lewis Supply asked questions (they knew their audience, by now) and realized I needed an additional brass fitting I would have otherwise left without. Lewis Supply saved me time, money, and much aggravation, and the three gentlemen who waited on me there were all equally patient, pleasant, and helpful. P.S. The new pump was installed yesterday--solving problem two during the install--and immediately started doing its thing, performing like a champ where the old pump had just been sitting there. So MAYbe problem one IS solved by the pump swap alone. Time will tell.
