Most of them suggested solutions that seemed to be wasted money, everything from blasting through the basement floor to create new drains, to replacing vapor barriers and sealing up the basement and crawl space, etc. Nick at Drain Designs Charlotte suggested instead a set of new drains to take downspout and runoff water away from the house to a back culvert. Made sense. Job completed a couple of weeks ago. After, we had a few light rains so the ground had some moisture a then a 2" steady rain - instead of water seeping in from all sides of the basement, there was a small trickle at one side. Then next day, around the corner with the trickel, I banked dirt against the house to slope away from the house towards the new drains Nick's team had installed. Next day we had a solid 1" of rain - a few drops entered at that corner. It's not perfect, but for an 85-year-old house, we're pretty darn pleased. We recommend Nick and Drain Designs.

Their explanation for the increase did not align with standard industry practice and should have been accounted for before the bid was given.A contractor should honor the price they put in writing. Raising the cost after taking a deposit is not acceptable business practice, and I would advise others to proceed with caution. We are currently attempting to have our $1700 deposit refunded.
