First Class Painting & Restoration - Exterior painting project completed in Johns Island, SC.

    First Class Painting & Restoration

We have received many compliment's from neighbors and friends. We highly recommend them. Cynthia & Roger Lucier White Gables 843-478-7852 They came to our home very promptly to assess the job and provide a quote. The job was completed within the timeframe agreed upon. Beautiful Cabinets. The painting staff were professional throughout their painting. There were no spills to clean up. The job was completed as they advised us. We had other companies provide quotes and just found First Class to be the most experienced and professional.

We've never hired a painting contractor before. I'm an excellent painter and have always handled…read morethe interior paint jobs needing to be done. However, we have a huge den with a 12-foot ceiling, and it was more than I wanted to tackle or even had the time to do so. I knew there was quite a bit of wall and ceiling repair needing to be done, too, prior to painting. So, this time around, I decided to hire professionals to do the job. Our flooring guy recommended 1st Class Painting and Restoration, assuring us they'd do a great job. After getting a few quotes, we opted to go with them. As a couple who hates to deal with contractors and therefore does most of the home improvement jobs ourselves, I can only say I wish all contractors were as easy to work with as 1st Class. It was a smooth process from start to finish. Getting someone out here to give us a quote was done quickly. Getting us on the schedule that was conducive to our timeline was also super easy. We were told the painters would arrive between 8:30-9:30 a.m. each day, but they were here no later than 8:15 a.m. Early arrival is something that never happens with contractors! The crew worked nonstop (except for their lunch break) for the two days it took them to repair the damaged areas, sand and then paint the ceiling, walls and trim. I'm still amazed that they got it done so quickly! It'd have taken me at least a solid month of working every Saturday and Sunday from dawn to dusk to do the same job. The room looks awesome! I love the paint color that I chose, and they did a great job applying it to the walls. The ceiling, the crown molding, the baseboards, and the other trim all look brand new, too. I can't recommend this company highly enough.

Southern Roots Tree Service - The tree prior to being cut down.

Two other contractors came out and never even gave me a bid the trees were so large, they didn't want to do it. But Southern Roots wasn't afraid. They showed up on time, cut the 70 foot dead tree down without hitting either my fence or my shed. They were polite, cleaned up all of the mess, and was it ever fun to watch. If you need trees cut, this is the business to use, you won't regret it.

I would categorize my experience with this business as mostly positive with a few frustrating issues. The owner is exceptionally knowledgeable when it comes to trees, academic actually. And far superior to the other companies I interviewed. I would say this was the most prominent reason I hired him. I found his crew to be extremely professional and very efficient. They all knew the order of business for the day and what the responsibilities/expectations were of each team member, even when the boss wasn't there. They worked hard and did not waste time. I would also like to add they were respectful of my property and cognizant of not damaging it with the equipment. The areas I believe need improvement are related to communication and follow-up/-through. My service was split into 2 parts and were conducted on separate days, tree removal and stump grinding, respectively due to utilities marking. Zero issues with the first day The second visit was delayed, however, and that wasn't communicated to me until the crew didn't show up. It was explained to me only when I called them after they were already several hours late. They did show up promptly the second time. The second day did run late because they had to start late which wasn't an issue for me, but it did contribute to the second issue. By the time the stump grinding was finished, the batteries on the blower were dead and the street and driveways were not able to be cleaned up. It was quite messy and bad enough that I would have gotten a ticket from my HOA. I was assured before they left that they would swing by first thing in the morning to blow them clean. I had to call 2 more times to get someone out to do it and then they still left the driveways a mess. I had to go out and sweep my driveway myself, which is an issue because my capabilities are limited. Lastly, my contract included following-up service to remove a treatment wrap on my tree six months later. It never happened. I had to go out and do it myself. Would I hire Southern Roots again? Yes, but with some caveats. I would probably interview some competitive companies first to see what they had to offer. I would also expect to have to deal with the above issues and know I would have to stay on them to follow-through. I would consider the issues I dealt with as minor and irritating, rather than a show-stopper.
